Strictly Support Group – A Blunders Day Chat!

If you are accident prone, today you’ll have had the excuse to be a little bit clumsy, for it was Blunders Day. To get ourselves in the mood, we tripped over our dog (please note – no dogs were harmed in the writing of this post) and decided to have a Strictly Support Group Chat dedicated to those “it’ll be alright on the night moments!”

We started off our chat by asking you this: Live TV is unpredictable and on Strictly anything can happen. Of all those moments where it’s not gone to plan, which have been your favourite moments and why? We had some fantastic suggestions from you. Here are our favourites:

Once again, you gave some great answers. We then moved on to ask you, if you could watch one dance that went all Pete Tong again, which dance would you choose and why?

https://twitter.com/khoneykh/status/561628692817117185

For our next question, we realised there were lots of It’ll be alright on the night moments on Strictly! We wanted to know if you were to make an It’ll be alright on the night special, which moments would feature on the show. Once again, you gave some a-may-zing answers. Here are some of our favourites:

For our final question, we asked you if you could give an award for the best hidden or most unfortunate mistake to have occurred on Strictly, who would you award it to? We really made you think with this question and once again you gave some superb answers. Here are our favourites:

And that ended tonight’s chat. Thank you to all of you who took part. We hope you enjoyed it. If you didn’t take part, don’t worry! You can still let us know your suggestions and answers by commenting below or tweeting @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you.

Samba Saturday – *Sings* This is the way (ahaha) we like it (the Samba!)

*shimmies* Watching today’s Samba Saturday, we feel like we’re having a party and we haven’t even blown up any balloons. Today we’re watching a dance which was full of the carnival atmosphere and had so much energy we just wanted to join in at home. We’re watching Team Markarena (Mark Wright and Karen Hauer) show us that the only way to Samba.

We loved this dance for several reasons:
1) It was a turning point for Mark where he came out and gave it everything, showing he was a contender. Coming back after being in the Dance-Off the week before and performing like this takes guts and determination!
2) Karen’s costume was so bright, colourful and full of fringing, we felt we were watching the Rio Carnival.
3) The choreography – It had enough traditional Samba for Len, but also some great crowd-pleasing disco bits, and also who could resist Mark’s hips, he gave Snakey Jakey a run for his money! 😍
4) Craig’s lack of expression when Mark was girating on the Judge’s desk, we think he wasn’t watching the same dance as us, or Darcey!

We loved this dance and hope you will too. Here are Mark and Karen showing us the (w)right way to do a Samba:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. Was that the way (ahaha) you liked it (ahahaha?) Let us know what you thought by commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you. We’re off to shimmy around town and do some (boring i.e. food) shopping. We’ll be here from 7.30pm tonight for our #strictlysupportgroup chat. We hope you can join us then!

Foxtrot Friday – A Dreamy Dance To Take Your Breath Away!

For today’s Foxtrot Friday, we’re off back to 2009 to watch a beautiful Foxtrot which will take your breath away.

Today we’re watching Series 7 semi-finalist, Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna performing a beautiful dance. It was everything you could wish for in a Foxtrot; it was elegant, floaty, smooth, suave, sophisticated and full of Hollywood glamour.

We loved this dance and hope you will too. Here are Ali and Brian with their gorgeous Foxtrot:

We hope you enjoyed watching that dance and would love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet @scd_support, or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Zalza Fitness – An exercise DVD that’ll put a spring in your step!

We’re not a fan of exercise DVD torture, but from watching Strictly Come Dancing and seeing our celebrities tone-up and lose the pounds over the weeks, we know that dancing is as good a form of exercise as any to get you in great shape. Not only is is great exercise, but it’s also a lot of fun!

When we heard that The Grant (AKA Russell Grant) and the lovely Flavia Cacace-Mistry had created a fitness programme, we couldn’t resist trying it! It’s called Zalza and we were drawn in by the name itself. It sounded exciting, enticing and energising, even before we’d put the DVD in the DVD player!

The DVD takes you through a warm-up, Rumba, Cha Cha, Salsa, Jive, Merengue, Samba and most importantly a cool down and stretch. There is also a second DVD with nutrition tips and fun clips from Vincent and Flavia’s Midnight Tango. If you are a fan of Strictly, we’re pretty sure you’ll enjoy this DVD.

The instructions are easy to follow and, before you know it, you’ll be doing Rumba and Cha Cha walks around the house (Warning: you may get funny looks from family members doing this) and will be walking with a spring in your step. For us what made it so accessible is seeing Russell’s enthusiasm which will fill you with joy. Learning to dance is all about having fun, and not just taking steps, and this man embodies this motto perfectly. Also, having recently had a baby and not wanting to over-exert ourselves, the way that you can learn each of the dance steps, step-by-step, and don’t have to coordinate arms and legs or do more difficult steps in one go. You can take part in the exercises at your own pace, which is great, if like me, you struggle with picking up steps at dance class!

The second DVD with nutrition tips and behind the scenes Midnight Tango footage made great chillout viewing too.

We’d highly recommend this DVD for anyone wanting to get fit and have fun at the same time. The DVD didn’t disappoint! If you’re not the quickest at picking up steps (like me) and want to learn some of the basic Latin American Dance steps in your own time, this DVD is for you. It’ll make you smile, fill you with joy and leave you feeling fit and good about yourself.

The DVD is great value and costs just £8 from Amazon. We think it’s well worth it. Here’s a link so you can find out more, Zalza Fitness DVD on Amazon If you’ve tried this DVD we’d love to hear what you thought of it. Let us know by commenting below or tweeting us @scd_support, we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Throwback Thursday – A (Quick)Step Back In Time

We love watching Strictly and reminiscing about some of our favourite moments. Today’s Throwback Thursday is no exception. We’re going all the way back to 2006 (when some of our youngest fans weren’t even born!)

We admit to being closet Spice Girls fans, so when Emma Bunton appeared in series 4, we were huge supporters of her and Darren Bennett, who made it all the way to the semi-final.

Our dance today is their first competitive dance together, the Quickstep, where they topped the leaderboard and made a great first impression scoring a magnificent 33/40.

This dance was not only fast, but elegant, rhythmical and technically very good. We loved the Hollywood Glamour feel of the routine and hope you will too. Here are Emma and Darren with their fab-u-lous and fast Quickstep:

We hope you enjoyed watching that dance and would love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet @scd_support, or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Wednesday Warm-Up – We’re Pretty Sure This Dance Counts As One Of Your Five-A-Day

We know all too well that as January comes to an end, keeping those New Year’s Resolutions is getting tougher and tougher. Here at the Strictly Support Group, we love helping you out, so today’s “fruity dance” will not only make you smile, but will also count as one of your five a day, well virtually anyway *inserts fruit emojis 🍎🍏🍊🍋🍒🍇🍉🍓🍑🍈🍌🍐🍍*

Today we’re watching James Jordan and Denise Van Outen’s wonderfully fruity Jive! It was fast, fun and fab-u-lous. We loved the 50s feel to this routine and had serious dress envy of Denise’s outfit. We loved the music and choreography and it’s the sort of tune to make you want to get up and dance. The whole performance was a moment of Strictly Magic and set Denise as a true contender in Strictly 2012.

We hope you enjoy watching this dance and would love to hear what you thought of it. Let us know once you’ve watched the dance. You can either tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you:

Have a wonderful Wednesday and we hope this dance made you smile. Now, we feel all inspired to eat healthily again. *wanders off to eat some celery, carrot sticks and fruit.*

Smooth Sunday – We’re feeling good just watching this dance!

It’s Sunday which means 3 things:
1) We get a well-deserved lay-in which makes us feel good.
2) We have a chance to spend time with our loved ones, which also makes us feel good.
and
3) It’s time for us to show you another American Smooth which’ll make you feel good, guaranteed!

Today we’re watching Jake and Janette’s wonderful feel-good dance performed at the Blackpool Ballroom. It was a dance where everything seemed to fit into place to make a perfect performance.

We loved Janette’s dress (it gave us serious dress envy,) the music (we love a spot of Michael Buble, especially when it’s on Strictly), the mood and atmosphere as well as the choreography. It was an edgy American Smooth which was full of style. The split lift and throw had us on the edge of our seats, it added drama and style to the whole routine and in our opinion the whole routine deserved 4 10’s!

This dance made us feel good all over and we hope it does the same to you too. Here are Jake and Janette with their wonderful American Smooth:

We’d love to hear what you thought of this dance. Tweet @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Strictly Support Group Chat – We’re ROTFL with this chat!

Today was Belly Laugh Day and, as you know, here at the Strictly Support Group we love to make you smile, so we themed our chat around this special day by talking about the moments that make us LOL the most. We think this little guy enjoyed our chat and we loved your suggestions and comments too:

2015/01/img_3861.jpg

We began by asking of all the moments on Strictly that have made you smile, which ones have made you laugh out loud (LOL) the most? Here are some of our favourite answers, in picture form:

We’d love to hear the moments that made you laugh out loud. Comment below or tweet @scd_support to let us know.

For our next question, we looked at our judges. They all have made comments that make us smile and laugh, but we asked you whose comments have made you LOL the most. Here are our favourite answers:

We then asked of all our hosts, pros and celebs to have appeared on the show, who’s made you laugh the most? Once again, you gave some a-may-zing answers. Here are some of our favourites:

We agree with your comments about funniest pros. Having not seen too much of Tristan this year, we’d love to see more of his sense of humour this year on Strictly.

That ended tonight’s chat. Don’t worry if you didn’t get the chance to take part, you can join in by tweeting us @scd_support or commenting below. Do you have a funny strictly memory or anyone on strictly who’s a born comedian? We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Samba Saturday – It’s Party Time Thanks To One Of Our Favourite Saturdays!

Saturday is a chance for us to let our hair down, shimmy and dress up in as sparkly an outfit as possible, because it’s the weekend! We’re wearing sparkly slippers and a jumper in honour of the occasion. It’s got us in the party mood, as has today’s Samba Saturday fix.

Today’s dance is brought to you by one of The Saturdays, Frankie, and the wonderful Kevin Clifton (who appeared to get the short straw with this shirt…

2015/01/img_3859.jpg.

When we first watched this dance, we felt they captured the party atmosphere perfectly, and although Frankie made some mistakes, we didn’t notice them. When they perfected it in the final it was great to see the routine get the scores it deserved. It was a dance that had us shimmying along at home. It had my four year old offering to colour in Kevin’s shirt. The whole dance made us smile it was so much fun! Even Derek the Donkey looked like he enjoyed himself.

We loved this dance and we hope you will love it too. Here are Frankie and Kevin with their fun-filled, fab-u-lous Samba. We hope you enjoy it and have a great Saturday:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that Samba in La Bamba. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Foxtrot Friday – A dance as sweet as apple pie!

Today happens to be Pie Day! We have a feeling if Strictly were a pie, it’d be super sweet and glittery, just like this glitter mud pie:

2015/01/img_3844.gif

Now this link’s a little tenuous, but the foxtrot reminds us of a sweet apple pie with it’s smooth and sweet nature, and today we’re celebrating Pie Day by watching a Foxtrot which gave us the sweetest feeling ever! It’s Michael Vaughan and Natalie Lowe’s gorgeous Foxtrot. Not only did they look the part (Natalie’s dress was stunning) but they floated across the floor more smoothly than whipped cream and the music, concept and choreography were as sweet as apple pie (which is a good thing because we have a very sweet tooth!)

We loved this dance and hope you will too. Here are Michael and Natalie with their elegant, sweet foxtrot:

We hope you enjoyed watching that dance. Let us know what you think of it. You can either tweet @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.
