Strictly Support Group – The Election Results!

As the nation is swept by election fever, we have been suffering from Electionitis (a desire to vote on every single subject) and in true Strictly Support Group style, decided to host our own Election with added glitter and strictlified-ness. We gave everyone the chance to vote, and you all did. Understandably, my 5 year old found this election a lot more interesting than the General Election (polling stations need more colouring in books in her opinion!)

Once polling had ended, our team counted and verified your votes. Whilst we were doing this, we asked you a few questions. Our first question was which politician would you like to see on Strictly? You overwhelmingly said you’d like to see Boris Johnson take part in the show. Having watched him dance before, we know he has rhythm so would love to see him on Strictly!

Our next question was if you were elected Prime Minister, what strictly promise would you pledge to all your supporters? We had some wonderful suggestions, of which these two were our favourites:

We’d love both these things to happen. *clicks red glittery shoes together hoping Strictly producers read this.*

It was then time to reveal the results. In true Strictly Support Group style, just like sunday night Strictly results shows, we cued tense music and spotlights before revealing your leaders of the opposition, deputy prime ministers and prime minister of the Strictly Support Group General Election 2015. Here are the results in picture form:

Congratulations to Susanna and Kevin, Chris and Ola, Sophie and Brendan and Kristina and Simon on being elected into the Strictly Support Group parliament! Don’t worry, you don’t have to pass any laws, you’ll just be remembered for these fabulous dances in the Strictly Support Group Hall Of Fame.

Thank you to all who voted in our General Election! We’re back on Saturday from 7.30pm when I’ll be bravely letting my 5yr old take over to host our Strictly Support Group. We hope you can join us then.

Strictly Support Group – The Election (Day 7!) Polling Day is Here!

Earlier this morning, we revealed our final two candidates in our Strictly Support Group General Election! We love the Charleston and today’s two candidates were pure gold! One triumphed for having a cool, laid-back vibe and the other was quirky, cheeky and pure entertainment! They are Sophie and Brendan’s and Chris and Ola’s fab-u-lous Charlestons!

Watching these dances, it’s easy to see why they both deserve their places in the Election:

1) Every election needs a peoples’ champion, and this dance helped Chris and Ola win Strictly 2009. It was cheeky, quirky and captured Chris’s personality perfectly. Both he and Ola looked adorable, in fact more adorable than your favourite politician holding a baby or a puppy or a kitten or something cute!

2) Being a politician is all about remaining cool under pressure and Sophie and Brendan did this perfectly. There

were risky lifts, acrobatics and super fast choreography. All of these were performed perfectly in WEEK 2! The whole routine was brilliant and is deserving of a place in our election for being the leader of the pack. We loved both of them and hope you will too, so here are both dances we showed earlier:

Sophie and Brendan’s Charleston

Chris and Ola’s Charleston.

Now you’ve seen all our dances, here’s a reminder of the candidates (in video form):

You’ve watched and now all that needs to be done is to vote. We are pleased to reveal that voting is now OPEN! *Does a dance like our pros do on Claud 9* You have until 3pm tomorrow to cast your vote for our Strictly Support Group Prime Minister. Just choose your favourite from the poll below. We’ll reveal the result tomorrow evening from 7pm. Get voting people!

Strictly Support Group – The Election, Day 6!

It’s Tango Tuesday today and Day 6 of our General Election. There are lots of similarities between the General Election and the Tango. Both are filled with drama, tension and agression. They are a fight for survival of the fittest and today’ s Tango Tuesday fix is the leader of the pack! In fact, even Simba feels threatened, it was so good:

“Wow! They’re roarsome. I could never do that with my two left feet!”

Don’t fear Simba, you may not be an amazing dancer but you are an amazing hunter. Today’s candidates however are amazing dancers and this Tango IS the best tango of series 12! We’re watching Simon Webbe and Kristina Rihanoff’s brilliant Argentine Tango from Blackpool last year.

There are several reasons we have chosen this dance as a candidate in the Strictly Support Group General Election:

1) It had more mood, atmosphere, tension and passion than Prime Minister’s question time!

2) The choreography and dancing were fab-u-lous and prize winning. When it was performed at the tour it helped them win the Strictly Tour 2015 trophy.

3) It showed what a strong partnership they were. The death drop takes skill, trust and a lot of practise. Kristina put a lot of trust in Simon and it paid off!

We loved this dance and hope you will too. Here are Simon and Kristina with their amazing Argentine Tango:

We’d love to hear what you thought of this routine. Were you team Sytina fans and would they get your vote? What made them such a strong partnership for you? Let us know by commenting below or tweeting @scd_support. We’d love to hear from you.

So Simon and Kristina join Susanna and Kevin, Gethin and Camilla, Mark and Iveta, Alesha and Matthew and Chelsee and Pasha as candidates in the Strictly Support Group General Election. Join us tomorrow for our final candidates and the start of our polling day to crown your Prime Ministers

Strictly Support Group – The Election (Day 5!)

What do you get if you mix one of the most iconic ballrooms of the world with traditional music and choreography? *hears her brain cogs making a funny noise* Easy! The best ever Paso Doble to have ever been performed at Blackpool  on Strictly Come Dancing, ever!

We couldn’t run a Strictly Support Group General Election without a journalist, so the 5th Candidate in our Ballroom General Election is The Paso Doble from Susanna Reid and Kevin Clifton!

There are several reasons we have chosen this dance as one of our candidates in the election:

1) It was record-breaking – the applause from the crowd broke the loudest ever applause heard on British TV

2) It is, in our opinion the best ever Paso Doble to have been performed on Strictly – It had great music, choreography, drama, passion, story-telling, all the atmosphere of a Spanish bullfight and Kevin from Grimsby in very tight trousers 😍 What more could you ask for from a dance on Strictly?

3) It was our favourite routine of Strictly 2013 and showed how much Susanna had progressed from day 1. It also showed that Kevin is an awesome teacher and choreographer. It really deserved 4 10’s in our opinion (take note Mr Revel Horwood!)

We loved it and hope you will too! Here are Susanna Reid and Kevin from Grimsby with their wonderful Paso Doble:

We hope you enjoyed watching that dance and would love to hear what you thought of it. You can tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

So Susanna and Kevin join Gethin and Camilla, Mark and Iveta, Alesha and Matthew and Chelsee and Pasha as candidates in our Strictly Support Group Election. Who will be the final two candidates? Join us tomorrow to find out.

Strictly Support Group – The Election (Day 4)

We’re making the most of the pre-election Bank Holiday weekend today, with the fourth candidate for our Strictly Support Group Election.

Today’s Smooth Sunday comes from Gethin Jones and Camilla Dallerup. Although they left in the semi-finals of Strictly 2007, we felt they were both worthy contenders for the glitterball and today’s dance showed us just why.

For a male celebrity, learning to lead their female professional across the ballroom floor can be the most challenging part of Strictly, and Gethin mastered this brilliantly.

The routine was soft, elegant and flowing. It made us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Camilla’s choreography was perfect for Gethin’s strengths and the music and costumes were brilliant too.

We loved this routine and hope you will too. Here are Gethin and Camilla with their fab-u-lous American Smooth:

Don’t forget to let us know what you thought of that dance. You can tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

So, Gethin and Camilla join Mark and Iveta, Alesha and Matthew and Chelsee and Pasha as candidates in the Strictly Support Group election. Who will be tomorrow’s candidates? Come back tomorrow to find out. On Wednesday afternoon, we’ll launch our poll giving you all the chance to vote for your Strictly Support Group Prime Minister(s.)

Strictly Support Group – The Election (Day 3)

It’s the weekend *does a little dance* and we know the only way to celebrate the start of the weekend is with a Salsa!

It’s also Day 3 of our Strictly Support Group Election. Politics can be boring, but where the Strictly Support Group is concerned, we beg to differ. We’re here to make this General Election fun for all!

For the 3rd dance in our Strictly Support Group Election we’ve chosen this crowd-pleaser and fun routine from Mark Benton and Iveta Lukosiute.

We loved this routine when we saw it on TV but loved it even more seeing it on the tour in 2014. It was pure entertainment. For performance value alone, it deserved a 10 paddle from the judges. It summed up what strictly is all about, having fun whilst learning something new. It made the nation smile and fall in love with Mark and Iveta as a partnership. It may not have been the highest scoring dance on the night, but it truly deserves to be a candidate in the Strictly Support Group Election.

We loved it and hope you will too. Here are Mark and Iveta with their fab-u-lously fun Salsa.

We’d love to hear what you thought of this routine. Let us know by commenting below or tweeting @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you.

So, Mark and Iveta have joined Alesha and Matthew and Chelsee and Pasha as candidates in the Strictly Support Group Election. Who will join them tomorrow? Watch this space to find out!

Strictly Support Group – The Election (Part 2)

*Practises her best geordie accent* Day two in the Strictly Support Group Election. *Coughs, reverting back to her London roots* It’s Day two in the Strictly Support Group Election, and it’s also Friday which means one thing, it’s time for your weekly Foxtrot fix.

When looking through the archives we came across this beautiful dance from Strictly 2007 champion, Alesha DIxon and Matthew Cutler. It gave us goosebumps, made our eyes leak (a little) and showed Alesha was a true contender. Even though the dance didn’t quite go to plan, they made it work and as the audience, we didn’t even notice, which in itself is pretty amazing.

The whole routine looked effortless, ethereal and elegant. We loved this dance and hope you will too. Here are Alesha and Matthew with their fab-u-lous Foxtrot. We hope you enjoy it:

We’d love to hear what you thought of this routine. You can tweet us @scd_support or comment below to let us know.

So the second dance in our election has been chosen. Alesha and Matthew’s Foxtrot joins Chelsee and Pasha’s Quickstep as candidates for the Strictly Support Group Election. Who will join them tomorrow? Keep an eye on here and on twitter to find out.

Strictly Support Group – The Election!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, you probably know we are a week away from going to the polls for the General Election 2015!

Here at the Strictly Support Group, we love a poll to decide the answers to those tough questions and to crown an overall winner.

We’ve decided to launch our very own Strictly Support Group General Election! Over the next 7 days, we’ll show you some of our all-time favourite dances. Next Thursday we’ll give you all the chance to vote for your ultimate favourite. We’ll then reveal the winner and Prime Minister(s) of the Strictly Support Group!

Today, we’re watching Chelsee Healey and Pasha Kovalev dance their first-class Quickstep! When we first saw this dance back in 2011 we loved it. The story-telling was great, the choreography even better and the dancing was magnificent! It made us want to sing, sing, sing, sing (and vote) from the rooftops it was that great. It even scored 36 points in week 4 of the competition and showed that these two were true contenders.

We loved it and hope you will too. Here are Chelsee and Pasha with their fab-u-lous first class quickstep:

Now you’ve seen that dance we’d love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. Are you Team Chelsee and Pasha? What made them so great a partnership for you? Let us know, we’d love to hear from you.

We’ll be back tomorrow for the next candidate in our Strictly Support Group General Election!
