Smooth Sunday – The Very First Strictly Support Group American Smooth-Off!

Today just happens to be International Women’s’ Day! We know that on Strictly there have been many inspirational ladies who have performed over the years.  Today is a chance to celebrate this special occasion, and in true Strictly Support Group Style, we’re showing you not one, but two American Smooths from two wonderful ladies.

We’re hosting another Strictly Support Group Dance-Off. This time, it’s the battle of the American Smooths. We’re showing you two fab-u-lous dances. The first one is from Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna. The second American Smooth is from Natalie Gumede and Artem Chigvintsev. In our opinion, these are two of the best American Smooths ever performed on Strictly. In fact, they’re both so good, we can’t decide so need your help to choose the ultimate winner!

Once you’ve watched both these dances, just vote in the poll below. We’ll reveal the winner at 8pm tonight!

Monday Memory – A Tour Dance We’re Very Proud Of!

*sings* We’re rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ on a river *starts jiving around like a lunatic*

This morning, we’ll happily admit that this dance worked better than our alarm clock and it helped us spring out of bed ready for the day ahead.

Everyday this week, we’re showing you some of our favourite Tour memories of all time. Today’s is a true treat which’ll make you smile!

Although we never got to watch this dance on the live show, watching it on the tour was worth the wait. It was a dance that made us truly proud of the wonderful world of Strictly. It was fast, fun, fab-u-lous, flawless and a fringe-filled fiesta of dancing delight!

Today we’re watching the wonderful Jive from Natalie and Artem. We truly loved this dance and hope you will too. Here they are with this wonderful dance:

We hope you enjoyed watching that dance and would love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Showdance Sunday

*Checks the Strictly Support Group rule book* Sundays are normally Smooth Sundays where you show an American Smooth. *rips up said rule book*

This week, I’ve decided to change the rules and show a Showdance in honour of last night’s fab-u-lous final! I’ve chosen Natalie and Artem’s showdance from last year’s final.

This dance was not only technically perfect but featured every dance style imaginable as well as lots of jumps tricks and poles. Natalie looked stunning in green which is an achievement in itself. On a more slightly serious note, it left us grinning like the Cheshire Cat.

So, here it is, just for you Natalie and Artem’s fab-u-lous showdance. We hope you enjoy it:

We’d love to hear what you thought of this dance. Tweet @scd_support or comment below. We’re also hosting a poll to find your favourite showdance. Just vote below and we’ll reveal the results on Tuesday after 7.30pm:

Smooth Sunday – We think we’ve flooded the tower ballroom

Last night, I judged a talent show competition and being the hormonal person I am right now (blame the little lady inside me!) I did cry a lot! If I had been judging Strictly, I’m pretty sure I’d have flooded the Tower Ballroom so it’s just as well I wasn’t. From what my lovely 4yr old told me, it was a-may-zing and our couples dazzled and shone like sparkly glitterballs.

As it’s still officially Blackpool weekend, today we’re watching a dance that may make you a tad emotional. It may even make you Cry a River. We’re watching Kara and Artem’s amazing American Smooth from 2010. Although Len didn’t like it, we loved Artem’s unique choreography and felt Tango really suited an American Smooth. It had tension, romance a floaty nature and great lifts. Not only did they perform it brilliantly but Artem was injured too!

For us this dance scored a 10. We loved it and hope you will too. Here are Kara and Artem with their American Smooth:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. Tweet us @scd_support, comment below or like! share or comment on our new Facebook Page (Strictly Support Group!)

We’re here later for a results show chat. Hope you can join us then.

Have a great afternoon.

Spooky Saturday – Our Top 10 Halloween Routines

This weekend, we’ve ditched the Samba and Salsa and turned it into *clenches teeth and grabs hold of teddy bear in fear* Spooky Saturday! In honour of Strictly’s Halloween special, we’ve dedicated a post to revealing our top 10 Halloween inspired dances.

10. Thriller Group Routine (2012)

No Halloween list would be complete without the obligatory Thriller performance! We love group routines and this one is one of our favourites (partly because we could dance along at home!) The pros and celebrities all looked fierce and we’d have been terrified if we’d saw them on Halloween!

9. Hairy Biker Dave and Karen’s Jive (2013)

Although he wasn’t technically the best dancer, this is a truly memorable routine in my household. My 4 year old loved it, as (in her words) “Dave looked like a Panda!” 🐼 Karen choreographed this to play to Dave’s strengths and his performance was brilliant. He truly did the Monster Mash and it was not just a Graveyard Smash, but a smash with the viewing public at home!

8. Holly and Artem’s American Smooth (2011)

This wasn’t very Halloween themed, but Artem’s balletic choreography was unique and fitted in perfectly with the Swan Lake theme. It was a truly memorable routine which we loved and it’ll certainly go down in history as one of our favourite ever Halloween routines.

7. Kimberley and Pasha’s Pasha Doble (2012)

As you know from last week, we love a good Pasha Doble! The red riding hood concept behind this dance was brilliant, and Pasha definitely made an adorable wolf! The choreography was challenging and Kimberley performed it brilliantly. It was powerful, passionate and perfect for the Halloween show.

6. Time Warp Routine (2013)

Let’s just embrace the madness that is Halloween for a moment and pay tribute to this fantastic dance! It was completely crazy, but Strictly does crazy in such a way it is brilliant and we love it. Combining all our celebrities, pro dancers and judges on the floor at the same time was a brilliant idea. The choreography once again could be followed along at home making us feel part of the show and extra special! What more could you ask for on a Saturday?

5. Susanna and Kevin’s Charleston (2013)

Kevin as a werewolf was worth paying the TV licence alone! Enough said. On a more serious note, this dance was pure brilliance. Kevin’s choreography was challenging and Susanna performed it amazingly. Even though she managed to get away with not wearing a Halloween disguise we loved it. It was so expressive, so much fun and pure exuberance which only Strictly can do.

4. Strictly Professionals Routine to Toxic (2012)

Imagine being transported to a Halloween Masquerade Ball and this is what you get, a powerful dance with amazing costumes! We love a good bit of Britney, so whoever choreographed this dance gets extra brownie points from us! We loved it and it features all our favourite professional dancers!

3. Harry and Aliona’s Tango (2011)

What do you get when you give a drummer a pair of fangs and some amazing choreography? A vampire tango! We loved this dance and Aliona’s choreography played to Harry’s strengths. The dance was rhythmical, sharp and expertly performed. We loved the maskography and for us it’s in our top 3 routines.

2. Patrick and Anya’s Quickstep (2013)

Being in the dance-off brought this celebrity to life and his Halloween quickstep opened up last year’s show with a bang. Anya’s choreography was intense and Patrick danced the steps perfectly. For us, it was our favourite dance of last year’s Halloween show, followed closely by the werewolf Charleston.

1. Louis and Flavia’s Zombie Tango (2012)

For us nothing says Halloween better than this dance. A graveyard Tango full of delights. Flavia choreographed an impressive Tango routine which Louis performed perfectly (whilst being a zombie!) The dance had plenty of attack and we loved it. It is our all-time favourite Halloween performance!

Now you’ve heard our top ten, we’d love to hear what your favourite routines are. Comment below or tweet us @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you!

Throwback Thursday – A Dance Fit For the Ballet Chosen by @vickimichelle21

On Tuesday, the lovely Vicki won our It Takes Two themed quiz *applauds Vicki.* We think she’s an absolute Strictly Superstar, so gave her the chance to choose her own Strictly Fix today. A little birdy told us she’s also going to see a Ballet today so this dance fits in perfectly.

Vicki chose Holly and Artem’s Black Swan inspired American Smooth. We loved the unique concept and Artem’s creative choreography too. This style had never been seen on Strictly before, and it was well received by the judges. Here’s why Vicki chose this dance:

“I have chosen this dance because it was danced so elegantly and their lines and footwork were magnificent. Their lifts were exquisite and you could see how hard they both worked on this graceful performance. The choice of music was risky but because of Artem’s fabulous choreography it was performed so beautifully. Artem cleverly kept elements of ballet within the routine which worked well with the American smooth. Their costumes and their make up were amazing and worked perfectly well for the Halloween themed week. Every time I watch the Black Swan movie I always think of this stunning American smooth. Of all the American Smooths that have been performed on Strictly this one is by far my favourite.”

We have to agree fully with Vicki, so here are Holly and Artem with their American Smooth:

Thank you Vicki for choosing this as our Throwback Thursday dance. We hope you all enjoyed watching it and would love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Wednesday Warm-Up – A dance to make you jump up and down and scream “Yeah!”

This morning we treated you to one of our favourite Quicksteps from Strictly 2013 when we showed you Natalie and Artem’s gorgeous dance.

This is a dance that can make us smile whatever our mood and however dull or dreary it may be outside. It also makes us feel amazed when we remember that Natalie had badly injured her back, yet still managed to dance this high impact and energy routine to perfection! Now that’s dedication and true professionalism for you! Natalie, we salute you!

It was a truly fabulous dance and one of our favourite dances from last series. It’s a performance that will make you smile and scream yeah! It may also make you jump up and down and will most certainly cure your hump day blues!

Here are Natalie and Artem with their gorgeous quickstep! We hope you enjoy watching it:

Throwback Thursday – A Trip to the Opera which is Hauntingly Good

For today’s throwback Thursday, we took you all the way back to 2010 and to the opera to watch Artem Chigvintsev and Kara Tointon’s super dramatic, Phantom of the Opera themed Paso Doble.

We’re a huge fan of all musicals, especially the Phantom of the Opera and this dance was both dramatic, passionate and romantic. It was hauntingly good and so mysterious it sent shivers down our spine.

The costumes were perfect and Kara looked like a Paso princess. Artem’s mask truly set the scene and added to the atmosphere and mood of the dance.

The music from the Band and singers was stunning and choreography (as ever with Artem) imaginative and creative. We loved this dance and hope you feel the same way too. Here are Artem and Kara with their wonderful, Paso Doble. Enjoy!

Wednesday Warm-Up – A Trip Back in Time to the 1920s

For today’s Wednesday Warm-up, we’re heading back to the 1920s, well almost! We’re going back to Blackpool last year to watch the phenomenal Charleston from Natalie and Artem.

This dance captured the atmosphere of a 1920s speakeasy perfectly and had lots of amazing choreography with tricks, kicks, jumps, cartwheels, acrobatics and the goofiness we love in the Charleston.

Natalie’s dress was amazing and she looked quite the part of a 1920s Flapper Girl. We have to admit it was impossible to tell her and the pro dancers apart as she was amazing.

Credit must also go to Artem for his amazing choreography. We will miss seeing him on the show this year. After watching this dance, we can clearly say our Hump Day blues have been washed away. We really hope you enjoy this dance so here it is just for you, Natalie and Artem’s amazing Charleston:

Wednesday Warm-Up! A chance to cheer you up and celebrate!

Today is Wednesday, which means time for us to relieve your Hump Day blues. Today we felt the need to cheer up all you Robin Fans with a little fix, after hearing Robin Windsor has had to pull out of Strictly 2014 due to a back injury. We now know that Trent Whiddon 😍 has kindly stepped into his place on this year’s show but are gutted he won’t be performing and wish him a very speedy recovery. Here’s a little Robin fix for you all:

We hope this has put a smile on your face, ready for our triple celebration today. We’ve even made cakes! πŸŽ‚πŸŽ‚πŸŽ‚

The first celebration is that it’s Strictly Finalist 2011 Chelsee Healey’s birthday. We couldn’t think of a better dance to show to commemorate the occasion than the famous Pasha Doble (we prefer the sound of the name better to its real name. It might be is probably because Pasha’s name is in it 😍) This dance scored them a perfect score and is still the only Pasha Paso Doble to have ever scored 40 points. It oozed flamenco spirit like a Spanish Orange Grove and made us want to scream “Ole!”

We loved it and hope you will too:

Our second reason to celebrate is because it’s the lovely @jane9668’s birthday. We know you’re a huge Artem Fan, so here’s a party dance just for you…

For our third reason to crack open the champagne and cut a slice of cake, the lovely Karen Hauer and Kevin “from Grimsby” Clifton launched their new website earlier today (www.kevinandkarendance.com.) We’ve had baking day today and with a 4 year old refusing to eat cake, that leaves more for our celebration, which’ll definitely make one of these two pros very happy! We promised we’d make some cakes for their chat on twitter later (follow them to take part) so here’s a pic of the cakes we’ve made just for them and you lovely lot.

If you’re on a diet, don’t worry, it doesn’t count as it’s virtual!

We hope you all have a wickedly warm and wonderful Wednesday whatever you’re doing!
