Jake Wood proved once more that he might be the one to beat in Strictly Come Dancing after wowing the judges with a stunning salsa.

While week two of the competition might seem a bit early for standing ovations, the EastEnders star received an overwhelming response for his dance to Lou Bega’s Mambo No. 5.

The audience certainly loved it, but even more surprising was the response from the judges.

Craig Revel Horwood is not normally forthcoming with praise, but after labelling Jake a ‘dark horse’ last week tonight he gave the actor an impressive eight.

Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli all gave Jake nines – enough to top the leaderboard.

While he hasn’t guaranteed safety just yet, we think somehow he’ll survive to dance another day…
