๐ŸŽ‡ Strictly Support Group ๐ŸŽ‡ – A New Year’s Celebration Chat

It’s New Year’s Eve and tonight we hosted our last Strictly Support Group chat of 2016 with a New Year Celebration Chat.

We grabbed a glass of something fizzy and sat down for what was a truly fab-u-lous and sparkly chat!

We began our chat by asking you to tell usย What have been your Strictly related highlights of 2016?ย We were asking for you to tell us moments that weren’t just related to this series of Strictly, but also moments which were related to the year as a whole. Here are some of your wonderful suggestions:

It’s not surprising, but Ed Balls featured highly in your answers. He did provide entertainment value and was a delight to watch each week this year on Strictly.

For our next question we asked you this:

We love a good New Year’s party. Nothing says a New Year’s Party more than a Fireworks Display and a bottle of something Fizzy. Which Strictly moments from this year, reminded you most of these items?ย Here are some of your suggestions:

We loved these suggestions. An important part of New Year is making a New Year’s Resolution! My 6 year old has vowed to Dance more in 2017. We asked you to tell us your Strictly New Year’s Resolutions. Here are some of your wonderful ideas:

We then moved on to ask you to tell usย three words which have summed up this year in the world of Strictly for you.ย We had some wonderful ideas. Here are some of our favourites:

We loved these suggestions. For our penultimate question we asked you to tell us your hopes for Strictly in 2017! Here are some of your wonderful ideas:

For our final question, we asked you to tell us which celebrities you’d like to see take part on Strictly 2017. We had some great suggestions from you. Here are some of them:

That ended tonight’s chat. Thank you all for taking part. If you missed out tonight, don’t fear, you can still take part by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. On behalf of all the Strictly Support Group, we wish you all a very Happy and Healthy 2017.

Strictly – The Things That 2016 Taught us!

We are just hours away from the end of 2016. It’s been a year of shocks and surprises, on and off the ballroom floor, from Ed Balls and that Gangnam Salsa to early and shock eliminations! Here’s what 2016 has taught us:

1. ย The Tango is a really tough dance:

This year saw more eliminations from the tango than ever before. Melvin was eliminated in week 2 after his Tango, Tameka in week 3 after her Tango, Lesley in week 5 after her Tango and it got us in a bit of a muddle (mango of a tango!) especially as the Tango is one of our favourite ballroom dances. These three couples had a lot more to give, especially Melvin and Janette, but Justice was restored when they lifted the Christmas Glitter(ball) star!

2. It is possible to do the Salsa to Gangnam Style and if you do it will be remembered forever.

When we heard some of the song choices this year they did make us wonder what dances we were going to see. One particular example was Gangnam Style, for the Salsa ๐Ÿค”. We do have the best professional dances on planet earth (and planet strictly come to think of it) and Katya’s choreography (as well as Ed’s hard work and dancing) made this one of our favourite routines of the series. Here it is again in case you needed a reminder.

3. Dance-offs and Results shows can surprise and shock us.

Yes, here at Strictly Support Group HQ we had many tears during results show this year. It probably didn’t help that we loved absolutely every single couple on this year’s show and saying goodbye became very tough, week after week. The standard on this year’s strictly was higher than ever, so it made the competition even closer. It made us realise that our favourites really did need our votes to be saved week after week.

4. Kevin Clifton is a Choreography and Teaching Genius!

We can always rely on Kevin from Grimsby to treat us to some awesome choreography. His Paso Dobles have been legendary over the 4 years he has worked on Strictly. This year, we had more Kevin from Grimsby specials as he yet again got all the way to the final. That’s 4 years in a row. His choreography was inspired and really impressed us. Sadly he did not lift the glitterball (it went to his sister instead, but my 6 year old is hoping they’ll share it nicely.) 4 finals in a row! Surely that has to be a record deserving of a Glitterball!

5. 2016 was the year of daring lifts and tricks

We’d seen lifts and tricks but never lifts and tricks like these ever before. The professionals all pushed the bar really high with their choreography and challenged their celebrities to perform to their best. We did have an Olympic Gymnast in the cast which probably helped with the tricks part, but many of them surprised and amazed us. In case you hadn’t seen them before, have a look at our favourites, in this moment from our twitter feed:

6. It was time for Craig to have someone to answer back to!

Yes, Judge Rinder came, danced and conquered the Strictly dancefloor. His reaction to Craig Revel Horwood’s comments were worth the licence fee alongand really unmissable. It was good having a contestant who was willing to answer back especially when the judges were grumpy!

7. It may have been Len’s last series but that didn’t stop his magic!

The King of Strictly has officially left the Strictly ballroom. *sobs* We will really miss him, but even if it was his last year we did have many a “ten from Len” and threats of pickled walnuts throughout this series. We wish him good luck in his future ventures in the USofA and we wish whoever takes over from him a lot of sparkly good luck as they have Len-shaped shoes to fill!

8. A record-breaking year

2016 was a record breaking year for Strictly. Not only did it get the highest audience share and its highest viewing figures but we saw the highest scoring dances ever! We saw the first ever perfect scoring Samba from Danny and Oti and the highest scoring week 4 dance ever from Ore and Joanne (it scored 39.) Even Ed Balls achieved the highest lowest score in week 7 for his quickstep scoring 27 points!

9. It was the year of dance crazes!

We had Ed doing Gangnam Style and Strictly attempting this mannequin challenge on the Christmas Special! Pure television magic again from the wonderful Strictly team!

10. It is perfectly possible to get a perfect score for the Samba

Until this year, we thought it was impossible to get a perfect score for the samba. Then along came Danny and Oti who wowed us and the Judges with a truly brilliant routine, that got 10s across the board. (It also saved us from eating one of our hats) We have to credit Oti this year for bringing some truly incredible choreography to the show. She deserves a glitterball in her own right. We hope she comes back next year.

11. Bruno can stay on his chair for the whole series (well almost)

Yes this year, Mr Tonioli remained firmly seated in his chair *wonders if he got given a seatbelt or a harness* right up until the final when he fell off his chair! We are quite glad of this as we’d hate for him to hurt himself.

12. Never trust Claudia to hold onto something you give her.

Claudia and Tess and their antics always brighten up our Saturday nights during Strictly season. This year, a common theme emerged. Claudia seemed to drop every prop she was asked to hold onto! ย We loved these comedy sketches which always made us laugh!

13. Strictly is the best show on TV ever!

Nothing will ever come between us and Strictly. There may have been shocks and surprises this year, but we have to say 2016 has been the best year ever! Thank you for all the memories Strictly and ย here’s to many more in 2017!

So, what has 2016 taught you about Strictly? Tell us by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you.

We’ll be on twitter (@scd_support) ย from 7pm tonight for our first Strictly Support Group post-strictly. Yes, it’s going to be a new year themed chat!

Hope to see you then.

We began the evening by asking you to tell us your favourite Strictly Snacks and which snacks you would serve if it were your party. We had some brilliant suggestions. Here are some of our favourites:

We hear the next snack is Darcey’s Strictly Snack of choice:

Now, we had our Strictly Snacks sorted, it was time for us to invite some sparkly friends for the occasion. For our next question, we asked you to tell us who would be on your sparkly Guestlist. Here are your answers:

For our third question, we asked you to tell us which dances you would include on your party playlist to help you celebrate. Overwhelmingly you voted for aย Charleston, a Jive and a Salsa.ย We love these ideas and think they would definitely get a party started.

Next on our list was entertainment. All parties need some form of party game. We asked you to tell us who you thought would be best atย Twisterย andย Musical Statues.ย Here are your suggestions:

Strictly Support Group Turns 3 – A Message for you! ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿป๐ŸŒ

We can hardly believe it ourselves! We’ve gone past the terrible twos. 3 years ago today we set up the Strictly Support Group.

It started as a way of trying to cheer up my little girl, then 3, who had well and truly caught the Strictly bug and was suffering some serious withdrawal symptoms. Now, said little girl is 6, a big sister and one of Strictly’s youngest superfans.

When I set up this page, it wasn’t long before I realised that we were not alone and many of your wonderful people missed the show too!

I just wanted to say a massive Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support over the past 3 years. I have said it before and will say it again, but I really could not run this page if it wasn’t for your support. You have helped make  chats a lot of fun and really embraced the glitter during and post-strictly season.

A lot has happened in the last few years and the Strictly Support Group has grown with us all. One thing that will always stay the same is that Strictly fans are the kindest, loveliest and most sparkly fans in the world. You are truly awesome and should give yourselves a pat on the back.

I also wanted to say a special thank you to all those of you who have contributed in some way to our page over the past 3 years, whether that be taking part in chats, writing a blog post or doing something else. You know who you are!

There’ll be more great fun in the New Year on top of our daily dance fixes! Here’s to the next 3 years (and more!)

Tonight we’ll also have our third birthday party. There will be (virtual) cake, sparkles and dancing! Join us from 8pm to celebrate.

We look forward to tweeting with you there.

Strictly 2016 – Sev-ern reasons we’ll miss Len “Sev-ern” Goodman!

Tonight saw the Strictly legend that is Len Goodman put his Head Judge crown on for the last time, when he lead the judging panel for the final time in the Strictly Christmas special.

Over the past 12 years, Len has become the judge all our couples want to impress. His knowledge have come to help us choose who to vote for when the competition has been very close.

We will really miss Len and tonight shed many a tear whilst watching the Strictly Christmas Special. Here are the reasons we’ll miss Len and the things we’ll remember him for most. It’s what we’re calling Len’s Legacy:

1. His Knowledge

Len really does know his fleckerls from his standing spins and you can always count on him to be looking at technique in the performance. The other judges are brilliant and look at different aspects, but Len will always go back to his ballroom and latin roots and stick to what he knows best. He helps Strictly feel more like a ballroom/latin competition and is the judge couples want to impress, because of his knowledge.

2. He is a traditionalist

We do love all the snazzy performances, but love nothing more than a traditional foxtrot. Len is just the same and will always give couples credit for doing traditional routines rather than “faffing around!” We love good old fashioned dancing and hope whoever replaces him does just the same too! To quote Len, he is a cup of tea in a world of lattes.

3. He gives constructive criticism.

Where as some judges (no names mentioned) can be mean to couples and pull their routines apart, you can always count on Len to be the voice of reason. He will always praise couples for what they did well rather than criticising what went wrong in the routine. He is always there to stand up for couples when other judges may be less than complimentary and we admire him for that.

4. His Len-isms

Everyone wants to hear a Len-ism. He has a way with words which never fails to make us smile.  We don’t like pickled walnuts as a treat, but do love hearing him threaten to pickle his walnuts. We also love him telling us phrases like “winner winner chicken dinner!” Everyone wants to get a Ten from Len!

5. His calmness

Having sat next to the live wire that is Bruno Tonioli, we love Len’s patience. Many a time Bruno has flapped and fallen off his chair, but Len has always remained calm and is completely unflappable!

6. His Honesty

A good judge must always be honest and Len is just that! He speaks his mind and will always tell couples (in a nice way) when he likes/does not like something. We admire this character in his personality. He is the judge that couples know will always speak his mind.

7. His Scoring

Everyone wants to get a 10 from Len or a Sev-ern and they have become legendary on Strictly. They are scores couples aspire to achieve and we will miss him scoring our couples dancing. On a plus note, tonight, during the Christmas Special he gave a total of 6 tens!

Farewell to Mr Sev-ern, Len Goodman and thank you for all you have done on Strictly over the past 12 years. We will really miss Len next year. What will you miss most about him? Tell us by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Strictly 2016 – A Christmas Special Round-Up

We’re not sure about you, but Santa has been very generous to us this year. Not only were we treated to some marvellous Strictly gifts in our stocking, but this evening we sat down to watch three of our favourite things combined:

Narnia

Christmas Movies and

Strictly!

Yes, the wonderful folk at Strictly  treated us to a Christmas Movie themed Christmas Special. Not only was there amazing dancing, we also saw Len give every couple a 10, Craig dressed as the most adorable lion you’d ever seen and we saw Len dance for the last time on the Strictly dancefloor *sobs*

We always love the Christmas specials, especially when they bring back celebrities from past series of the show and tonight was no exception.

We saw Denise Lewis (Series 2,) Gethin Jones (Series 5,) Pamela Stephenson (Series 8,) Frankie Bridge (Series 12,) Ainsley Harriott (Series 13) and Melvin Odoom (Series 14) take to the floor with 6 of our fab-u-lous professionals for a true Christmas Cracker of a show.

We were treated to a Home Alone Jive from Ainsley and Karen which reminded us how much joy Ainsley’s performances brought us and also took us back to the Strictly tour earlier this year.

We were also treated to a Polar Express Quickstep from Chloe and Gethin, which not only showed us what an amazing dancer Gethin us but has also started a campaign for next series #GetChloeaCelebrityPartner.

Pamela and Pasha performed a cheeky Love Actually themed Christmas Cha Cha Cha. It reminded us how much we loved watching Pamela, a natural performer and dancer.

Melvin and Janette then proved they are the cutest Elfs this side of Planet Strictly, with an Elf-themed Charleston. It was full of character and personality and showed Melvin’s full potential. It also proved that they are completely fearless with a lift that became our Christmas GIF:

https://twitter.com/scd_support/status/813114123294744576

Finally Gorka and Frankie treated us to a Frozen themed American Smooth. Frankie was always graceful and a beautiful ballroom dancer and this performance showed off her skill as a performer and dancer. It was truly stunning and the icing on a Christmas cake of a wonderful night of dancing.

It was a very close call, but in the end Melvin and Janette triumphed and lifted the Strictly Christmas Mirrorball trophy.

It was Len’s last show too which lead to an impressive tribute and final routine to send him off in style.

We’ll leave you with this thought:

That moment you lose a bet and have to go out dressed like this!

Strictly 2016 – 3 Words!

Three words haveย filled our Saturday nights for the last few months:

Strictly

Come

Dancing

and we can hardly believe that tomorrow night will be the Strictly 2016 Final!

Earlier today we asked you to tell us the three words that have summed up Strictly 2016 for you! For us it has to be these three words:

czzmnptwqaeujhu

Here are your fab-u-lous suggestions:

So those are the three words which sum up Strictly for you! We can honestly say that this series of Strictly has been the most epic series ever. Whatever happens tomorrow, we want to say Thank You Strictly for all the memories.

It has been emotional, but I’ll leave you with three words from my little girl, Bella, earlier when I asked her to tell me which words have summedย up Strictly for her:
