Yes, it’s that time of year again! Time for Strictly Day. Today, the wonderful show that is Strictly Come Dancing turns 11 years old (yes, it’s really been on our screen for 11 years.) Tomorrow night we’ll be celebrating in the way we know best (hosting a Strictly Support Group chat from 7.30pm.) Today we have lots of fun planned for you, starting with a very special Foxtrot Friday.
The Foxtrot is our favourite ballroom dance and over the last 11 years we have seen some truly fab-u-lous, magical, floating, entertaining and beautiful foxtrots on our screens. They are all wonderful, so have made a special Foxtrot Friday playlist, just for you!
Watch the dances below and then vote in the poll underneath them to choose your favourite Foxtrot of all time. We’ll then reveal the winner at 7.30pm tonight.
We’ll also have a surprise for you later this afternoon, so keep an eye on here and on twitter @scd_support for more information.
I’m off to bake some cakes for our special Strictly Support Group tomorrow, but will be back later. Have a fab-u-lous Friday all!
Today, my lovely friend Serene turns 30 (even though she only looks about 12 – lucky thing) & as a special Birthday treat, I did some undercover detective work earlier on this week, looking a little like this guy (but less fluffy) to find out what her favourite American Smooth was.
She (being an indecisive lady) picked Louis and Flavia’s fabulous dance. She loved this dance for several reasons:
1) She likes the quickstep and quickstep based American Smooths
2) It showcased Louis’s strength (and muscles) 😍
3) The staging and music were great, along with Flavia’s choreography and Louis’s breakdancing/gymnastics section in the middle.
4) It was a perfect fusion between 1940s and modern-day dance and was an amazing performance overall.
I think it’s a great choice and really enjoyed watching it. I hope you will too:
Today is my birthday and today I’ve been opening presents, enjoying being spoilt rotten and I’ve officially hit the age that our couples all aspire to reach on every performance. Yes I am now 30 (Eek!)
Sadly my wish of a Pasha in a box didn’t come true, but for today’s Smooth Sunday I showed you a spellbinding treat of an American Smooth from Rachel and Pasha. This dance scored 30/40 and was their highest scoring dance. Although it was their last performance, they truly went out on a high. The choreography was enchanting, The dancing was spellbinding, Pasha looked gorgeous *drools thinking of Pasha*, The costumes and concept were brilliant (Rachel looked adorable as a ghost) and the music was brilliant.
We loved this routine and hope you will too. Here are Rachel and Pasha to put a spell on you with their fab-u-lous American Smooth:
We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. We also want to hear your favourite Strictly dances to have scored 30 points as we’re making a special 30th Birthday playlist. Comment below, tweet @scd_support and share this with your friends. We’d love to hear from you.
Have a wonderful day. We’ll be back on Wednesday for a quickfire quiz from 8pm.
If anyone had asked us where is Grimsby before September 2013, we’d have probably shrugged our shoulders and looked extremely confused, a little like this guy:
but then the wonderfully talented Kevin (from Grimsby) stepped onto Strictly’s dancefloor and put Grimsby well and truly on the map!
Today just so happens to be his birthday, and we think he’ll be celebrating getting through to this week in the competition. We hope he gets the chance for a break and some cake too.
As you know, we like to give you all a birthday dedication on your special day, and today’s Monday memory comes from this year’s launch show. It is his dance with his lovely fiancée, the wonderful Karen Hauer, to 5SOS’s Amnesia. We loved this dance and it did make us very teary, but it also is a celebration showcasing what amazing dancers these two are. It seemed the perfect dedication to Kevin for his birthday.
Happy Birthday Kevin! Here’s your birthday Strictly fix. Have a fantastic day and hope the year ahead is full of success and all your (glitterball) dreams come true.
Today, the lovely Natalie Lowe celebrates her birthday. We tried baking her a cake but realised it’d be a little hard to deliver it over twitter, so sent her a virtual one instead 🎂. For her present we dedicated a beautiful Foxtrot to her.
We chose this gorgeous dance she performed with Ian Waite in the Strictly Semi-Final 2009 for our Foxtrot Friday dance:
Words cannot really describe it as it is true perfection. Natalie’s dress was stunning, the choreography suited the music perfectly and the lifts and drops just added to the beauty of the dance. We loved the smooth, soft and romantic nature of the Foxtrot. This dance was elegant and made our eyes ever so slightly leaky. *gets out the kleenex before she gets too emotional*
My 4 year old had never seen this dance before, so when I showed it to her this morning, she loved it but did say “mummy, if he’s not bringing her flowers, she shouldn’t dance with him because that’s not nice!” I did explain, it was just a song, and I’m sure Ian would give her flowers on her birthday!
Natalie, if you’re reading this, we hope you have fabulously floral Friday and a wonderful birthday. Hope all your Strictly Glitterball dreams come true this year too. 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💃🏆💃🏆💃🏆💃💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
We hope you all enjoyed watching that dance and have a wonderful day!
Today is the legend that is (The Best Teacher on Strictly) Anton Du Beke’s birthday.
We were tempted to buy him a present, but had problems trying to decide what to buy him. Instead, we thought we’d treat him to an extra special (virtual) treat of Cake 🎂, Balloons 🎈🎈🎈 and dancing. We’ve chosen one of his dances for today’s Smooth Sunday fix. This performance was performed in Blackpool and was so big we couldn’t gift wrap it in a box, so sent his gift over twitter this morning and on here this afternoon. After all, it’s the thought that counts!
As it’s Sunday, we’ve chosen his Airline-themed American Smooth with the Fantastic Fiona Fullerton. Although this was their final dance, we love a man in uniform, and this dance was truly First Class. Fiona’s costume dazzled across the Tower Ballroom floor. The choreography, lifts and dancing were just brilliant. They both oozed style, sophistication and elegance. We loved it!
We hope you will too. Here it is, to wish Anton a very Happy Birthday, his and Fiona’s American Smooth. Anton, if you’re reading this, we hope all your wishes come true (including winning a Glitterball after 12 series – we’ll keep our fingers and toes crossed for you this year!) and hope you have an amazing day.
We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. Tweet us your thoughts @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
We love to add a little glittery magic into your lives every day of the year, so when we heard one of our lovely followers @vickimichelle21 was celebrating her birthday today we couldn’t resist dedicating a Salsa to her!
The Salsa is the ultimate party dance and a great way to celebrate your birthday. Knowing she is a massive Team Kevanna fan, it seemed natural to choose Susanna and Kevin’s fun Salsa.
Although not technically perfect, this performance is exuberant and has bags of energy. So much energy, they looked like little bunny rabbits jumping and running around! It looked like they had so much fun we wanted to join in their disco party. Only problem is we didn’t get an invite 😦 Never mind, there’s always next year!
Anyway, back on topic, this is a true celebration of a Salsa and it’s our Birthday Wish to you Vicki! We hope you have a wonderful day!
Now we’ve got your attention! Today is a triple Celebration for us. It’s the Queen’s Official Birthday (Happy Birthday Your Majesty!) as well as two of our fans, Our Handmade Collective and Tufty1985’s birthdays. You know how we never turn down a party (or a slice of chocolate cake *Daydreams about cake*) so we decided to commemorate this day with three routines.
For the Queen’s Official Birthday, we’ve chosen a dance fit for Royalty. It’s Russell and Flavia’s Salsa to Dancing Queen! We like to think the Queen would have enjoyed it. It was fun, frivolous and entertaining (all the things a Salsa should be!) It had a real party feel to it, and had lots of feathers, glitter and sparkle! (We like shiny things!) We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did:
Happy Official Birthday Your Majesty! *stomps feet! Why can’t I have an official Birthday too!*
We then asked Our Handmade Collective to pick their favourite dance from Strictly for their Birthday fix. They picked, Chris and Ola’s fabulous Charleston. This is a dance that never fails to make us smile. Chris reminded us of an excitable Labrador Puppy and his facial expressions were pure perfection throughout the dance. We loved watching it too and wish them a very Happy 1st Birthday:
For Tufty1985, we know there is one dance that she loved and that is THE Paso of Strictly from Susanna and Kevin! Although it was dramatic, it is a true celebration of dance perfect for a birthday. We hope you enjoy your birthday treat from us:
We hope you enjoyed your 3 strictly fixes today! We know it’s not chocolate cake, but it’s almost as good as it! If you have a birthday coming up and would like us to give you a strictlified shoutout, let us know. We’d love to hear from you!
Today is the lovely Artem Chigvintsev’s Birthday, so for our Throwback Thursday moment, we dedicated one of our favourite SCD moments of 2013 to him as a birthday wish.
We were going to choose an It Takes a Two moment, but are unsure if he likes Karaoke or not after this reaction to Natalie’s Singing:
Instead, we’ve chosen a wonderful pro routine, featuring Mr Chigvintsev himself!
This pro routine combined two of our favourite things, the music of Keane (first album my husband bought me when we first met) and dancing. Yes, it’s Janette and Artem’s gorgeous dance to “everybody’s changing!” When we first say this dance we were amazed as they floated from move to lifts effortlessly. We loved it and it moved us to tears it was so beautiful. We’re sending you a slice of cake, a box of glittery tissues and some balloons to help you celebrate along with this dance:
We hope you enjoyed watching that dance and would love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below.
One last word from us:
Happy Birthday Artem! We hope you have a fabulous day!
Today it’s not just Easter Sunday but also the lovely Karen Hauer’s birthday. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by showing one of her dances whilst we tuck into our chocolatey haul!
Although it’s not an American Smooth, we’ve chosen her smooth, suave and sophisticated Foxtrot with Nicky Byrne from 2012.
This dance oozed glamour and reminded us of classic Hollywood films. Karen’s choreography was perfect and helped Nicky perform to his best. Karen, as always, looked gorgeous and her dress gave us serious dress envy. The dancing was effortless and sublime and we felt it deserved at least 9s maybe even 10s.
We loved it, so treated all of you and Karen to seeing it this morning. If you missed it on twitter, don’t sweat! Here it is again, just for you, Nicky and Karen’s Foxtrot:
We hope you all enjoyed watching that dance and have a great Easter.
For Karen (if you’re reading this), we hope you have an amazing birthday and all your wishes come true! Here’s some cake from us 🎂
