Thought For Thursdays – πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ‘°πŸ» Time To Talk About Wedding Dances! πŸ‘°πŸ»πŸ’ƒπŸ»

Over the next few Thursdays we’re going to pause for a thought and invite a small discussion about things relating to dance that we have encountered over the last few weeks. This week we’re talking about Wedding Dances.

So last week, we were treated to another wonderful video from Kevin and Karen on their YouTube Channel. We have missed their How-To-Dance videos and have to say this Wedding Dance Special was truly brilliant!

In case you missed it, here it is again:

I think you’ll agree it’s not just entertaining but all that a wedding dance should be and much more.

Last week, I was also treated to a sneak peek at my best friend’s first dance! She’s getting married in 2 months’ time and after a dress fitting (Bella is her bridesmaid) took me somewhere where I could see her first dance.

First dances should always be romantic in my opinion. Part of the romance of seeing a couple take their first steps together as man and wife on the dance floor is magical. When she told me her wedding dance would be on rollerskates, I was curious but also a bit concerned 😱

The expression on my face when I heard about my friend’s wedding dance – a reconstruction!

Rollerskates always make me think of 1980s electro-pop and not a romantic slow dance. My friend admitted to me she’s not the most coordinated person, which set off alarm bells in my head. I needn’t have worried, as fortunately there were no injuries, but the whole experience really surprised me.

It is choreographed to a slow romantic song and is really beautiful. I love strictly, and having been to many weddings over the last few years, I do love seeing a couple take their first steps as man and wife together on the dance floor. My and My husband’s first dance was a traditional slow number. I didn’t think I’d ever say this but I really enjoyed seeing them skate on the dancefloor together. Yes, it’s not traditional, but the whole idea of a wedding dance is seeing a couple dance together as man and wife for the first time and seeing the love between them as they start on their new life together. This dance did just that, and what’s more, it moved me to tears!

Dance connects with the soul and the important part of the first dance at a wedding is to add to the whole wedding experience. Whether it be traditional, original or unusual, it does not matter. It is something that allows you to remember what should and will no doubt be a magical day!

Here are some of our all-time favourite wedding dances:

Let us know your favourites & we’ll add them to the list ready for Wedding Season.

We hope you enjoyed reading this post. We’ll be back next week for another Thought For Thursday Post!

Strictly Support Group – Champion of Champions – πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ƒπŸ» THE FINAL πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ƒπŸ»

It’s Easter Sunday, we’ve eaten our body weight in chocolate and are more excited than kids in a sweet shop! Yes, it’s the final of our Strictly Support Group Champion of Champions.

A huge thank you to you all for your votes. We are really grateful for them all and couldn’t have done it without you. Over the past 12 weeks, we’ve received a mammoth 120,000 votes from you all *drools imagining how that would look in glitterballs.*

As this has proven so successful, we will be hosting another Champion of Champions in the next few weeks, so watch this space!

This past week you have been voting for your favourite from our three finalists. All three of them are worthy winners of the glitterball in their own right and have been crowned champions before, but who will win tonight? *builds suspense by doing a jive with Jive Bunny*

Will it be Team Jaliona? Who could forget that awesome Jive and Tango, as well as their brilliant Rumba and Charleston.

Will it be Team Hariona? Their quickstep and Argentine tango are two of our favourite moments from Strictly ever!

Or

Will it be Team Kartem? Their chemistry and dancing together was pure perfection. Who could forget their beautiful American Smooth, which was different to anything we’d ever seen on Strictly? Or that beautiful Rumba. It wasn’t just any Rumba but an M &S Rumba a Team Kartem Rumba.

We can now reveal that your votes have been checked, counted and verified by Bugs the Easter Jive Bunny. He’s been super busy this week, but took time out of his schedule to help us. We are grateful to you Bugs 😘🐰. We can now reveal that the couple coming in Third Place are Kara and Artem.

In Second Place we have Harry and Aliona.

And our Champion of Champions for this series are Jay and Aliona! Congratulations to Team Jaliona. We couldn’t find you a Glitterball, so made you this instead:

So that crowns Jay and Aliona not just the current champions, but tour champions and Strictly Support Group champions. They are truly unbeatable! Congratulations!

We’ll be back in May for our next Strictly Support Group champion of champions. This time it’ll be sportsperson themed, to tie in the Olympics and Paralympics as well as various other sports things going on this year! We want to hear your nominations for who you’d like to see taking part. You can tweet us @scd_support or comment below to let us know. We’ll need your suggestions before the 23rd April, so get your thinking caps on folks!

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Remember to Keep Dancing!

We began our chat, filled with chocolate and asked If Strictly were an Easter Egg what sort would it be and why? We had some brilliant answer from you all. Here are some of our favourites (you really egg-shelled yourselves tonight!)

For our next question, we asked you to tell us which Strictly performances were most like these Easter Eggs:

Here are some of your brilliant suggestions!

For our next question we asked you to tell us the Strictly moments you felt Bugs, the Easter Bunny would be proudest of. Here are some of chocalicious suggestions:

We then asked you to tell us the people you felt had egg-shelled/excelled on Strictly and surprised you the most! We had some wonderful suggestions. Here they are:

Strictly Support Group – Champion of Champions – πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ƒπŸ» The Semi-Finals πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ƒπŸ»

We’re excited and these guys are excited (some more than others) as this week it’s the semi-final!

Yes it’s the penultimate week of our Champion of Champions. This week’s results have been checked and counted by a pair of Panda Cubs 🐼🐼 *thinks she may look like them after the results are revealed this week so she touches up her mascara*

The semi-finals are always the place where disappointment is palpable for the couples who go home. They are so close to the final, but yet so far. We can now reveal that the couples leaving the competition at the final hurdle are Georgia and Giovanni and Chelsee and Pasha.

*Touches up her mascara once again!*

We have to admit, it has got really emosh tonight!

We’re now at the final hurdle and only one couple can win the title of our Champion of Champions! We have 5 dances for you to watch this week. Just click the link below to see the dances:

Once you’ve watched them you can vote as many times as you wish for as many couples as you want up until 6pm 0n Easter Sunday. We’ll then crown the overall winners at 8pm!

Get voting and dance-watching people! You can also back your favourites by using the hashtags #voteteamjaliona #voteteamhariona #voteteamkartem once you’ve voted. Let us know by tweeting @scd_support to let us know who gets your vote!

Strictly Support Group Does International Day Of Happiness! πŸ˜†

Tomorrow is International Day Of Happiness. We’re pretty sure that even Craig will be smiling tomorrow, so tonight we hosted a Happiness themed chat to make us and you smile. It really worked! Here’s a recap of what happened.

After filling you all with Strictly Snacks as diverse as Jaffa Jive Cakes and Samba Rolls, we began our chat by asking Which moment on Strictly made you smile the most and why? Here are your answers in Playlist form:

If you can think of any other dances to add to this playlist, let us know and we’ll make sure they’re added as soon as possible.

We then moved our chat on to ask for the celebrities and professionals who best summed up these two cartoon characters

Here are the celebrities you would name your Mr Happy or Little Miss Sunshine:

It’d seem one lady was named your little Miss Sunshine! It’s clear to see why. Her sunny disposition lit up the dancefloor last year. OK, she wasn’t the best dancer, but she never let the criticism get her down, it’s Carol Kirkwood!

We then asked you to tell us the professional dancers who you felt best summed up these two cartoon characters:

We have to agree these suggestions are absolutely true! Mr and Mrs C should be called Mr and Mrs Happy, in our opinion.

For our next question, we focused on the grumpy one(s) in the sparkly world of Strictly Come Dancing. Yes, some judges can be grumpy some of the time (Craig and Len!) We asked you to tell us what you would do to make them smile. Here are some of your fab-u-lous suggestions:

https://twitter.com/sparkleyalex/status/711284605266092032

Fact, my daughter would definitely give Craig a good talking too, and would ensure he removed his lower score paddles from under his desk.

We’d personally tickle him with a feather duster! Although remembering this routine, we’re not sure it’d have the desired effect:

For our final question of the evening, we asked you to tell us if you could see anything happen on Strictly 2016 which would make you smile, what would it be? Here are your brilliant suggestions:

We love this suggestion, provided that Craig Revel Horwood gets a squeaky nose! *Imagines the fun and games Tess and Claudia would have with this!*

Love this suggestion! It’d be just like the tour, but even better.

That ended tonight’s chat. Thank you for really making us smile! We hope you enjoyed reading this recap. If you didn’t get a chance to participate, don’t fear! You can still join in by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below to let us know your answers. We look forward to hearing from you.

We’re back tomorrow from 8pm for our Strictly Support Group Champion of Champions final. We hope to see you then.

Immortal Tango – A Review

This weekend was the weekend we went to the theatre and got truly Strictlified.

On Friday night, I got dressed as a flapper girl and was taken to see the hugely talented Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox (and yes, I did attempt the Charleston throughout the show,) On Saturday, we went to see Wicked where my 5 year old wanted to defy gravity but realising this would be very challenging requested this look instead:

And yesterday, I was lucky enough to be taken to Sadler’s Wells to experience the impressively amazing show that is Immortal Tango!

Immortal Tango is the creation of the international Tango superstar, German Cornejo. It brings together passion, glamour, drama, exquisite costumes and brilliant live music. It sounded as thrilling as a Strictly Live show, and we were not to be disappointed. The whole show was truly amazing.

I love the drama and passion that the Tango exude. Over the years on Strictly we have been treated to some truly incredible tangos. Take for example Mark Ramprakash and Karen Hardy’s iconic Argentine Tango, or Zoe and Ian’s dramatic Ballroom Tango and more recently Simon and Kristina’s amazing Argentine Tango. This show not only reminded us of some of these brilliant Strictly moments, but also made appreciate what an incredible dance is the tango.

The dancing and choreography from start to finish were truly exquisite. There were dramatic moments which thrilled us (such as the choreographed fight scene,) moments which made us laugh (such as the comedy picnic moment) and emotional moments which did make our eyes leak ever so slightly (such as the contemporary balletic Schindler’s List routine.)

The music really added to the atmosphere. There were traditional tango songs, as well as more modern pop songs which had us singing along in our seats. Credit has to go to the amazing singer and band (all of whom are very very talented.) My nearly 6 year old now wants to learn the accordion because of you. The costumes were also divine and gave us serious dress envy.

We loved the show and it transported us all the way to Buenos Aires (without the jet lag.) The show’s name is perfectly apt. From the traditional to the more modern interpretations of this dance form, it shows us that tango really is immortal. It will keep changing and thrilling us for many more years to come.

In our opinion it deserves 10/10, a glitterball and a 5* review!

Immortal Tango is on at the Peacock Theatre, Sadler’s Wells until the 19th March. For tickets and more information, visit http://www.sadlerswells.com

Strictly Support Group – Champion of Champions – πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ƒπŸ» The Quarter-Finals πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ƒπŸ»

Yes, we can hardly believe it ourselves, we are now in Week 11 of this competition, AKA the quarter-finals and it’s a double elimination this week. We interrupted Len, mid walnut-pickling earlier and this was his reaction:

I’ll pickle more walnuts! It’s the quarter-finals already.

Len may be in about as much shock and surprise as we are, so we needed some (impartial) help checking and counting your votes.

This week, we called on the services of my husband Craig who’s very honest (sounds a bit like another Craig we know) to check and count your votes. Your votes have been verified and we can now reveal that the two couples leaving the competition this week are *builds suspense by attempting the charleston* Ali and Brian and Abbey and Aljaz. It’s definitely not a good week for the A-Team.

We can hardly believe this result ourselves *hunts Len’s pickled walnut recipe so she can try pickling some walnuts to see if it’ll calm her nerves*

Anyway, it is now the semi-final and as this result has shown again, none of your favourites are safe without your votes. Here are our semi-finalists and their performances:

 http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbpw-gqR2K3bdApfiOnHxAv36FZ40GZij

Once you’ve watched the performances, you can vote in the poll below. You can vote for as many couples as you like, once a day. Voting will close next Sunday at 6pm and we’ll then reveal our finalists at 8pm.

Keep dancing and voting!

Strictly Support Group – We’re off to the Theatre!

This weekend in our house we’re indulging our love of all things musical and dance related with a trip to the ballet, a trip to a musical and a trip to a concert. Tonight we went all jazz hands as we hosted a theatrical and musical themed chat!

We began our chat by asking you to tell us your favourite musical numbers performed on Strictly and why. Here are your wonderful answers:

We loved these suggestions and agree they are all truly mesmerising musical numbers. Part of every good musical is a great storyline, so for our next question, we asked which partnership on Strictly have been (in your opinion) the best storytellers? Here were your fab-u-lous answers:

Another great part of any musical is, of course the music! For our next question we asked for your favourite renditions from the Strictly Band. It is difficult to choose, but you gave us these suggestions:

For our next question we asked you to create Strictly: The Musical! What would your storyline be? Who would be your leading lady/gent? Here were some of your amazing answers:

We loved these suggestions and are pretty sure they’d get rave reviews, well we’d give them amazing reviews anyway.

For our final question we asked if there were to be a Strictly 2016 musical special, which musicals would you like to see appearing on the show and what dances would you like to see performed? Here were your brilliant ideas:

That ended tonight’s chat. We hope you all enjoyed taking part. We’re back tomorrow from 8pm for our Strictly Support Group Champion of Champions results. We hope to see you there!

Strictly 2016 – Tristan Quits Strictly!

It’s always a date to remember when we receive the first bit of Strictly news of the year and today we heard that Tristan will not be returning to Strictly 2016.

We were very sad to hear this news but respect this decision as to quote his own words to macmaniacs.org the show is “not for him.”

Over the past 2 series, we have fallen in love with Tristan. He has come across as a very sweet and caring teacher who always does what’s best for his partners whilst instilling confidence in them. He also has become a bit of a heartthrob in our house (sorry Pasha!) We will miss seeing him on the show, and wish him all the best in whatever he does next.

It’d seem lots of you will miss him too.

My little girl who is the smallest biggest Strictly fan I know decided to tell me “Mummy, He should always do what makes him happy and if being on Strictly doesn’t make him happy he shouldn’t do it anymore. I could be a pro on Strictly and replace him this year!” Well put Bella! πŸ˜†

This was the general consensus amongst you when we asked how you felt about the news earlier this evening:

We agree, it is a bit quackers and we know that so far this year there will be 4 pros not returning! Strictly 2016 is sure to be a series full of changes and we cannot wait to see what the show has up its sleeves!

Let us know what you think about the news. You can comment below or tweet @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you.

Strictly Support Group – Champion of Champions – Week 10!

Happy Mother’s Day! We hope all you mums have been thoroughly treated today as you deserve it.

It’s Week 10 of our Champion of Champions. We’re excited, you’re excited and we think the judges are too (even if they’ve had a bit too much glitter this week) as this picture demonstrates:

Craig: Stay composed Darcey, Stay composed!

Despite the bizarre judge behaviour this week we can now reveal that your votes have been checked, verified and counted by a school of dolphins. They’re as clever as us Strictly Fans and have been on the show before, you know:

Thank you all for voting again. You are truly uh-may-zing. We can now reveal that the couple leaving us with the lowest number of votes this week are series 6 runners up Rachel and Vincent. This is not a bellisimo result!  *Makes a crying noise like a dolphin* 🐬😒 It’s another shock result, yet again!

Anyway, onwards and upwards to week 10. You can see this week’s dances here:

Once you’ve watched the dances, you know the drill. You can vote once a day for as many couples as you like. Voting will close next Sunday at 6pm and we’ll then reveal the results at 7.30pm.

Get voting folks! Remember nobody is safe and next week will be a Double Elimination *quakes in her sparkly boots*
