Strictly Support Group – πŸ’ƒπŸ»βš½οΈπŸ‰πŸ† Sports Champion of Champions – Week 2 πŸ†πŸ‰βš½οΈπŸ’ƒπŸ»

Welcome back to part two of our Strictly Support Group – Sports Champion of Champions!

Last week our couples set off on their marathon ten week competition at the end of which one couple will be crowned Sports Champion of Champions and be awarded the Sparkly Glitter-Foot-Ball! *cheers* This week we’re in the home of football, Barcelona to stay in keeping with the football theme!

Thank you for all your wonderful votes. They have been counted, checked and verified by our referee and we can now reveal that the couple leaving this week with the lowest number of votes are Series 2 runners up Denise Lewis and Ian Waite. *fans herself with the shock*

It is a surprising result *hears a thud as Bruno falls off his chair and calls 999!* It is sadly all over for this couple and it goes to prove that your favourites are not safe without your votes.

There are now 9 couples left and here are their wonderful week 2 dances. Just click the link below to watch their week 2 dances. Once you’ve done this, you can vote for your favourites using the poll below. You can vote once a day for as many couples as you like. Voting will remain open until next Sunday at 6pm, when it’ll be frozen and the couple with the lowest votes will then be eliminated from the competition! 😱

Keep Voting, Dancing and Playing Whatever Sport You Choose To Do (Supporting Strictly does officially count as a sport in our book!)

Strictly Support Group – A Strictly 2016 Chat – Back To The Future!

Strictly 2016 is just 4 months away and tonight we went back to the future (without the dolphin costumes) to chat about all things Strictly 2016!

Thanks to The Doctor for loaning us his TARDIS. We’re slightly disappointed it didn’t take us to the Strictly Ballroom, but never mind, there’s always next time.

We began our chat by asking you this question: We’re impatiently/patiently waiting for the Strictly Pros to be announced for 2016, which pros would you like to see back on the show this year? We all agreed with you that we’d love to see all the remaining pros back on the show in 2016. *Crosses fingers, legs, toes and any other limbs then falls over attempting the Charleston!*

We know that 4 pros will not be returning to Strictly 2016. We’ll miss them all, but particularly this one’s beautiful face:

We asked which professional dancers would you like to see take their place? Here are some of our favourite suggestions:

We loved all your suggestions and it got us thinking… How brilliant would it be to have all these pros on the show. You could have 52 professional dancers and strictly could run all year round!

For our third question of the evening we asked you this! There have been many celebrities rumoured to be taking part on Strictly 2016. Which celebrities would you like to see on the show this year? We had some great suggestions. Of which these were our favourites:

We’d love to see some Olympians but also some Paralympians too. Let us know what you think!

For our next question we asked you the following question. Strictly 2015 was the year of The Gleb Special. What will Strictly 2016 be the year of? We had some fab-u-lous answers from you all of which these were our favourites…

For our penultimate question we asked you. Strictly 2015 was also the year of The Jive! Which dance do you think will be the dance of Strictly 2016? Here were some of your wonderful suggestions.

For our final question we asked you to tell us the dance styles you’d like to see on Strictly 2016. Here are some of your brilliant suggestions:

That ended tonight’s chat. We must say you were (as always) superb and fab-u-lous. We’re sure Strictly 2016 will be just as fab-u-lous. Here’s to hoping we’ll see many more of these on this year’s show!

If you didn’t get a chance to take part, don’t fear! You can still join in by commenting below or tweeting your answers to @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you. We’re back tomorrow from 7.30pm for the Champion of Champions Results! We hope to see you then.

Strictly Support Group – A Number Themed Chat!Β

Numbers form an important part of Strictly, so for tonight’s Strictly Support Group, we hosted a number themed chat!

We counted you in with 5, 6, 7, 8 before asking you our first question:

Who is your number one on #Strictly? Who do you think is the Cat’s Whisker’s, pawsome and why?

You gave us some one-derful answers. Here are some of our favourites of the night:

We thought these answers were ond-erful, so for our second question we asked you this:

It takes two to tango, but who on #Strictly do you think mastered this dance style best? We had some great suggestions. Here are our favourites in Playlist form:

Three is a magic number, so for our third question we asked which moment has been most spellbinding for you and magical? Here were some of your magical answers as another playlist:

The Strictly Judges (AKA The Fab-u-lous and Fearsome Foursome) provide us with many memorable moments on Strictly. For our fourth question, we asked you to tell us your favourite moment from the fab-u-lous and fearsome foursome:

You overwhelmingly voted for this moment:

We also had these suggestions:

For our fifth question, we asked you this:

You gave us some wonderful suggestions, just like this wonderful playlist:

For our final question of the night, we asked you this. We love it when a couple scores a perfect 40, even if it is really rare, but which dance should have been awarded full marks and what made it so great for you? Here are some of your brilliant suggestions *makes sure Craig has several extra 10 paddles for Strictly 2016*

That ended our chat. Thank you all for taking part, we think you are all the best and are our favourites. If you missed out, don’t fear! You can still take part by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Strictly Support Group does Eurovision!

It’s that time of the year again; time for Eurovision. Yes, time for countries across Europe and some other continents to join together for one night in the name of music!

We’ve always wondered what a Strictly Eurovision Special would look like. We’ve had dances that captured the spirit of Eurovision perfectly, like this one before:

For one night only, we hosted a Eurovision themed Strictly Support Group!

We began our chat by asking you:

Which Strictly performance/dance would best fit in at Eurovision and why?

You gave us some answers worthy of douze points, answers like these:

For our next question we asked this:

Strictly showcases some of the world’s best dancers. If you could see anyone who has appeared on Strictly perform on the Eurovision Song Contest who would it be and why?

*wonders if she can sing*

*removes all stools from his performance to avoid any injury*

We’ve heard Craig sing and have a feeling this could definitely score Douze Points!

For our next question we asked:

On the Eurovision Song Contest, the best dances are awarded douze points. If you could award one Strictly performance douze points what would it be?

We had several suggestions from you all. Here they are in playlist form:

For our next question we reminded you of this moment, when a former Strictly pairing appeared on the Eurovision Dance contest.

We asked you if you could see one Strictly couple represent the UK at a Eurovision Dance Contest, who would it be?

Here were some of your fab-u-lous answers:

It was pretty unanimous that Jay and Aliona should represent the UK in a Eurovision Dance Contest. If they danced that jive, they would definitely win.

For the final question of the evening we invited you to get creative as we asked you to design your dream Eurovision Strictly special. We asked you to tell us the dances and Eurovision songs you’d like to see feature. Here are some of your suggestions:

And that ended our Eurovision chat tonight. Can we say tonight that we felt you all deserved douze points from us and a sparkly Eurovision trophy. Thank you everyone who took part. If you didn’t get a chance to take part, don’t fear! You can still tweet @scd_support or comment below to let us know.

We look forward to hearing from you.

We’re back tomorrow night from 7.30pm to celebrate #strictlyday with a short chat and quiz & to reveal the winners of our #strictlyday giveaway. We hope to see you then.

Goodnight, Bonne nuit, Buenas Noches from us!

Strictly Support Group Tackles The BBC White Paper!

If you haven’t been living in a sparkly bubble over the last 24 hours, you’d have probably heard the news about John Whittingdale’s White Paper on the running of the BBC.

As a keen supporter of the #saveourstrictly campaign, we don’t want any aspect of our favourite show to change ever! Strictly is the best show on TV and one of the most creative shows ever. It is worth the licence fee alone and nothing can come between us and Strictly.

We read the BBC’s revised mission statement in the light of the White Paper and felt it made for some very interesting reading. In fact, every part of it relates to Strictly in some way, shape or form (be it a sparkly glitterball or a square!) Here are our views on the points raised:

According to the new mission Statement, the BBC should:

1)  Provide impartial information to help people understand and engage with the world around them. Strictly does this to some extent already. The judges provide an impartial commentary on the dances they have seen. This helps us understand the performances and helps us decide week after week who gets our vote. The judges are honest but constructive at the same time. One judge is more honest than others *mutters under her breath Craig Revel Horwood*

We are also treated to some wonderful daily Strictly fixes during Strictly Season from the brilliant It Takes Two team who bring us news and interviews from the training room throughout the show.

2) Support learning for people of all ages. Strictly has got the nation dancing. As a show in the past 12 years it has really given us a dancing bug; in fact so much so that many dance classes are over-subscribed. It has not only got young people dancing, but also got many grown-ups dancing too and has encouraged us to explore new cultural pursuits and activities.

3) Show the most creative, highest quality and distinctive content. There is no show like Strictly! It combines some of the most talented and creative people in the world. Take for example, the wonderful professionals who choreograph some brilliant routines and thrill us week after week with their impressive performances. Also look at the award-winning make-up, costume and hair teams who make the dances come to life week after week and given the time limits create some wonderful pieces of fashion. Take also for example the creative routines we have seen over the past few years such as the Cinema inspired movie-week professional dance. Also, where else on TV can you be entertained by a brilliantly talented live band week after week? They recreate some magical musical moments and add to the whole effect of a creative and entertaining show which is different to its competitors.

Strictly has become THE place for people to show their talent and show that they can make great entertainment. Strictly has also become a worldwide format and phenomenon. The UK version of Strictly Come Dancing has set the standard for other versions of the show worldwide. Also winning an NTA, a BAFTA, TRIC awards and several other awards is testament to the show’s overall strength.

4) Reflect, represent and serve the diverse communities of all the UK’s nations and regions. Strictly appeals to all ages, all backgrounds and people from many different areas of the U.K. Strictly has also helped forge friendships nationwide. People who may never have met have met and become good friends as a result of Strictly.

So there are our views. We think you’ll all agree that Strictly is the best show on TV and it doesn’t need awards to tell us that. All the BBC White Paper has done is show us what a wonderful show Strictly is. After nearly 12 years and 13 series, Strictly is here to stay in our hearts and nothing can stop that! Tell us what you think of the White Paper. Comment below or tweet @scd_support to tell us. We look forward to hearing from you.

I’ll leave you with a little Bellaism from my 6 year old Superfan this evening:

Strictly Support Group – The Strictly Army Needs You!

Earlier today we read this very interesting opinion piece in The Guardian:

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/may/09/watch-out-john-whittingdale-craig-revel-horwoods-armies-save-bbc?CMP=twt_gu

We are the Strictly Superfans and part of the so called Strictly Army!

It got us thinking, if Strictly ever hosted a Strictly Army recruitment drive, what would it look like? We have a feeling it’d look a little like this:

Lovely as Craig is, his serious face sure would force even the sequin-haters (yes they do exist) to sign up and defend the nation and make the nation even more fab-u-lous than they already are!

When we shared this with you earlier, we had some brilliant tweets and ideas for the Save our Strictly campaign. Tweets like these:

We know that with these heroes on board and our support nobody can do anything to stop Strictly gracing our screens with its sparkle! We are the Strictly Army and we are here to Save Our Strictly (SOS) and stay! Long live Strictly!

Strictly Support Group – πŸ’ƒπŸ»βš½οΈπŸ†Champion of Champions Sports Special – The Launch πŸ†βš½οΈπŸ’ƒπŸ»

This summer is set to be a sporting summer with Euro 2016, Wimbledon and the Olympics all taking place. We’re sure our summer days will be spent celebrating and if there’s one thing we love about as much as celebrating sporting success, it’s Strictly Come Dancing. It got us thinking, if Strictly did a Sports Special, we’re pretty sure the winning trophy would look a little like this:

Following on from the popularity of our most recent Strictly Support Group Champion of Champions, we’ve decided to host a sports special! Over the past 13 series of Strictly there have been some memorable sportsmen and sportswomen who have taken to the floor. Some have proven to have a natural flair, whereas others have struggled and worked hard throughout their Strictly journey.

We know how you all love to vote, so we’re giving you the chance to vote for the people you’d like to see competing in our Champion of Champions competition.

All you need to do is vote for the 5 couples you’d most like to see battle to be crowned Strictly Support Group Champion of Sports Champions. Voting will remain open until next Sunday at 6pm. The top ten couples will then compete to be crowned Champion of Champions.

We’ll then have a short break (as it’ll be Strictly Day) before we’ll officially start the competition on the 22nd May! You can vote once a day for the 5 couples you’d most like to see competing in this sports special!

Get voting folks!

Strictly Support Group – A Sizzling Barbecue Chat!

The sun is shining, it’s the weekend and summer is well and truly in the air. What could be a better way to enjoy the weather than with a summer barbecue? Well, we couldn’t make you all a barbecue, so tonight we hosted a Barbecue-themed chat!

We began our chat by asking:

All good barbecues have lots of sizzle. Which Strictly dance has the most sizzle and what made it so hot?

We had some brilliant answers. Here are some of our favourites:

We then moved our chat on to ask:

Which Barbecue food or side dish most reminds you of Strictly and why? (Apologies if we give you food envy!)

With our mouths watering, we then asked the following question:

Here are some of your brilliant answers:

We agreed with Jo! Even if it did mean that everyone will get a sore back the whole strictly team really deserve a pat on the back for producing uh-may-zing television!

For our next question, we asked you this:

You unanimously agreed that this sight was the rarest sight on Strictly. Don’t adjust your screens, this is real and not a figment of your imagination:

We then asked you to tell fill in the blanks in the following sentence:

A barbecue isn’t a barbecue without ___________ like Strictly isn’t Strictly without _______________.

Here are some of your brilliant answers and suggestions:

For our penultimate question, we asked you You’re hosting a barbecue and can invite one strictly person. Who would be your dream barbecue guest?

Here are some of your brilliant answers:

For our final question of the night, we asked this:

Here were some of your brilliant suggestions:

That ended our chat for the evening! Thank you all for taking part. We hope you enjoyed it.

We’re back tomorrow (Sunday) from 7.30pm to launch our Strictly Support Group Champion of Champions. We hope to see you then!

Strictly Support Group – Patience is a Virtue

My 6 year old Strictly superfan is a very happy little girl 99% of the time, but this morning whilst getting ready for school she burst into tears. When I asked her what was wrong, she tearfully told me “I can’t wait anymore mummy. I need to know which pros are on Strictly. I’m only 6 and it’s been too long!”

Her feelings echoed what I and many of you have been feeling over the past few weeks. We are very patient fans and cope for 9 months without Strictly on our telly boxes, but we’re so excited to hear which pros are on the show we can’t wait anymore:

It’d seem we’re not alone and some of the professionals feel the same way too:

Fear not my friends! Here at the Strictly Support Group, we’ve come up with some ingenious ways to make the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the professional dancers are revealed go even faster! Here they are:

1) Do a little dance when you’re feeling impatient!

I have been known to dance on underground platforms whilst waiting for the tube during rush hour. Dancing makes you smile and also makes days feel like minutes and minutes feel like nano-seconds!

2) Relive some of your favourite Strictly moments.

Here at the Strictly Support Group we bring you daily dance fixes, and we regularly watch some of our favourite Strictly moments over and over and over when we are pining for our favourite show! DWTS is currently on in America and on YouTube there are many fantastic dance fixes we can watch. Watching these will also help the wait go even quicker!

3) Play a game of Guess the new professionals or Strictly Bingo!

We already know that 4 professional dancers will not be returning to Strictly 2016. It’s got us speculating which wonderful dancers will take their places in 2016. There are many dancers we’d love to see take to the Strictly dancefloor as professional dancers this year. We may even start a game of Strictly Professional Bingo to see whether our predictions come true.

4) Take part in some of our Uh-May-Zing May activities

As well as our weekly chats and quizzes, this month we’ll also be hosting the 3rd Strictly Day, the day when we celebrate Strictly’s birthday. This year Srictly turns 12, so we’ll have games, chats and the chance to win prizes too. We’ll also see the start our next Strictly Support Group Champion of Champions which is bound to take our minds off the impending news.

5) Remember that all good things come to those who wait

As I told my little girl this morning, a rushed decision may not be the right decision, so this wait will just be Strictly’s way of making sure the perfect professionals are on the show. All good things come to those who wait. Yes, they may be testing our patience but it’ll be worth it in the long run. Cast your minds back to the furore that happened when the professionals were revealed in 2014 and last year when a certain professional wasn’t even given a thank you for their efforts on the show. These reveals happened in April, so by waiting hopefully *crosses her fingers, legs, toes (and eyes)*  the correct decision for the professionals, the show and us the fans will be made!

Whatever happens, we know the announcement for the Strictly 2016 professional dancers will be soon! As soon as we get a glimmer, glitter or shimmer of  news we will let you know!

What are your coping mechanisms for surviving the long wait until the professionals are revealed? Let us know by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you.
