Strictly Overheards – What do Star Wars and the Strictly Glitterball Have in Common?

Sometimes Kids say the funniest things but also 7 year old logic is officially awesome. Earlier this afternoon, I picked up my wonderful little Strictly fan from school and took her in search of a Father’s Day present for daddy!

Whilst we were out shopping, I caught her staring at a Star Wars Death Star. (My Husband is a huge Star Wars fan – so anything Star Wars related would go down well.)

She grabbed my attention before telling me:

Mummy, the Death Star looks like a Strictly Glitterball but without the sparkly bits on the outside.

Kevin from Grimsby likes Star Wars and did a Star Wars themed Charleston on Strictly, so he made the Death Star sparkly again and made Star Wars all Strictlified. He should really win the Strictly Glitterball this year!

I officially love her logic and thought process!  There you have it, that’s what the Glitterball and a Death Star have in common.

Here are her top seven #Strictly dances of all time (bear in mind she has only watched the show since 2013):

Earlier today she also asked you to tell her your top 7 Strictly Moments! Here are all your suggestions in one handy playlist:

Strictly Support Group – πŸ”Ÿ things we ❀️ about StrictlyπŸ’ƒπŸ»

We’ll put our hands up and proudly admit that we are Strictly Superfans. The other day, Bella asked me “mummy, what are the 10 things you love most about Strictly?”

We sat down to work to decide what really made Strictly so uh-may-zing. Here are our Top 10 things we love about Strictly.

Mummy (Me!) and my 10 things I love about Strictly.

  1. I can share it with all the family –Β I love being able to enjoy Strictly with the kids, as well as with my husband and the rest of our family too. It is a show that appeals to all ages.
  2. The sparkles, the glitz and the glamour –Β As a girly girl, I love all things that sparkle (I am a bit of a magpie and try to grab anything that sparkles when I see it.) The sparkles as well as all the glamour and glitz just act like a magnet and draw me towards my TV screen week after week.
  3. Gorka, PashaΒ All the professional dancers –Β As well as being simply the best dancers (and teachers) in the world they are also inspirational and just the loveliest people ever.
  4. It brings a little bit of joy and sparkle to our d-u-l-l autumn and winter days –Β Let’s face it, autumn and winter would be boring without Strictly. It brightens up even the cloudiest day and never fails to make us smile.
  5. The friends we’ve made –Β Strictly has brought so many like-minded people together from different parts of the country. You know who you are!
  6. Those magical performances which have inspired us –Β Every week there’ll be one moment which leavesΒ us speechless and gives us goosebumps. The dancing is pure perfection, the live band and singers do an incredible job week after week.
  7. The fact that we can make a difference –Β Yes, Craig, you may feel the need to give couples scores under 5, but us fans are here in our hundreds of thousands and poised ready to vote to ensure that the person who has been under marked gets through to the following week. We hate saying goodbye but love the surprised look when a couple who have been at the bottom of the leaderboard find themselves safely through to next week.
  8. Claudia (Winkleman) –Β We’re pretty sure her Wikipedia article should be changed to read “TV Presenter, causer of mayhem and fun in the clauditorium!” We love Claudia and Tess and together they are a great partnership. Claudia’s comic timing and her quick wit have left us in stitches of laughter week after week!
  9. Β The live music and band –Β Sometimes tasked with recreating music classics, they always pull it out of the bag and produce a brilliant arrangement for couples to dance to. In fact, there have been occasions where we’ve preferred their interpretation of the music to the original song.
  10. It keeps getting better –Β We say this week after week and year after year, Strictly always seem to amaze us with their productions. They really do keep getting better and deserve all the awards they win!

Bella’s 10 things she loves about Strictly

  1. The Sparkly Glitterball –Β It is so shiny and sparkly, I’d like one in my bedroom when I’m bigger.
  2. It makes me smile even when I’m feeling poorly –Β During last year’s series, we had to tweet along with Strictly from hospital, when Little Bella’s appendix burst. Despite her feeling rubbish, being able to watch Strictly in hospital really put a smile on her face.
  3. The best professional dancers in the world (ever!) –Β I love all the pro dancers as they are amazing, but I love the Cliftons most because they are awesome.
  4. It helped me start learning to dance –Β I didn’t like dancing much before Strictly, but I love learning to dance now. When I’m older I’d like to be a professional dancer or a teacher!
  5. I can watch it with my mummy –Β She gives the best snuggles and lets me stay up late to watch Strictly with her all the time!
  6. The friends I have made –Β I have made a lot of best friends because of Strictly. I think everyone who likes Strictly is very kind and nice.
  7. They have a youtube channel –Β It means I can watch dances all the time forever and forever and forever.
  8. The Sparkly Dresses and Shoes –Β They make all the girls look like princesses and I think they always look beautiful and magical.
  9. It wins awards –Β Strictly give out a Glitterball to people so it’s only fair that they should get a glittery award too.
  10. It has an awesome tour –Β Mummy says I’m still too little to go to the real Planet Strictly and watch Strictly being filmed, so I love that they have a tour that I can go to watch Strictly at with my mummy, daddy and baby sister!

So there you have it, our top 10 reasons why we love Strictly. We’d love to hear your reasons you love Strictly. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below to let us know. We look forward to hearing from you. We may even feature some of them in our next project on our blog and twitter #10ThingsWeLoveAboutStrictly

Strictly Support Group – Kids Say The Funniest Things!

Here at the Strictly Support Group, we love to cure your post-strictly blues! I’m very lucky, that in my house I have a young Strictly Superfan (Bella – aged 6) who makes me smile and laugh with her words of wisdom.

Yesterday afternoon I had some wonderful words of wisdom from my little girl Bella which I thought might make you smile! It all started on Sunday evening, when she told me this:

Then yesterday, as we get ready for our trip to the Strictly tour (17 sleeps today) I had this pearl of wisdom from my 6 year old:

Bella: Mummy, when I’m bigger, I’m going to get a job so I can go to every show of the Strictly tour. I think I’ll need to wait until I’m 12 because I need to save lots of money.

Me: But what about School?

Bella: That’s ok mummy. I’ll learn to dance and Strictly is educational!

Me: Can mummy come with you to all the shows?

Bella: Yes, you can mummy. I think you need to learn to dance properly!

I also got told she needed to make a checklist for her trip to the Strictly tour! When I went to get her ready for bed, I saw this note which not only made me a little teary-eyed, but also made me laugh out loud! 😒🀣

If you have a young or little Strictly fan, we’d love to hear the funniest things they’ve said about Strictly recently. Tell us by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Strictly Overheards – A little anecdote!Β

For those of you who know me well, you’ll know that today was a very special day in our house for my Strictly Superfan, Bella!

Today, she competed in her first ever dance competition. She was in a category of under 7s along with her partner Jacob and was possibly one of the youngest there.

Before we went there, Bella was extremely excited whilst Jacob was nervous. I asked Bella before she performed how she felt and she said “Mummy, I’ve come here to have fun. I’ve never been in a dance competition before, so I don’t know how I’m going to do, but I’m going to have fun and do the best I can!”

I was very impressed by her maturity as well as her dance choice (a beautiful waltz.) They performed and after a very long wait and some tough competition, she and her partner Jacob came out in fourth place!

Mummy may have shed a few tears seeing her little girl collect her sparkly medal, but nothing prepared me for her adorable speech in the car on the way home!

She told me “Mummy, I don’t mind that I didn’t win the competition or get a glitterball trophy. I made lots of friends at the competition and that’s the most important thing. It’s like on Strictly when everyone becomes friends. I wanted everyone else to win and not me because we were having so much fun! Winning doesn’t always make you happy but friends and having fun do.”

I had a think about what she said and realised that not only have I got a very mature and wise 6 year old girl (who’s more mature than me sometimes) but Strictly has taught her an important lesson for her future!

Well done Bella. Mummy and daddy are extremely proud of you! You are a little superstar and nothing will change that. Keep dancing little one.

Strictly Support Group – Princess Bella’s Disney Themed Chat

Over the past few weeks my little Strictly Superfan Bella has taken charge of an interview with two of her favourite pro dancers. She pleaded with me earlier on in the week to host a Strictly Chat before proper Strictly starts!

I asked her what she wanted to talk about, and she asked to chat about Disney, so tonight, she hosted a Disney Themed Chat!

Here’s a brief recap of what happened in Bella’s words!

Hello people inside mummy’s computer. It’s Bella, or Princess Bella! There’s a Glitterball moon in the sky over Disney, or so my mummy tells me! I really want to go there, as much as I want to visit Planet Strictly.

Tonight I hosted a Disney meets Strictly themed chat! On Strictly there have been many Disney themed dances over the past few years. My favourite is this one:

I had some great suggestions from the rest of you. Here they are in a playlist:

I then asked you to tell me if Strictly was a Disney film which film would it be and why? I had some great answers from you all. here are my favourites:

My Prince Charming and Disney Princess on Strictly are Kevin and Karen Clifton. For my next question, I asked you to tell me who are your Prince Charming and Disney Princess on Strictly. Here are your suggestions:

For my next question, mummy showed me how to make a poll. I asked if you’d like to see a Disney themed Strictly week:

I agree with you all. For my final question, I asked, which Disney films would you like to see on Strictly 2016? Here are some of your great answers:

That ended Bella’s chat tonight. Thank you Bella and thank you all for taking part. We hope you enjoyed it.

We’re back on Tuesday from 8pm for our weekly quiz. If you didn’t get a chance to take part in our chat tonight, don’t fear! You can still join in by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below to let us know.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Toca Dance – A review by 6yr old Bella! πŸ¦„πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ‘ΈπŸ»

For many in the UK it’s half-term this week. When planning a journey last week my 6yr old kindly requested something strictly (or unicorn) related to keep her busy during our flight to Barcelona.

We are huge fans of the Hachette Digital Strictly Sticker app but my daughter wanted a new app to keep her entertained. I searched for a long time before discovering the TocaBoca Toca Dance app. This is a great app which allows children (and grown-ups) to choreograph and record fun dances using some great characters.

Bella is very honest and is one of the fiercest critics I know. I asked my little girl to tell me what she thought of the app. Here is a short review from her:

Toca Dance is a fab-u-lous and fun app. I like it a lot because you can make fun dances just like you see on Strictly. I like making them and my baby sister likes watching them.

You get to choose from some characters and can then teach them to dance a routine. You can then dress them up in fun costumes (there are no unicorns but my favourites are the glow in the dark ones) and choose a song to perform to. You then get to record it and set up the stage and can perform in front of an audience and throw objects at them.

I really liked it as it reminded me of strictly and mummy says I could be a choreographer when I’m bigger!

I’d give it 10 glitter balls as I think it’s fabulous. Mummy says it kept me busy and quiet during a very long flight which is a good thing but I don’t understand why. Here’s my creation:

It certainly got the Bella seal of approval. I had a go earlier and have to say I thought it was just as good too.

Toca dance is available to download on the App Store. We recommend downloading it as it’s great for rainy days at home.

World Book Day – Strictly Style!Β

There’s nothing better than a good book, unless you’re a Strictly fan, in which case there’s nothing better than a Strictly book!

It’s World Book Day today, and my little bookworm Bella has gone to school dressed as another Bella; Bella Jones from the Strictly Books Series.

Whilst looking through her bookshelf the other day, I realised that Bella has a few lot of dance related books, many of which we have read together. I decided to let her take over our blog this afternoon to give a review of some of her favourite dance-related books. Here is what she thought of 4 of her favourite dance-related books:

Ballet Shoes: Noel Streatfield

One of my favourite books as a child, I was over the moon when Bella asked if I could start reading it to her last year.

Bella says – This story is all about 3 sisters who were adopted as babies and grow up with their Great Uncle Matthew. He is an explorer and disappears one day so they have to be looked after by his niece Sylvia. She didn’t have enough money to look after them so they decided to start learning to dance so they can become rich.

I like this book a lot, as I like the characters, especially Posy, because she is funny. I think if they were on Strictly they would get a 10/10 and this book would too, because it is awesome!

It gets the thumbs up from Bella & a 10/10!

The Dancing Bear – Michael Morpurgo

Bella chose this book from the library because she read the word dancing in the title!

Bella says: This story is all about a girl called Roxy who finds a bear cub who needs looking after. A film crew come to their town one day and decide that they should make the bear dance.

I like this story, but don’t like the bit where the bear dances, because that’s cruel. It was sad at the end because the bear dies when Roxy moves away. It made me cry, so I needed a hug from my mummy. Some of the words were a bit long for me to read, but mummy helped me read it.

I don’t think bears belong on Strictly, but I liked the story apart from the sad bits, so I’d give it an 8/10!

Rainbow Fairies: Bethany The Ballet Fairy: Daisy Meadows

We love the Rainbow Fairies books in our house, especially the Dance Fairies sets. They are really easy for young readers to get into, and Bella absolutely loves them.

Bella says:  I love all the dance fairies and think they should be on Strictly next year! I like this story because they have lots of adventures. Bethany loses her ribbon and her friends help her find it. Jack Frost is very naughty and tries to stop them.

There are other dance fairies, but Bethany is my favourite, because she likes ballet, like me!

I’d give the book and the dance fairies a 10/10 as they are fab-u-lous!

Strictly Come Dancing: Tango Tangle by Chloe Melody

If a book has the word Strictly in it, Bella has to read it! We were out shopping when she spotted this book, and it’s been a favourite of hers ever since she started reading!

Bella says: I really like this story because it’s just like Strictly and the girl in the book is called Bella, like me. Bella is auditioning for a place at the Strictly Dance Academy (I really want to go there!) She gets very nervous but meets some good friends who help her.

I think even a grumpy person like Craig Revel Horwood should read this book because it’s really good and I give it 10/10!

So that’s what Bella thought of some Strictly books we have read! If you’ve read a dance related book, let us know. We’d love to hear from you. You can comment below or tweet @scd_support to let us know now. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Strictly Support Group – A Post-Strictly Tour Anecdote!Β

We all know that feeling! The post-strictly Blues after the tour has finished. That moment you crash down to earth after being on a glittery high for the last few months.

Fear not my friends, the Strictly Support Group is here to cure your post Strictly blues! If you ever feel in need of a Sparkly Fix to make you smile, just holler and we’ll be there faster than Gleb can do the Rampant Crab *gets distracted* or faster than Len running after a walnut! Now that’s a funny image.

Anyway, we thought we’d make you smile with a sparkly story and anecdote of what happened in our household this morning. I live with a very young Strictly superfan, my daughter Bella (aged 5 3/4!) This morning she woke up in tears and came to find me before I went off to work. Here’s what happened:

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella: *sobbing* Mummy, it’s not fair. Strictly has finished until September. They always say to keep dancing, so why have they finished?

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me: Well, the dancers need a break as if they danced all year round they would get very tired.

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella: And then they’d fall asleep on the dancefloor! That would be very boring and Craig Revel Horwood would get angry.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me: Yes it would be boring, and I think he’d get angry too. This way you can learn to dance ready for Strictly in September!

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella: And then I can be on Strictly too?

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me: Maybe in a few years time. You’re still only little.

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella: But Mummy! I’ll be 6! I’m old enough to see the crab, so I think I’ll be big enough to go on Strictly.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me: We shall see! September is a long time away.

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella: I know Mummy! I’ll be really old and you’ll be as old as a dinosaur (for the record, I’m not that old!) It seems a really long way away. How can I make the time run really fast (go quickly!)

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me: Well, you can keep dreaming of Strictly and keep watching your favourite dances, like mummy does!

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella: That’s a good idea mummy! And if I watch the dances really quickly (speeded up), the dancers will get dizzy but it (the wait) will go even faster! πŸ˜†

Not sure how this works, but watching dances in fast forward, will (in my 5 year old’s world) make time go even quicker.

Cassie πŸ™‚

Strictly 2015 – Week 1 seen from the eyes of Bella (aged 5 and a half!)

My 5 year old Bella is the biggest Strictly fan in my house and watched Strictly week 1 with the biggest smile on her face. It’s safe to say she loved it! I decided to interview her earlier to find out what she thought of the weekend’s performances.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – So Bella, what did you think of Friday night’s show?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – It was very late, but I stayed awake during it mummy and it was fabulous, even if Craig was very grumpy. I think his mummy needs to teach him that if he doesn’t have anything nice to say he shouldn’t say anything at all!

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – Well said Bella. Kevin and Kellie kicked off the show with their Tango. What did you think of that dance?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – I loved it. The Tango is really hard to dance and you need to look grumpy all the time. They were really fast too. I also like Kellie, because she doesn’t like celery! It tastes horrible. I think Craig got his 6 and 9 paddle mixed up, because a 6 looks like a 9. I think they deserved a 9/10 for that performance.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – Thank you Bella. Anthony and Oti then Jived across the Strictly Ballroom. What did you think of that?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – I liked it, but I think he needs to ask his mummy to buy him bigger trousers as he tore them this week. He confuses me too, because he thinks he’s a tree but he doesn’t have any leaves. They looked like bunny rabbits hopping around and  having lots of fun on Strictly and it was very good. I’d give them an 8/10.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – I agree with you Bella. What did you think of Helen and Aljaz’s Waltz?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – It was magical and she looked like a princess. She said she was like a duck, but she doesn’t have any feathers. I think she deserves a 10/10 as it was brilliant. I can’t wait to see her dance next week.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – I agree with you Bella. What did you think of Carol and Pasha’s Cha Cha Cha?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – I liked her dress a lot. I think she was very very nervous. I want to give her a cuddle as I think that’ll help. Craig was really mean only giving her a 2, she deserved at least a 5.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – He was very harsh. What did you think of Daniel and Kristina‘s Waltz?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – I really liked it mummy. I don’t know who he is, but he reminds me of a teddybear and I like dancing with my teddybear! I’m voting for him next week I think.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – He was adorable. How about Anita and Gleb’s Cha Cha Cha?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – You went funny watching this mummy, I don’t know what happened but you said I could buy a pony! (I don’t remember this but I was a little distracted!) I liked their performance, it was a lot of fun to watch. I’d give them a 9/10!

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – So on Saturday night we saw 9 couples perform. What did you think of Jay and Aliona’s Cha Cha Cha?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – He confused me. They said he came out of his shell. He must have been a tortoise in another life. He also borrowed your blouse mummy. It was a good performance and I think he deserves a 9/10!

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – I wondered where that blouse went! πŸ˜† How about Kirsty and Brendan and their Waltz?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – She looked like a princess but looked really nervous. Her mummy brought her healthy treats to her rehearsals, I think she needs some proper cake for next week! Can you bake her one of your glittery cupcakes, please, Mummy?

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – Maybe! How about Jeremy and Karen’s Cha Cha Cha?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – I loved it mummy. The judges said he was dad dancing, but he danced better than my daddy can dance and he looked like he was having lots of fun and that’s what Strictly is all about. I’m voting for them next week and if they win I want to borrow Karen’s dress. I give them a 9/10

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – Don’t tell your daddy you said that! *Hopes hubby doesn’t read this blog post!*  What did you think of Ainsley and Natalie’s Tango?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – He’s normally very happy and looked really grumpy. I think Craig must have been showing him his 2 paddle during their performance. They were really good and I loved Natalie’s dress. I give them an 8/10.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – I think you might be right there. What did you think about Katie and Anton‘s Jive?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – I liked Katie’s dress and think it looked like lots of fun to dance. Anton was funny and I think he needs to go to the gym because he needs to dance a lot more this year. Baby Elodie loved their dance. I’d give them an 8/10.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – He needs a personal trainer and a personal shopper to help him with his Christmas shopping this year! What did you think of Georgia and Giovanni’s Jive?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – I like them because they’re little like me! I tried jiving along but it’s very hard so they did really well. I nearly went to sleep after dancing it because I got so tired. I give them a 10/10 as it was fab-u-lous!

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – What did you think of Iwan and Ola’s Tango?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – He likes running around a lot. I think he’ll be really good at the quickstep. I’m not sure about this dance. I liked it, but I’d give them an 8/10.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – How about Jamelia and Tristan’s Waltz?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – I loved her dress. She looked like Princess Tiana. They danced it really well too. I’d give them a 9/10!

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – Finally, what did you think of Peter and Janette’s Cha Cha Cha?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – It was uh-may-zing! Janette’s dress was very pretty. I liked it because it was pink. He looked like a profishional (professional) dancer! I give them 10/10!

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – Thank you Bella. I know it’s your bedtime soon, so before you go to bed, who are your favourites this year?

πŸ‘ΈπŸ» Bella – It’s too hard to choose but I like Kellie and Kevin, Helen and Aljaz, Daniel and Kristina, Jeremy and Karen, Georgia and Giovanni and Peter and Janette. I want them all to win a glitterball.

πŸ‘©πŸ» Me – That may be a little hard. Thank you for letting me interview you Bella. Bella will be blogging regularly throughout this series of Strictly. Keep an eye on here to see what she has to say. She is a very opinionated 5 year old!
