Strictly Support Group Does British Summer Time!

Today marks the start of British Summer Time which means one thing, Summer is now here (well almost!) For tonight’s chat, we made the most of the extra hour of daylight to bring you a chat talking about all things Summery and Strictlified.

We started our chat by asking you this British Summer TIme signals the start of Spring and Summer. Which routine makes you think of these lighter days the most? You gave some fantastic answers. These were some of our favourite answers:

It’d seem that Mark and Karen’s Hot, Hot, Hot dance reminds you most of the lighter and sunnier days. We agree.  Do you agree?

For our next question we asked you this: The lighter and sunnier days remind us just of Strictly and make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Who for you is the Sunshine King and Queen on Strictly and why? We had some wonderful suggestions for you. Here are our favourites:

We then moved our chat on to asking you if Strictly were to host a Summer special, which dances/who would you like to see feature on the show? Here are the best answers from your wonderful sunny people:

For our final question, we asked you for a little bit of advice. With nights getting longer, we want to know what activities you’d like to see us hosting on these long summer nights?  If you can think of any new and fun activities we haven’t tried, let us know, either by commenting below or tweeting @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you.

That ended tonight’s chat. If you didn’t get the chance to take part, don’t worry! You still can by tweeting us or commenting below. We’re away for the next few days but will be back on Saturday for our next Strictly Support Group from 7pm. We hope you can join us then!

Smooth Sunday – 101 Reasons to Read this Post (most of them are fluffy!)

We’ve gone a little Disney mad over the last few days and today’s Smooth Sunday fix is no exception. You all know how the saying goes never work with animals or children. Well, today’s dance proved that animals don’t always perform how you expect them to, but Perdy and Perdita definitely looked fab-u-lous and furry during their dogography.

Yes, today we’re watching Judy and Anton’s Doggy-inspired American Smooth. There are 101 reasons that we enjoyed this routine. Well, almost 101! Here are some of them:

1) Although not technically perfect it was entertaining.

2) The doggies looked adorable and we wanted to take one home too (we’re not Cruella De Vil, honestly!)

3) The costumes and concept of the whole dance were wonderful and truly made us smile

4) Anton’s choreography as ever was brilliant and played to Judy’s strengths.

We could go on forever about why we enjoyed this dance, but it was one of those moments on Strictly which we loved. It is unforgettable and will go down in Strictly history.

In case you missed it earlier, here are Judy and Anton with their dogography-filled American Smooth:

We hope you enjoyed it and would love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. Just for you, we’ve also created you a Disney inspired spotify playlist and a youtube playlist. Click the links below to watch them. We hope you enjoy listening to and watching them:

We’d like to hear the Strictly dance from the Magical Kingdom you felt was most magical. Just vote in this poll below and we’ll reveal the winner tomorrow morning as our #mondaymemory:

Don’t forget to join us from 7.30pm tonight for our weekly Strictly Support Group on twitter @scd_support. We look forward to seeing you there.

Strictly Meets Disney – This Post Will Take You To A Whole New World, Under The Sea. :)

This afternoon, my almost 5 yr old is celebrating her birthday with a Disney princess themed party. Over the last few years we have seen some amazing Disney-themed Strictly routines which Mickey Mouse would be proud of! He would most definitely give them a 10.

It got us thinking, which routines have been the best? Here’s our Top 5!

5. Steve and Ola’s Jungle Book Inspired Quickstep

For us, this was a turning point for Steve and showed he was a true contender in the show. It was a performance packed full of fun and lots of steps. It made us smile and want to get up and dance. We defy anyone (well, nearly anyone) not to feel happy watching this routine. It was pure joy to watch.

4. Pixie and Trent’s Beauty and the Beast Inspired Quickstep

Not often can we say that a performance has truly amazed us, but this routine was as close to perfection as you can get. Trent’s choreography was wonderful and Pixie performed it perfectly. If they’re ever planning a Beauty and the Beast musical soon, we think they should cast these two straight away. They’d be brilliant.

3. Mark and Iveta’s Lion King Samba

There are performances on Strictly that truly make us smile, and this routine was one of them. Although it wasn’t technically perfect, we loved it and it really made us smile. Simba and Nala Mark and Iveta were a joy to watch and looked adorable as Lion Cubs. They were roarsome!

2. Alison and Aljaz’s Aladdin Inspired Charleston

Some couples radiate joy when they dance and these two were no exception. Their charleston was fun, fast and fantastic. When we saw it on the tour it was a routine that made us smile and want to get up and dance. Their energy was fantastic and their partnership even better. We loved it and are sure they’ll be friends for life!

1. Scott and Joanne’s Little Mermaid Samba #thecrabliveson

There are some unforgettable moments on Strictly and this will be one of them for many years to come. Scott deserved a 10 for performing in that costume. It was a performance that could only happen on Strictly. We loved it and it’s inspired my little girl’s birthday cake today:

So, there are our top Disney moments. What are your favourite Strictly meets Disney moments? Which dances do you think are worthy of being at the Magic Kingdom? Let us know, either by tweeting @scd_support or commenting in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Last night, we hosted our weekly quiz. It was a caption competition which truly lifted your mood. We know that lifts can make routines enjoyable and sometimes entertaining.

For tonight’s quiz, we focused on lifts that had truly made us smile, and asked you to send us your captions. You truly excelled and gave us some wonderful answers.

We started off by showing you this picture:

We had some great captions which made us smile. Here are some of our favourites:

For our next caption, we showed you this picture and asked you to give us your caption ideas.

Once again, you excelled and gave us some fab-u-lous answers. Here are the uh-may-zing captions you sent us:

We’re not picking on Anton, honest, but some of the lifts he’s done with his partners have been very entertaining, just like our next caption of the night:
Here are some of our favourite captions from you:

For our penultimate caption we showed your this gem of a picture from Scott and Joanne. We’re pretty sure this is how the lift was supposed to look and are glad that Scott didn’t drop Ariel from Grimsby. We asked you to send us your captions. Here are our favourites:

For our final caption, we showed you this classic moment from the Strictly tour:

Monday Memory – Another Terrific Thirty Moment For You All!

Yesterday I entered my thirties with a surprise Strictlified party, being showered with presents and spoilt rotten by my family.

For yesterday’s Smooth Sunday, I started off my 30th Year, showing you one of my favourite ever American Smooths from Rachel Riley and Pasha Kovalev.

For today’s Monday Memory, earlier I showed you Victoria and Brendan’s classy quickstep, straight from the Big Apple.

We loved this dance as it was effortless, elegant, sophisticated, classy and gorgeous. In our opinion, it deserved 4 10s (if anything for Brendan’s fall at the end), but it scored a magical score of 30.

As a treat for you this monday, I’ve compiled a Youtube Playlist with some of my favourite Terrific Thirty Moments. Just click this link to see which dances feature:

If you can think of another dance to have scored 30, which you’d like to see featured on our Playlist, let us know and we’ll add it. You can either tweet us @scd_support, or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Have a wonderful start to your week.

Smooth Sunday – A Spellbinding Birthday Treat!

Today is my birthday and today I’ve been opening presents, enjoying being spoilt rotten and  I’ve officially hit the age that our couples all aspire to reach on every performance. Yes I am now 30 (Eek!)

Sadly my wish of a Pasha in a box didn’t come true, but for today’s Smooth Sunday I showed you a spellbinding treat of an American Smooth from Rachel and Pasha. This dance scored 30/40 and was their highest scoring dance. Although it was their last performance, they truly went out on a high. The choreography was enchanting, The dancing was spellbinding, Pasha looked gorgeous *drools thinking of Pasha*, The costumes and concept were brilliant (Rachel looked adorable as a ghost) and the music was brilliant.

We loved this routine and hope you will too. Here are Rachel and Pasha to put a spell on you with their fab-u-lous  American Smooth:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. We also want to hear your favourite Strictly dances to have scored 30 points as we’re making a special 30th Birthday playlist. Comment below, tweet @scd_support and share this with your friends. We’d love to hear from you.

Have a wonderful day. We’ll be back on Wednesday for a quickfire quiz from 8pm.

Strictly Support Group – A Happy Days Chat!

Today has been International Happiness Day! Strictly is a programme that makes us feel happy, warm and fuzzy inside. In fact, these two routines from Strictly Come Dancing 2014 sum up just how we feel watching Strictly, very Happy!

We thought the best way to commemorate this Happy Day would be to host a Strictly Support Group Chat. We began by asking you How does Strictly Make you feel inside? You gave some fantastic answers. Here are some of our favourite answers:

For our next question, we turned to some of our favourite cartoon characters to ask you this:

You gave some great suggestions. Here are some of our favourites:

Some great suggestions from you all! For our next question we asked your happiest moment to have happened on Strictly. We had some fab-u-lous answers, but these two moments won your vote!

For our next question, we asked you for the dance that makes you feel happiest on Strictly. You gave some great suggestions, all of which we’ve compiled into a poll. All you need to do is vote before 5pm tomorrow and we’ll reveal the results just before 7pm tomorrow evening.

For our final question we asked you to describe strictly using the letters of the word HAPPY. We made you think, but once again you gave some great answers. Here are some of thes best ones:

That ended tonight’s chat. We’ll be back for a results reveal tomorrow just before 7pm and our quiz on Wednesday. We hope you can join us then.

Foxtrot Friday – A Ray Of Sunshine For You This International Day of Happiness!

It’s International Day of Happiness today, so we’re celebrating in the way we know best, by watching some of our favourite ever Strictly moments. There are very very few moments on Strictly that don’t make us smile (Craig being harsh to our couples and the dreaded Elimination being the only two we can think of) but of all the dances to make us feel happiest, the Foxtrot has to be the smiliest dance which makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I am very indecisive, and needed a little help, so I asked my almost 5 year old to help me pick today’s Foxtrot Friday, and she chose this wonderful dance from Frankie Bridge and Kevin Clifton.

She is a massive Kevin from Grimsby fan, but loved this dance because it reminded her of Summer, which makes her happy. She also liked it because they looked like they were having fun and Frankie’s dress made her look like a princess.

Watching this dance again we think it’s a great choice, especially for International Day Of Happiness. It is a dance which is a ray of sunshine, a pure joy to watch and will put a smile on even the grumpiest person’s face, take note Craig Revel-Horwood.

We loved it and hope you do to. We’d love to hear what you thought of it. Let us know by commenting below. Also, let us know your your Strictly moments of happiness ahead of tonight’s twitter chat. We’ll then compile your suggestions into a poll to decide the ultimate Strictly happiness moment with the results being revealed on Saturday evening.

From all at the Strictly Support Group, we wish you a very happy International Day of Happiness.

The People’s Strictly – A final interview with the lovely @philkidz

*pulls a shocked face* We can hardly believe that it’s been one week since The People’s Strictly and we’re all suffering a little bit with the Post-Strictly Blues. In fact, even today’s interviewee admitted he was missing it a little, earlier in the week:

Don’t worry, today’s interview is full of sunshine and will make even the grumpiest person smile. We’re interviewing the inspirational and wonderful Phil Barnett.

We started by asking him this… You looked like you had the best time ever on the Show! What was the best part of being involved in the show? (was it the fake tan? ;))

Phil – I DID have the best time on the show! IT WAS AMAZING!!! I think it was actually doing the routine on the night, although meeting the other five contestants ranks pretty high too!

We saw you suffer an injury and “dance through the pain” to produce a super smooth and

perfect American Smooth. What was the most challenging part of being involved in the People’s Strictly?

Phil – It was definitely having to wait for three weeks after the op before I could dance! When the others danced for Craig and I realised they had all learned their routines and I hadn’t started a step, it hit me quite hard and I started to panic! And then only having three weeks left to learn it all!

You were paired with the lovely Janette and had the wonderful Lisa Riley as your celebrity mentor. What was it like working with them?

Phil – Janette comes from a Musical Theatre background so she was a perfect partner for me to dance with. She had so much patience with me as I found remembering the steps a big challenge – I’m 54 now and not as quick on the uptake as I used to be! Lisa has been a revelation – full of personality as you can imagine but so kind and supportive too – I couldn’t have wished for a better mentor!

When you were surprised we saw the very talented Kidz R Us kids (and Kevin from Grimsby and Lisa)

surprise you with your very own Strictly Come Dancing show. How much support did you get from the kids and Janette?

Phil – The Kidz have been wonderful – right behind me every step of the way. What’s also been great is the number of ex-Kidz contacting me to wish me well and to say how much Kidz had had a positive impact on their lives. Janette choreographed our routine to suit my strengths and the lifts she put in were amazing! She had to really trust me as I was spinning her all over the place!

If you could nominate anyone to appear on The People’s Strictly who would you nominate and who would you pair them with?

Phil – I would nominate Lauren Trudgeon, to thank her for nominating me, as I know she has loved the whole Strictly experience and would love to do it herself. I would love to see her dance with Aljaz as he is her favourite!

If you could appear on the show again which dance would you like to try and why?

Phil –I would love to do the Argentine Tango or the Paso Doble – they are completely different from the Foxtrot and I would really like the drama of them!

Will you keep dancing after your taste of all things Strictly?

Phil – YES! YES! YES! Its been one of the highlights of my life and I feel so privileged to have taken part.

Thank you to Phil for agreeing to take part in our Q&A. We hope it has relieved your #strictly blues.
