Despite being a jetsetter over the past 48 hours, this evening my little girl, Bella declared:
Mummy, watching Strictly isn’t the same without you here!
I took this as a subliminal message that it was her turn to watch the Strictly Prom for the second time and a chance for me to enjoy this sparkly event! After all, Strictly is always best shared with the family!
So, what did I think about it? Well I loved it! Here are 10 reasons why I thought it was so fab-u-lous!
Number 1) The whole atmosphere was truly electric. Even sitting at home on my sofa, I could feel the energy of the audience at the Royal Albert Hall. The BBC Concert Orchestra were truly magnificent and brought all the music to life!
Number 2) We got to relive 2 of the magical Team Derbeke routines, which just happened to be my favourite routines (their Quickstep and Viennese Waltz.) Admittedly, Anton was off celebrating his birthday, but Aljaz stepped in and he and Katie performed these dances beautifully. It was magical and brought back lots of wonderful memories of Strictly 2015!
Number 3) The costumes were (as always where Strictly is concerned) stunning. We loved the green Charleston dresses and Joanne’s beautiful Tango Dress. Yes, we had a wardrobe malfunction at the end, but these things are unavoidable sometimes and Mrs C coped wonderfully!
Number 4) Who could forget the wonderful professional dancers? We had 6 of our favourites all one one stage, performing some of our all-time favourite dances! We had Joanne, Karen and Kevin Clifton as well as Giovanni Pernice, Aljaz Skorjanec and Janette Manrara. These 6 light up the Strictly ballroom and lit up the Royal Albert Hall with their brilliant performances. What more could you ask for on a Saturday night? We always love the pro dances, as it’s a chance for the pros to show their true ability, and in this prom they got the chance to showcase their ability.
Number 5) The glitterball which made the Royal Albert Hall ever so sparkly!
Number 6) Some comic moments including members of the orchestra turning into judges, and Gavin the conductor becoming Len!
Number 7) The choreography! Jason Gilkison is a true choreographic genius. Enough said!
Number 8) The Paso! Possibly the most fierce and awesome Paso Doble we have ever seen on Strictly! Karen and Kevin created so much passion, atmosphere and energy that we felt we were in Seville at a real bullfight! We also loved Karen’s outfit and my little girl declared “When I grow up I want to be like Karen!”
Number 9) That Rumba! The dance of love performed by lovebirds Janette and Aljaz. It tugged at our heartstrings, made us emotional blubbering messes on the sofa and was soft, balletic and just beautiful! I think Aljaz made us even more emotional declaring “it’s wonderful dancing rumba with someone you love!” *heart melts*
Number 10) The extremely funny but brilliantly cheeky Charleston which had us in fits of giggles as the very lucky Janette and Joanne (who are not just brilliant dancers but great actresses too) fought for the affections of Aljaz, Kevin and Giovanni (I’m going to nickname them the Strictly Musketeers!)
