Strictly Support Group – The Election!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, you probably know we are a week away from going to the polls for the General Election 2015!

Here at the Strictly Support Group, we love a poll to decide the answers to those tough questions and to crown an overall winner.

We’ve decided to launch our very own Strictly Support Group General Election! Over the next 7 days, we’ll show you some of our all-time favourite dances. Next Thursday we’ll give you all the chance to vote for your ultimate favourite. We’ll then reveal the winner and Prime Minister(s) of the Strictly Support Group!

Today, we’re watching Chelsee Healey and Pasha Kovalev dance their first-class Quickstep! When we first saw this dance back in 2011 we loved it. The story-telling was great, the choreography even better and the dancing was magnificent! It made us want to sing, sing, sing, sing (and vote) from the rooftops it was that great. It even scored 36 points in week 4 of the competition and showed that these two were true contenders.

We loved it and hope you will too. Here are Chelsee and Pasha with their fab-u-lous first class quickstep:

Now you’ve seen that dance we’d love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. Are you Team Chelsee and Pasha? What made them so great a partnership for you? Let us know, we’d love to hear from you.

We’ll be back tomorrow for the next candidate in our Strictly Support Group General Election!

Returning Officer of the Strictly Support Group!

International Dance Day – A little fun to celebrate today!

It’s International Dance Day! A day to celebrate the wonderful art form that is dance. Strictly went around the world (in almost 80 days) last year with an Around the World Week, featuring a spectacular Bollywood performance followed by a Riverdance-inspired routine from our wonderful pros!

For a little fun today, we’re asking you to vote for the routine (of these two dances) which means the world to you. Watch the two routines below and then vote in the poll to choose your favourite.

We’ll reveal the overall winner tonight during our Strictly Support Group weekly quiz from 8pm

We did a little survey on Instagram earlier and this was the response from you beautiful, wonderful people:

Get voting people! We also want to know the dance you feel represents the international day of dance best and your official international day of dance ambassador. Comment below or tweet us @scd_support with your suggestions.

From all at the Strictly Support Group, we wish you a very Happy International Dance Day!

Strictly Support Group – Here’s one we cooked up for you earlier!

What’s the recipe for a great Strictly Support Group Chat? Well, you need a great topic (thank you @sparkleyalex for suggesting tonight’s chat) and a great theme. Tonight we had both as we hosted a Masterchef themed chat. We think a certain Masterchef judge was a little bit excited at the prospect:

We started off our chat by asking you this:

If Strictly were a dish on Masterchef, what would it be and why? As well as making us extremely hungry, you gave us some truly deliciously, scrummy and fab-u-lous answers. Here are our favourites:

We then moved on to talk about chefs who have appeared on the show. A famous Masterchef Judge appeared (albeit briefly) last year on the show. We asked you which routine would you have liked to have seen Gregg and Aliona perform on the show? Here are some of our favourite suggestions:

We then moved on to ask you this A certain Strictly judge had the tables turned on him when he appeared on Celebrity Masterchef! If you could see another Strictly person on Masterchef who would it be & why?

You gave us some truly brilliant suggestions. Here are our favourites:

For our penultimate question we asked you which celebrity chef would you like to see follow in the footsteps of Gary Rhodes, James Martin, Hairy Dave and Gregg Wallace on Strictly? You gave us some amazing suggestions. Here are our favourites of the night:

For our final question, we went a little (fruit) loopy and asked If Strictly and Masterchef were to have a fusion show which dance would you want to see and which dish would make an appearance?

That ended our chat tonight. If you didn’t get the chance to take part, don’t worry, you can still take part by tweeting us @scd_support or commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you. We look forward to hearing from you.

Strictly Support Group – No dragons were harmed in the writing of this post!

We all know that Strictly Come Dancing makes us proud to be British, so in honour of it being St. George’s Day on Thursday, tonight we held a St. George’s Day themed chat.

The story of George and the Dragon is an iconic tale, full of strength and power, just like Strictly Come Dancing. We started off our chat by asking you “Which Strictly performance do you think St. George would be proud of the most?” You gave some truly amazing answers. Here are some of our favourites:

We then moved on our chat to ask Which Dance Style best represents the story of George and the Dragon and why?

You overwhelmingly agreed that the Paso Doble best represented the story. We couldn’t agree more so showed you our favourite Paso Doble (a paso from Grimsby via Blackpool and Seville) asking you which Paso Doble is your favourite. Here were some of your wonderful answers:

For the next question, we asked St. George is the Patron Saint of England. Which performance makes you proud to be British and why? You gave some amazing answers. This was the most popular answer of the lot:

In fact, as several of your mentioned this couple, we’ve decided to make Caroline and Pasha our St.George’s Day ambassadors 2015!

For our penultimate question we took a step back to 2013 when a very famous Dragon appeared on Strictly! We asked, if you could see another Dragon step on the Strictly Dancefloor and take on St. Craig Revel of Horwood, who would you like to see and who would you pair them with?

You all voted for this former Dragon!
We’d love to see Theo step on the dancefloor and think he’d be a great partner for Aliona or Janette. *clicks her glittery red heels together and makes a wish*

For our final question, we asked this: If Strictly were to host a St. George’s Day special, which performances would you like to see on the show and who would you like to see performing on the show? Here were some of your fab-u-lous answers:

That ended tonight’s chat. We hope you enjoyed it. If you didn’t get the chance to take part in our chat, just comment below or tweet us @scd_support, we’d love to hear from you. We’re back on Tuesday night from 8pm for a short chat. We hope you can join us then.

Swing Patrol – Our Very First Class!

Ever since watching Dragon’s Den last year, we’ve been eagerly waiting for the chance to try Swing Patrol. Last night, we put on our best jazz shoes and 1940s style dresses (well, I did! My husband didn’t) and ventured to our very first Swing Patrol class.

In case you’ve been living on a different planet over the last few months, Swing Patrol is a fun and friendly way of learning Swing, Lindy Hop, Charleston through classes taking place all over London. It’s also one of Deborah Meaden’s investments from Dragon’s Den last year.

The classes are divided up into different levels, and there are classes taking place in lots of locations over London every night of the week. Level 1 classes are for complete beginners and teach you the basics of swing dance. There are also classes for the more advanced and experienced dancers (Level 2 and 3) and half-levels (Level 1.5 and 2.5) for people wanting to add more strings to their bow. In our case we were learning Lindy Hop, which we loved! As well as the classes, there are also fun Social events you can take part in too. We’re hoping to take part in too.

We went along to a Level 1 class, and, because we were having so much fun, stayed on for the Level 1.5 class. Classes cost Β£8 per person, and are not only great fun, but a fantastic workout too. They are also a great place to meet other dance fans. You don’t have to have a partner and everyone was really friendly. After the classes, there

Our teachers, Cat and Simon, also made the steps really easy to follow and a lot of fun too. They are true ambassadors for Swing Patrol as a brand. They embrace the joy of dance and we couldn’t stop smiling from start to finish! In fact, all of Swing Patrol seems like a whole world full of loveliness. Just look at this tweet, we got from them earlier:

We loved our very first taster of Swing Patrol and will definitely be back for more fun next week.

Tango Tuesday – A Formidable, Unforgettable and Flying Routine

In a few weeks time, Britain will go to the polls for the General Election. As you will know, here at the Strictly Support Group, we know that there is no better way to decide our favourite Strictly Couples than with a poll!

In the run-up to the Strictly Support Group General Election, today’s Tango is an unforgettable, formidable, flying routine. It’s the sort of dance that words cannot describe and has gone down in history as one of the most memorable moments on Strictly.

Yes, today we’re watching Ann and Anton’s Tango. It was a dance that made us smile and was pure entertainment! If it were for entertainment alone, it deserved 10/10.

We hope it makes you smile today, so here are Ann and Anton with their Tango.

We’ll be hosting the Strictly Support Group General Election over the next couple of weeks. We’ll be asking you to vote for your favourite party/partnership who will be crowned Prime Minister & Deputy Prime Minister on Friday 8th May. Keep your eyes peeled for our Party Political Broadcasts coming soon!

We’d love to hear what you thought of today’s Tango Tuesday. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

🍌 Banana Day Wednesday Warm-Up – You’ll be bananas to not read this post. 🍌

*Slips over a banana skin* Yes, there really is such a day as banana day and today just happens to be that day.

Traditionally, on a Wednesday warm-up, we show you a dance to relieve your hump day blues. Today’s dance is no exception, and *pauses to create suspense* it features bananas. Hoorah! We’re all happy, well almost all of us, with the exception of this guy:

Hey! This isn’t a banana! Who’s been eating all my bananas? 🍌

Sorry Oscar (the Orangatun!) Hopefully, today’s Wednesday Warm-Up will make you smile. We’re watching the banana and fruit-filled Salsa from Hairy Biker Dave Myers and the lovely Karen Hauer.

This was my 5 yr old’s favourite routine of Strictly 2013 (partly because of Dave’s head roll!) Although, technically it wasn’t the best dance of the night, it made us smile and suffer from dress envy (we wanted Karen’s dress and Hat!)

Karen’s choreography was great and played to Dave’s strengths. We grew up watching Jim Carrey, so anything from one of his films always cheers us up whenever we have a bad day.

This whole dance is one of those memorable moments that sums up what strictly is all about. Strictly isn’t just about dancing, but about having fun along the way, and these two looked like they had it by the bucketload! Even the parrot on Dave’s trolley looked like he/she enjoyed him/herself!

We hope you enjoy watching this dance and we hope it relieves your midweek blues. Here are some bananas for you & Dave and Karen with their fabulously fun and banana-filled Salsa:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that (not the bananas, the dance!) Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Monday Memory – A Boogedy Boogedy Boogedy Boogie Shoobee Doowop Sheebop To Kick-Start your Week!

Being eternal optimists and glass half-full types of people, we relish Monday mornings once we’ve had a cup of coffee, or two! As well as a cup of coffee, we always find our Monday Memory helps make us smile on a Monday Morning.

Today’s dance comes from our reigning champions Caroline Flack and Pasha Kovalev. It’s their Grease-inspired quickstep.

There are several reasons we loved this dance, but must admit that Pasha’s choreography, especially when it comes to Quicksteps, is top notch and this dance was no exception.

It was a truly joyous routine and being the last routine of the night when it was first performed, we can truly say that Strictly saved the best till last.

It’s left us grinning like the cheshire cat this morning. We showed it to a Panda 🐼earlier and this was his reaction:

I want Bambalooba, I want Bamboo!

He may have been hungry after watching it, but we’re pretty sure he enjoyed it and hope you will too. Here are Caroline and Pasha with their fabulous quickstep:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that routine. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you!

Smooth Sunday – A Birthday Surprise For a Special Friend @serenepingu 🐧

Today, my lovely friend Serene turns 30 (even though she only looks about 12 – lucky thing) & as a special Birthday treat, I did some undercover detective work earlier on this week, looking a little like this guy (but less fluffy) to find out what her favourite American Smooth was.

She (being an indecisive lady) picked Louis and Flavia’s fabulous dance. She loved this dance for several reasons:

1) She likes the quickstep and quickstep based American Smooths

2) It showcased Louis’s strength (and muscles) 😍

3) The staging and music were great, along with Flavia’s choreography and Louis’s breakdancing/gymnastics section in the middle.

4) It was a perfect fusion between 1940s and modern-day dance and was an amazing performance overall.

I think it’s a great choice and really enjoyed watching it. I hope you will too:

Happy Birthday Serene! Have a Terrific Day & enjoy being spoilt rotten. You deserve it and hope you liked your treat.

I’d love to hear what the rest of you thought of that dance. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. Look forward to hearing from you.
