The Last Tango – A Review!

The last 24 hours in our house have been very dramatic. Spending most of yesterday in A&E, today we needed some light entertainment, so I took my little Strictly fan Bella along to see Vincent and Flavia’s swansong, The Last Tango.

Before we went I made sure we had plenty of tissues, a camera, a sparkly pen to sign one little lady’s plaster cast and of course (that essential companion for all our theatre trips) one of our cuddly unicorns.

The show takes on the form of a nostalgic recollection of a man called George’s life as he clears his attic. It certainly is very emotive (I was told before the play started – “No crying mummy!”) and the storyline, combined with the beautiful dancing moved me to tears many times during the performance. It was just as well we took plenty of tissues. As Vincent and Flavia’s swan song, we were bound to get a little bit emotional.

Vincent and Flavia brought the Argentine Tango (or Orangentine Mango if you’re a 5 year old Strictly fan) to our screens on Strictly. Together on stage their performances are captivating and their dancing so beautiful it gives you goosebumps. There is no dialogue in the show, but it still had us glued to what was going on.

The storyline, singing, dancing, acting and of course the costumes and staging were the best we’d seen since last week’s Strictly Live Tour! Just like Dance Till Dawn, we loved it.

My lovely little girl said she’d give it 10 unicorns out of 10; it definitely got the Bella seal of approval. 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄

Vincent and Flavia have given us so many fab-u-lous moments on Strictly. Being able to see their last stage show together left us feeling more emotions than we’ve ever felt before. It made us smile, laugh, and cry at the same time. It is one of the many memories we will keep of this wonderful partnership. As their last stage show together we can honestly say that they have gone out on a high! We give it 5*s and a sparkly glitterball on top.

30 Day Challenge – Bella’s A to Z of Strictly – Day 7 – G is for…..

G is for Gorgeous Gaw-jus, Glittery and THE (Russell) Grant!

It’s a Sunday and while Bella’s enjoying a well-deserved day of rest, she’s kindly asked me to help her write today’s post! When it comes to the letter G, you may have guessed in her eyes the best word beginning with G is glitter! If you don’t like glitter, or are allergic to it, look away now!

The shiniest glitterball of them all, with extra added glitter and a bit more glitter on top!

On Strictly there is one dance which is more glittery than any other and that’s the American Smooth. It always seems to be the sparkliest dance on the dancefloor. It’s rarely outshone by the other ballroom dances. This may be because there are added sequins as well as lifts! It looks glamourous, gaw-jus and extra glittery.

For us, there is one American Smooth which was sparklier than the rest and that is Russell Grant and Flavia Cacace’s fun and entertaining dance from 2011.

It may not have been technically perfect, but there was some serious bling with the sequins going on with their costumes, which looked gaw-jus. It was full of theatricality and just made us want to burst out into song and join in *looks around to see if anyone else felt the same* 😯

Here are Russell and Flavia with their American Smooth. We hope you enjoy it:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. You can tweet us @scd_support or comment below to let us know. Let us also know what’s been the most glittery dance on strictly for you and we’ll give you a shoutout!

Bella will be back tomorrow with the next letter in her Strictly A to Z!

Smooth Sunday – A Birthday Surprise For a Special Friend @serenepingu 🐧

Today, my lovely friend Serene turns 30 (even though she only looks about 12 – lucky thing) & as a special Birthday treat, I did some undercover detective work earlier on this week, looking a little like this guy (but less fluffy) to find out what her favourite American Smooth was.

She (being an indecisive lady) picked Louis and Flavia’s fabulous dance. She loved this dance for several reasons:

1) She likes the quickstep and quickstep based American Smooths

2) It showcased Louis’s strength (and muscles) 😍

3) The staging and music were great, along with Flavia’s choreography and Louis’s breakdancing/gymnastics section in the middle.

4) It was a perfect fusion between 1940s and modern-day dance and was an amazing performance overall.

I think it’s a great choice and really enjoyed watching it. I hope you will too:

Happy Birthday Serene! Have a Terrific Day & enjoy being spoilt rotten. You deserve it and hope you liked your treat.

I’d love to hear what the rest of you thought of that dance. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. Look forward to hearing from you.

Salsa Saturday – It’s Movie Day!

There’s nothing we like more than a chilled out Saturday at home watching movies, and today’s Salsa Saturday fix puts us in the perfect Saturday mood.

We’re watching Louis and Flavia’s Dirty Dancing inspired Salsa from 2012. When we first watched this dance, we were not only tempted to try the lift but raided our DVD cabinet for our copy of Dirty Dancing.

The choreography captured the spirit of the film perfectly. The dancing was brilliant and the costumes even better. The music was wonderful and the whole performance gave us the time of our lives, and we owe it all to Louis and Flavia.

We loved this dance and hope you will too. Here are Louis and Flavia with their wonderful Salsa:

We’re off to watch a movie now, but would love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We’d love to hear from you. We also want to know which dance movie you most enjoy watching at the weekend. Let us know your favourite dance movies.

Tango Tuesday – we’re on the lookout for dancing Eskimos!

It may be freezing outside *shivers* but we can always keep warm dancing. One warning, if you see any eskimos around, don’t ask them for a dance. You must never do a tango with an Eskimo!

Now we’ve got the warning out of the way, today’s Tango Tuesday fix is brought to you by Flavia and Rufus Hound. When these two performed on last year’s Christmas Special, this performance warmed us up and made us smile, even if it was chilly outside.

It was entertainment gold which we have come to expect from Strictly. The choreography was great, as were the acting, dancing and music too.

We’d love to see Rufus appear on the next series of Strictly and will keep our fingers crossed it happens.

Here are Rufus and Flavia with their fab-u-lous Tango:

We hope you enjoyed watching that dance and would love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_Support or comment below. We’re also trying to find out tips about dance we’ve learnt from songs. Let us know and we’ll make you a shortlist of our favourites.

Samba Saturday – A dance full of Brazilian flair!

We’re counting down sleeps until we head to see Dance ’til Dawn next week! With just 5 sleeps to go, we’re more excited than my 4yr old at Christmas, more excited than a kid in a sweet shop and as excited about seeing the show as we are about Strictly Saturdays.

For today’s Samba Saturday, we’re watching a fabulous routine from Vincent, Flavia and some brilliant Samba dancers.

This dance took us to Rio and has made us practice our Batucadas all morning (our legs hurt now!) We love it and it’s made us even more excited about our trip to the theatre next week. We will report back!

If you’re not going, or just want to smile this weekend, watch this dance. You’ll love it. Here are Vincent and Flavia with their Samba and some fab dancers!

Spooky Saturday – Our Top 10 Halloween Routines

This weekend, we’ve ditched the Samba and Salsa and turned it into *clenches teeth and grabs hold of teddy bear in fear* Spooky Saturday! In honour of Strictly’s Halloween special, we’ve dedicated a post to revealing our top 10 Halloween inspired dances.

10. Thriller Group Routine (2012)

No Halloween list would be complete without the obligatory Thriller performance! We love group routines and this one is one of our favourites (partly because we could dance along at home!) The pros and celebrities all looked fierce and we’d have been terrified if we’d saw them on Halloween!

9. Hairy Biker Dave and Karen’s Jive (2013)

Although he wasn’t technically the best dancer, this is a truly memorable routine in my household. My 4 year old loved it, as (in her words) “Dave looked like a Panda!” 🐼 Karen choreographed this to play to Dave’s strengths and his performance was brilliant. He truly did the Monster Mash and it was not just a Graveyard Smash, but a smash with the viewing public at home!

8. Holly and Artem’s American Smooth (2011)

This wasn’t very Halloween themed, but Artem’s balletic choreography was unique and fitted in perfectly with the Swan Lake theme. It was a truly memorable routine which we loved and it’ll certainly go down in history as one of our favourite ever Halloween routines.

7. Kimberley and Pasha’s Pasha Doble (2012)

As you know from last week, we love a good Pasha Doble! The red riding hood concept behind this dance was brilliant, and Pasha definitely made an adorable wolf! The choreography was challenging and Kimberley performed it brilliantly. It was powerful, passionate and perfect for the Halloween show.

6. Time Warp Routine (2013)

Let’s just embrace the madness that is Halloween for a moment and pay tribute to this fantastic dance! It was completely crazy, but Strictly does crazy in such a way it is brilliant and we love it. Combining all our celebrities, pro dancers and judges on the floor at the same time was a brilliant idea. The choreography once again could be followed along at home making us feel part of the show and extra special! What more could you ask for on a Saturday?

5. Susanna and Kevin’s Charleston (2013)

Kevin as a werewolf was worth paying the TV licence alone! Enough said. On a more serious note, this dance was pure brilliance. Kevin’s choreography was challenging and Susanna performed it amazingly. Even though she managed to get away with not wearing a Halloween disguise we loved it. It was so expressive, so much fun and pure exuberance which only Strictly can do.

4. Strictly Professionals Routine to Toxic (2012)

Imagine being transported to a Halloween Masquerade Ball and this is what you get, a powerful dance with amazing costumes! We love a good bit of Britney, so whoever choreographed this dance gets extra brownie points from us! We loved it and it features all our favourite professional dancers!

3. Harry and Aliona’s Tango (2011)

What do you get when you give a drummer a pair of fangs and some amazing choreography? A vampire tango! We loved this dance and Aliona’s choreography played to Harry’s strengths. The dance was rhythmical, sharp and expertly performed. We loved the maskography and for us it’s in our top 3 routines.

2. Patrick and Anya’s Quickstep (2013)

Being in the dance-off brought this celebrity to life and his Halloween quickstep opened up last year’s show with a bang. Anya’s choreography was intense and Patrick danced the steps perfectly. For us, it was our favourite dance of last year’s Halloween show, followed closely by the werewolf Charleston.

1. Louis and Flavia’s Zombie Tango (2012)

For us nothing says Halloween better than this dance. A graveyard Tango full of delights. Flavia choreographed an impressive Tango routine which Louis performed perfectly (whilst being a zombie!) The dance had plenty of attack and we loved it. It is our all-time favourite Halloween performance!

Now you’ve heard our top ten, we’d love to hear what your favourite routines are. Comment below or tweet us @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you!

Throwback Thursday – An American Smooth Straight from the streets of New York (Via Wembley)

For today’s Throwback Thursday we’re taking you across the pond to New York (via Wembley) to watch an American Smooth from Louis Smith and Flavia Cacace.

We’re taking you back to 2012, to show you what really happens to billboard poster putter uppers. Once they’ve done a day’s work, they get whisked off their feet to dance the quickstep American Smooth.

We love the American Smooth and combining it with a Quickstep is inspired. Flavia’s choreography was brilliant and suited Louis’s strengths perfectly. The lifts were imaginative and the dancing was fast, flowing and fabulous.

Even though they didn’t get the highest score of the night, we loved this performance and hope you do too. Here are Louis and Flavia with their American Smooth. We hope you enjoy watching it:

Monday Memories – We’re off back to the classroom

Take your seats class and listen attentively!

Today marks the start of the new school year for many of you (sending hugs and moral support to anyone who is dreading their first day back to school, or any emotional parents waving their little darlings off on their first days at new schools.) and the chance for a new beginning and a new journey.

Very soon our celebrities will be starting their “j-word” and lessons in Ballroom and Latin with their professional partners. We cannot wait to see the results. We send them all a massive sparkly hug! You’re going to be fab-u-lous!

For today’s Monday Memory, we’re going back to 2012, to watch a school themed Jive from series winner Louis Smith and his partner Flavia Cacace.

We loved:

1) The staging – we felt like we’d stepped onto the set of glee. The sporty feel and storyline was perfect
2) The choreography – as ever Flavia choreographed a creative routine which suited the music and Louis really well.
3) The costumes – not only did we love Flavia’s Cheerleader dress, we also want Louis’s bomber jacket!
4) The music in this dance. As ever the band performed this song perfectly.
5) The Splits, Tricks, Jumps and dancing – Although it wasn’t their highest scoring dance, it was a great performance and we’d award it a solid B+

The near toppling over of the lockers at the end did make us smile a little although we think Strictly Health and Safety may have something to say about that.

We loved this dance and hope you’ll love it just as much too. Here are Louis and Flavia with their adorable Jive! Enjoy!

We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Have a fantastic Monday and 1st Day Back at School!

Memory Monday – A Bank Holiday Special

Today we’re enjoying an extra special lie-in, all because it’s Bank Holiday Monday. The bankers have taken their suits off for the day and are enjoying a day of rest, as are we.

We’re pretty sure that in their spare time bankers don’t take their suits off, so are likely to be found skipping, running and dancing around the City Of London all suited and booted. (If you are a banker and do wear other attire we’re extremely sorry for any offence this may cause!)

This brings us onto our dance of the day. Today we’re going back to 2010, to see a Quickstep straight off Wall Street from Jimi Mistry and Flavia Cacace. We loved the choreography, dancing, music and costumes. In fact we loved everything about this dance! It brightens our mood on the cloudiest of (bank holi)days.

We hope you enjoy watching it too. Here are Jimi and Flavia with their amazing quickstep:
