Strictly Come Dancing 12 – Who’s Going To Win?

The mighty mighty Monk Seal

Now normally around this time I’d write an entry in the style of a fake bookmakers, offering odds on all of the professionals and their chances of emerging from this series with the glitterball in their hands, held aloft by a sea of their fellow dancers, as the winning celebrity looks a bit baffled at the side and maybe light up a fag. But at the end of last series I declared this year, as well as the Year Of The Man (lol) to be the Year That Monkseal Gives Up Predicting Anything In The Wake Of Abbey Clancy Somehow Making The British Publish Like Her. Less snappy, but I intend to stick to it regardless. Of course that doesn’t mean you should be deprived of the opportunity. So between now and the time the partnerships inevitably leak out following filming of the Launch Show, this poll will remain open…

Smooth Sunday – A Sequin Filled Heavenly Dance Which Will Lift You Off Your Feet

It’s Sunday, and time to chill out, relax and spend time with the family. For us, no dance sums up this chilled out feeling better than an American Smooth and for today’s dance we’re taking you all the way back to 2007, when Kelly Brook performed this stunning American Smooth with Brendan Cole.

At the time Brendan was the Bad Boy of Strictly and there was some controversy when Bruno awarded the couple a 10 for including three lifts (rather than the two allowed at the time.) We agree with Bruno and felt this dance was stunning and truly deserved the score it was given.

We loved this dance for several reasons:
1) Kelly’s sequinned dress was amazing and left us with serious dress envy! (Note to my husband – *flutters eyelashes* I want a sequinned ball gown like that!)
2) Brendan’s choreography perfectly suited the routine and the performance oozed old-school Hollywood Glamour
3) The music from the band (as ever) was just perfect
4) The dancing was smooth, elegant and glamourous.

From us, the performance deserved a 10! We loved it and hope you will too. Here are Kelly and Brendan with their American Smooth:

We hope you enjoyed watching that routine and would love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Strictly Support Group – A Recap

When we found out the final line-up of celebrities for Strictly Come Dancing 2014, on Friday’s One Show, it’d be an understatement to say we got extremely excited. In honour of the announcement, last night we had a little chat to predict who you think each of the celebrities will be paired with and what their best dances will be.

We started by asking you which professional dancers you’d like to see our celebrities paired with. Here are some of our favourite answers:

We have to agree, we love your pairing suggestions already and think all these mentioned above would make great partnerships. We cannot wait to see who’s paired with whom next weekend.

For the next part of the chat, we asked which dance you think will be our celebrities’ strongest dance. Once again you surpassed yourselves with some amazing answers. Here are our personal favourites:

And with that we ended our (short but sweet) chat. We’re hosting a poll over the next few months to decide who you think will win Strictly 2014. Just vote for the person you think most likely to win Strictly 2014. We’ll keep this poll running throughout the series, it’s just for a little bit of fun, so you can keep voting for your favourite!

Thank you to all those who took part in last night’s chat. If you didn’t get the chance to take part in our chat last night, don’t panic! You can still tweet your suggestions to @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Strictly 2014 – Q&A with 2 of our favourite professionals Karen (@karen_hauer) & Kevin (@keviclifton)

Over the last week we let you ask some of our favourite Strictly people questions about the magical show just for our blog. Earlier today, we chose this dance as your daily strictly fix (sends a box of tissues in advance as this routine is so beautiful it will move you to tears!)

It seemed appropriate, after watching this dance, to publish this Q&A. Today it’s the turn of two of our favourite professionals, the lovely Karen Hauer and Kevin Clifton. We know they are super super busy with rehearsals, so they took a few moments out of their energetic schedule to answer some questions chosen by you.

So, Karen and Kevin, we love watching you dance on Strictly. For you what has been the best moment of being on the show?
Karen For me, the best moment on Strictly would be when I danced wearing a head full of fruit with Hairy Bikers Dave Myers to Cuban Pete. Funniest moment ever for me. Love watching that routine.
We loved watching it too so had to share it on here, again!

Kevin Dancing the Paso Doble with Susanna at Blackpool and as it finished the crowd erupted. The noise was massive. Pretty emotional moment at the home of dancing.
It was emotional and world record-breaking. Another of our favourite dances, so we have to share on here too!

If you weren’t professional dancers, what would you have chosen as your career path?
Karen Either a veterinarian, an archeologist or a ninja haha!! πŸ˜‚

IMG_2536.JPG
Kevin A WWE Wrestler! We love watching Kevin dance, but think being a WWE wrestler would be awesome!

Where has been the most wonderful place where you’ve ever performed and why?
Karen and Kevin For both of us it was performing on Broadway with Burn The Floor. Every performer’s dream is to be on a Broadway stage. After years of hard work, blood and tears we can now say that we have danced on Broadway stage.

If you could choose any celebrity to be your partner on Strictly who would you choose?
Karen I would mix the upper body of David Beckman and Alan Carr’s dancing legs hehe πŸ˜‚
Kevin BeyoncΓ© because she is fierce and commits to everything she does. She’s the best female performer in the world.

We’ve seen you performing on TV, on tours together and in group routines. Do you prefer choreographing and dancing duets or group numbers? How does performing on Strictly compare to performing in theatres or on tour?
Karen and Kevin We love choreographing both duets and group numbers. It’s always exciting to work with lots of dancers using their different skills and energy but we also like the intimacy of just two dancers connecting to one another.
Both Strictly and theatre performances are exhilarating and you have to be in the moment. You can’t hesitate and have to be in full control for both. They both test your abilities as a performer. Both teach you to constantly learn and appreciate your art.

And finally, when’s the big day? πŸ‘°πŸŽ©πŸ‘—πŸ‘«πŸ’ƒ
Karen and Kevin Wedding bells ringing for next year (if we both have time to plan it!!)

Thank you to Karen and Kevin for taking part in our Q&A. We’ll be watching and supporting you both this series and cannot wait to see Strictly 2014. Hope you both have a successful show and may all your glitterball dreams all come true!

Thank you to all of you followers for your questions too! We hope you enjoyed reading this Q&A

We’ve gone a little Loom Loopy!

Unless you’ve been on another planet for the last 6 months, you’ve probably been introduced to Loom Bands by friends and family.

Earlier this morning, my strictly (and unicorn) obsessed four year old created some Strictlified Loom Band creations with the help of her friend, our loom band obsessed 10 year old neighbour.

So far, they’ve created a Loom Band Paso Susanna (we ran out of red bands to make Loom Band Kevin) and a Loom Band Princess Elsa from Frozen (who we think looks slightly like Deborah Meaden in her Quickstep Dress!)

IMG_2543.JPG

We showed Susanna her loom band incarnation earlier and we think she liked it….

Deborah Meaden was also very flattered:

I think they look fabulous and have the perfect frame. They’re a great way to keep your little monsters occupied before Strictly starts next week.

Have you or any of your little ones made any strictlyfied loom band creations? Tweet your pics to @scd_support. We’d love to see them.

If you want to see how they’re made, here’s a very easy to follow tutorial from youtube. (Video credit to DIY mommy!)

Strictly 2014 – Day 14 of Rehearsals in the warm and fuzzy world of Strictly Come Dancing!

Today saw the second day our celebrities danced with our professionals and we were treated to lots of exciting pictures, tweets and reaction throughout the day. Here are some of our favourite tweets:

(we’re hoping he’ll take his Cuban heels along and will show off some of his dance moves in Ibiza!)

We learnt that our pros do relax (from time to time!)

(starts singing along to “America” and doing Flamenco moves!)

We can reveal that today was selfie-ish and one of our pros took quite a few selfies throughout the day. We love it!

We also had some lovely tweets from our celebrities showing the hard work they’re doing. We want to send them all a lovely hug, especially these three:

If we didn’t know it already, we then saw how lovely, encouraging and supportive our professional dancers are. It reminded us how warm, fuzzy and lovely the world of Strictly Come Dancing is. It’s just like a hug in a mug!

This, as well as hearing the theme song on the One Show has got us super super excited for next weekend. We may even don a sequin jumper just for the occasion.

That ends today’s news round up. We’ll be back tomorrow for our Strictly Support Group from 8pm. We hope you can join us then.

Strictly 2014 – The Final 3 are revealed in a glittery haze!

We rarely believe what we read in the papers, so tonight, despite the celebrities being revealed yesterday, we had our eyes glued on the Glitterball-clad One Show to find out the final 3 celebrities to take to the floor on this year’s series. After seeing the interview with him, we were slightly disappointed that Liam Neeson won’t be foxtrotting it across the dancefloor.

The celebrities were revealed as Gregg Wallace (we’re waiting for his catchphrase every week to be “Dancing doesn’t get much tougher than this!”) Tim Wonnacott (watch out for auction puns!) and Jennifer Gibney (from Mrs Browns’ Boys!) We are super excited to see our celebrities take to the floor and cannot wait for the launch show next week to see who they’re paired with.

So here is our line-up below (picture thanks to @cfc_Craig on twitter!)

Earlier this evening we also asked who you thought would be the dark horse of the competition. Here are some of our favourite answers:

We have to admit they are all looking fabulous and feel that this year will definitely be a year for the ladies, with lots of good looking men appearing on the show (including Pasha!) It now starts the last of our polls. We’re going to run this one right through until December. We’d like to know, who you think will lift the Glitterball trophy this year. Simply vote in the poll below to decide your winner:

This poll is just for fun!

Foxtrot Friday – A Dance You’ll Fall in love with

Earlier today we brought you the 2nd of our Q&As from the lovely Lisa Riley, so when choosing today’s dance, it only seemed right to pick her lovely Foxtrot with Robin Windsor.

For us, this dance (like all their dances) showed their friendship perfectly. The photobooth at the top of the routine reminded us of Saturday afternoons as teenagers taking embarrassing but funny pictures with friends. Robin’s choreography suited them down to a tee and they both performed it brilliantly.

The music and costumes were fantastic and we loved the dance overall. It’s the sort of dance which can make even the grumpiest person smile, so if you know someone in a bad mood today, show them this! We guarantee it’ll turn their frowns upside down and they’ll genuinely fall in love with it! Here are Lisa and Robin with their lovely, friendly Foxtrot:

We hope you enjoyed watching that dance. Tweet us what you thought of it @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Strictly 2014 – The 2nd of our Q&As with the lovely @reallisariley

2 years ago, Lisa Riley made lots of us fall in love with dance watching her perform on Strictly. Her love of all things dance and her friendship with Robin took her all the way to the Semi-Finals and has inspired many of us to take up dance. You saw her Foxtrot as our dance of the day earlier and as we know, Lisa is a superfan of the show. We couldn’t think of anyone better to do a Q&A than her. We invited her and here are her answers to your amazing questions!

We know you are a huge huge fan of the show. What’s been the best part of being involved in the show for you?
The best part of being in the show was meeting my best mate Robin Windsor, not only did he teach me to dance but he kept me strong and happy every single day we were in the practice room together. Now we are friends for life. Also one of the best things is how many people i have inspired to dance, through my positive outlook on life the motto is “if i can do it anyone can” and that’s the truth.

IMG_2526.JPG

We have to agree, Lisa! You have inspired lots of us to take up dancing. πŸ™‚ At the end of the show we’re always urged to “keep dancing” but have you “kept up dancing?”
Yes i have totally kept up the dancing. I have danced at loads of charity events throughout the year and corporate events. Also this year I have been extremely lucky to be involved with “Strictly P&O Cruises” where I was working with Craig Revel Horwood, Robin and Kristina and Ian and Natalie. We have such fun and can’t wait to go on board again next year and do it all again!!! Me and Robin performed our Cha Cha and our Foxtrot on board. (sounds fab-u-lous! We wanna go next year!)

From watching you on Strictly and at the Strictly Live Tour, it was clear to see you loved learning to dance. What did you enjoy most about learning to dance? What did you find most challenging?
What I loved the most was just learning every aspect of dance. I was like a sponge soaking up all the information and still wanting to learn more. What i found most challenging was my concentration because me and Robin would have such a giggle in the practice room, time would just fly by when we should have been doing more work…but everyone loved me and Robin for that! Another challenging aspect was my posture because I have big boobs they always got in the way when i was doing ballroom.

If you were invited back onto the show to dance again. Which dance would you perform and why?
If I could dance again on the dancefloor I would really want to do a Jive. When I performed it on the show it was week three and since then I have learnt so much more about the kicks and flicks. When I performed last summer in “Strictly Confidential” with Artem I did a big Jive section and feel really confident with that now.

We all have dream celebrities we’d like to see appearing on Strictly. If you could see any celebrity appear on Strictly who would you like to see appear and why?
The one celebrity I would really love more than anything to appear on Strictly would be Sharon Osbourne. I think she is wonderful and I know she would be brilliant. I would like her to be paired with Robin because they would have a ball together and lots of camp fun!!! Let’s try and get Sharon on together. We’d love to see this. She’d be fab-u-lous and her and Robin would make a formidable partnership. Strictly producers, if you’re reading this, take note for next year!

Finally, what advice would you give to anyone of our celebrities appearing on the show this year?
The advice I would give anyone would be throw yourself into it, enjoy every single minute and the more you as a person enjoy it the more the audience will. That’s what I did and it seemed to work!!! and I am total proof that if I can do it anyone can!!! We love this answer and it’s so true. It reminds us of this little quote

IMG_2527.JPG

Thank you to Lisa for agreeing to take part in our Q&A. We hope you all at home enjoyed reading this and have a fantastic day.
