Strictly Support Group – Tables have been turned on our Fearsome Foursome (The Judges!)

Tonight we dedicated to the four people who compliment and put fear in our couples week after week.

Yes, we dedicated our Strictly Support Group to our Fab Four, The Strictly Judges. They not only help guide us with our votes, but also entertain us week after week, so truly deserved a chat dedicated to the great work they do.

We started the chat by asking you who is your favourite current judge and why? We had some fantastic answers from you all. Here are some of our favourites:

We then moved on to ask you, of all the judges to have appeared on Strictly, who is your favourite former judge and why? Once again, you gave some wonderful answers. You all deserve 10s in our opinion. Here are our favourite answers:

For our 3rd question we asked you to look at our guest judges, There have been lots of guest judges to have appeared on Strictly. Who has been your favourite and why?

The judges’ comments are as famous as they are themselves. For our next question, we asked what your favourite of our judges catchphrases is and why? You gave some truly fab-u-lous answers. Here are our favourites:

The strictly judges have also given us some truly memorable moments, from Darcey’s twerking to Bruno falling off his chair. We asked you to list your favourite of our judges moments. You gave some truly awesome answers. Here are our favourites:

It’d seem lots of you loved seeing Bruno fall off his chair (although we’d hope he didn’t hurt himself.) Here it is for you all again:

For our final question, we looked at the future of the judging panel on Strictly. The Strictly Tour this year and The People’s Strictly are going to show us that our judging panel can change. If any of the judges were to leave Strictly Come Dancing, who would you like to see replace them? Here are some of your answers:

That ended tonight’s chat. To quote Mr Revel-Horwood himself, we must say you lot were truly fab-u-lous. We even think if Craig were judging us, he’d have given you a smile and one of these, yes they really do exist:

If you didn’t get the chance to take part in our chat, don’t worry, you still can by commenting below or tweeting @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you.

Tell a Fairytale Day – Your Prince Charming and Princess of the Ballroom

Yesterday was Tell A Fairytale Day and in true Strictly Support Group style, we spent the day dreaming of the magical world of Strictly, remembering some of our all-time favourite routines, where our professional and celebrity dancers truly looked like Princes and Princesses.

ο»Ώο»Ώ*daydreams thinking of these routines*

We asked you lovely bunch who your prince and princess of the strictly ballroom were. We had some wonderful and fab-u-lous answers from you all. Here are our favourites:

Who are your prince charming and princess of Strictly? We’d also like to hear your Strictly Fairytales. Let us know, either by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you!

The People’s Strictly – Show 1 Recap. Warning: You may need tissues! 😒

There is normally a glittery hole in our TV schedules lasting around nine months, from just after Christmas until September, so as soon as we heard The People’s Strictly was going to be on our screens and filling a whole 4 weeks of this glittery hole, we did everything humanly possible to ensure we didn’t miss it!

Last night, we all sat down with our Strictly Snacks to watch this inspirational and wonderful programme. We instantly regretted not buying tissues while we did the Supermarket Shimmy, but have put these on our list for next week. Not even 10 minutes into the show and this happened:

We met the first 3 of our everyday heroes as they found out they were going to be on the show and took their very first steps.

We met the lovely and truly inspirational Heather Parsons, who has dedicated her life to making sure that families of those in intensive care are looked after. We also met the heroic Cassidy Little, who as an ex-Royal Marine, is a true hero in his own right. We also met the wonderful Michael Pattie who himself has proven that Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but about learning to dance in the rain, having become the most active and succesful fundraiser for Meningitis Research Foundation in Scotland.

Heather and Ian – Team Heatherwaite

Michael and Aliona – Team Alipattie
Natalie and Cassidy – Team Natalie Cassidy

ο»Ώο»ΏWe heard their background stories, which truly moved us to tears (and made us regret not having a sparkly tissue box.) We also saw them being truly surprised and learning they were going to be on The People’s Strictly. Heather was surprised with a Supermarket Shimmy from Joanne Clifton, Russell Grant and lots of fantastic dancers. We like to think this is what shopping trips are like on Planet Strictly.  We saw Cassidy being surprised by the Royal Marines Band, Brendan Cole, Kimberley Walsh and lots of dancers in Portsmouth, and we saw Michael being surprised by the lovely Alison Hammond and Anton Du Beke, in operation Secret Santa at a Christmas lights switch on.

We also saw our couples meet their professional partners and take their first steps in the ballroom. Heather went to Vienna to learn the Viennese Waltz (and met a Kevin from Grimsby look-a-like.) Cassidy went to Madrid to the Spanish National Ballet to learn the Paso Doble (and lots of cape wafting) and Michael got to go to Eastbourne to learn how to tango from the masters of tango, Vincent and Flavia. They all looked naturals in the ballroom, and it goes to show that us fans know just what dances look like. For us, they are all truly winners in their own right and it’s going to be extremely hard to choose the overall winner.

We feel this quote sums up the spirit of the show perfectly:

We asked you wonderful people what you thought of the show. Here is your reaction:

We have to agree, it is a truly wonderful, fabulous show and even if it made our eyes leak, we’re going to keep watching and following each of the couples. If you, like us, are a little sensitive, here’s a hug from us.

What did you think of the show? Let us know, either by commenting in the post below or tweeting @scd_support, we look forward to hearing from you. We’ll be back next Wednesday from 9pm to see our remaining 3 heroes, Anna, Trishna and Phil, take their first steps in the ballroom. We hope you can join us then.

Strictly Support Group – The People’s Strictly Chat!

With just 2 more sleeps until The People’s Strictly launches this Wednesday, we cannot wait and felt the need to commemorate the occasion with a Special midweek chat.

The People’s Strictly will give 6 inspirational, heroic and wonderful people the chance of a lifetime to perform on the Strictly dancefloor. We began by asking you who is your Strictly hero and why? You gave us some truly a-may-zing answers. Here are some of our favourites:

For our next question we asked you Strictly is all about surprising everyday heroes with the chance of a lifetime. What would your ultimate Strictly surprise be? We had some wonderful suggestions. Here are our favourites:

Our next question asked who you’ll be supporting on the People’s Strictly. We’re pretty sure they’ll all be fabulous. So far Team Robanna (Robin & Anna) seem to have a lot of support. We’d love to hear if you’re supporting another People’s Strictly couple. Comment below to let us know.

We then asked if you were asked to perform a dance on the People’s Strictly, what would you perform and who would you perform it with?

For our final question, we asked if you could nominate a friend to appear on the People’s Strictly who would it be and why? You guys are adorable creatures! It’s proof that Strictly forges friendships:

That ended tonight’s chat. We’ll be back on Wednesday from 7.30pm for the People’s Strictly. We hope you can join us then. In the meantime if you didn’t get the chance to take part in our chat tonight, just comment below or tweet @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Have a fab-u-lous evening all!

Monday Memory – If you’re feeling down, this dance will make you scream HAPPY DAYS

*Provides readers with earplugs* Today’s Monday Memory is proof that Mondays can be a Happy Day and don’t have to be blue, dreary or dull, dull, dull (take note Craig Revel Horwood!)

We’re taking you back to the moment Kevin from Grimsby turned into the Fonz and performed a fun, fab-u-lous and fantastic Charleston with Frankie on Strictly 2014.

We loved this dance for several reasons:
1) We loved the 50s style and concept – Frankie’s dress was amazing, Kevin became king of the quiff(tons) and the diner set was fantastic!
2) The music – It instantly put us in a good mood! We’re showing our age, but loved watching repeats of Happy Days growing up and this brings back so many memories.
3) The choreography – Kevin’s choreography was imaginative, and even if the lift may have gone a tincy bit wrong πŸ™ˆ, we still loved it!
4) The dancing – who’d have thought a 50s Charleston would work. It really did and truly made us smile! The whole routine and the dancing were fab-u-lous!

We hope you enjoy watching this dance. Here are Frankie and the Fonz from Grimsby Kevin from Grimsby with their Happy Days inspired Charleston. We hope it makes you smile and scream HAPPY DAYS:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. Tweet @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

πŸŽ‘πŸŽπŸŽŠ Strictly Support Group does Chinese New Year! πŸŽŠπŸŽπŸŽ‘

It was Chinese New Year on Thursday, so this evening we sat down to celebrate the occasion in the way we know best eating a Chinese Takeaway, having a Strictly-themed Chinese New Year Chat! For those of you suffering from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) we thought of you, so here’s a virtual takeaway just for you🍒πŸ₯πŸ£πŸ±πŸšπŸ™πŸ˜πŸ²πŸ€πŸ›πŸ‘.

We began the evening by asking you, If Strictly were a Chinese Takeaway dish which dish would it be and why? You gave us some mouth-wateringly good answers which made us very hungry *reaches for Chinese Takeaway menu and mobile phone* Here are some of our favourites:

Our favourite answer of the night coming up…

This year is the Year of the Goat/Sheep and people born in that year are characterised by the following characteristics:

We asked you for the professionals who best embody these characteristics. Here were your answers:

We also had last-minute suggestions for the wonderful Ariel from Grimsby Joanne Clifton!

We then asked you to name the celebrities who best embody these characteristics. We had some fantastic and fab-u-lous answers. Here they are in picture form:

For our next question, we asked which dance best embodies the Year of the Goat characteristics. You overwhelmingly voted the Waltz and Foxtrot. Watching this routine, we have to agree with you:

For our final question, we asked, if you were asked to choreograph a routine for Chinese New Year, what would you choreograph, who would dance it in and to which song? For us, we’d choreograph something a little like this:

We had a couple of great answers which we thought were Maavellous (it is the year of the goat after all!) Here is our favourite one:

We think the judges would give this dance a (not very) sheepish Sev-ern. Craig Revel Horwool would vote it Baa-may-zing too! Sorry for the bad sheep/goat jokes.

That ended our Chinese New Year chat. If you didn’t get the chance to take part, don’t worry, you still can, by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. We’ll be back on Monday from 7.30pm for a People’s Strictly chat. We hope you can join us then.

Samba Saturday – How The ‘Enders Cast Like To Wind Down!

If, like us, your reaction on hearing who killed Lucy Beale, looked something like this:

we’re pretty sure you’ll find today’s Samba Saturday light relief. In fact, we’re pretty sure, this dance is how the Eastenders cast will be chilling out after this week’s revelations. Yes! We’re pretty sure they do the Macarena in their spare time.

We’re watching Jake and Janette’s superb, zany, wonderful Samba. We loved this dance, especially the costumes, outfits, snake hips, twerking and music. We even managed to teach a 4 yr old at home how to macarena in time to the music.

It was one of those moments of Strictly pure joy which made us smile. We hope you enjoy it too. Here are Jake and Janette (aka Team Snakey Jan Jakey) performing their fab-u-lous Samba. We dare you to dance along at home. Go on, you know you want to!

*Stops dancing the Macarena!* We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. Tweet @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Comic Relief Danceathon – Let’s Do Something Sparkly For Money!

So, you’ve reluctantly agreed to take part in the Comic Relief Danceathon (on the promise you can wear as many sparkles as is humanly possible.) Now, the adrenaline, panic and fear set in. How am I going to do this? How will I dance for 6 hours? Have no fear, blog readers! We’re here to give you some advice and handy tips on how to step up to the challenge! Whether you’re taking part in the big event at the SSE Wembley Arena on the 8th March, or if you’re taking part in another event elsewhere, we’re pretty sure you’ll find these suggestions pretty useful.

Our tips:
1) Set up a Just Giving Page. Comic relief is a great cause and we want to raise as much cash as is possible. Setting up a justgiving page is easy. It takes just minutes and can be easily shared on twitter, facebook and other sites. Visit to set up your account.
2) Build up to the event with regular stamina building sessions. Whether it’s going for a run, a walk, spending time at a zumba class, doing the fitsteps dvd or another dance DVD, it’ll all help in the long run. If you can’t find time to do this, fear not. Take it easy on the day, have fun and pace yourself!
3) Wear something super sparkly but also comfy! When you’re dancing for 6 hours, you’re going to need to look fab-u-lous, but also feel comfortable. Leggings, sparkly tops, sweatbands and trainers will form part of our wardrobe for the event.

4) Keep hydrated and pace yourself. Some of us do have the energy level of the Duracell bunny, where as others prefer a more sedate pace. Don’t worry if the person next to you is giving it 110% in the first hour. As the old adage goes, slow and steady wins the race!

5) Have fun! We all love to dance, and raising money for a good cause, shouldn’t be tiresome. Enjoy every second of it. Those of you going to the SSE arena will be lucky enough to have the wonderful Claudia and Zoe involved, so we’re pretty sure there’ll be lots of comedy moments. If you’re going to another event, don’t panic. Just imagine your favourite professional dancer, your favourite Strictly moments or a moment that makes you smile and we’re pretty sure you’ll power through the event!

We also asked two of our favourite professional dancers, Karen Hauer and Kristina Rihanoff, for their tips for anyone taking part in the Comic Relief Danceathon. Here’s what they had to say:

Karen Hauer

I would absolutely advise to wear comfy shoes that won’t give you blisters. Don’t start dancing full out right away. Make sure to pace yourself. Drink lots of fluids and most important of all shake it like a Polaroid picture and smile!!! Eat nutella and have a coffee before you start.

Kristina Rihanoff

I’d advise to drink lots and listen to great music to keep you going!

We hope this post has helped. If you have any useful tips, share them with us by commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you. If you’re participating in the Danceathon, let us know and we’ll give you a shoutout to help you raise as much money as possible.
