Strictly 2017 – Two by Two/It Takes Two 💃🏻

A couple of weeks ago, my lovely Mum text me to tell me she’d got tickets to (to quote her) “That Strictly Show on BBC Two – Two by Two!” She meant It Takes Two of course.

At first, all I could think of was Noah and his Ark, but then she asked if I would mind accompanying her along to watch the show. Before she’d even finished her sentence I said yes (and then started counting down the days until we would be heading off to Planet Strictly!)

I was given some wise advice from my 7 year old, Bella, before the show:

I heeded to her advice and wore as much glitter as I could, and kept on my best behaviour as Gorka was present.

It Takes Two is now filmed inside the new TV Centre and it felt a little nostalgic heading back there (after visiting there when I was about Bella’s age) but also brought a touch of old Strictly Magic to proceedings. What’s more, it’s right near to Westfield shopping centre which meant we had some Christmas shopping planned after the show.

We arrived early to avoid disappointment and met many fab-u-lous Strictly fans whilst we waited.  If you are lucky enough to get tickets, make sure you get there early. I have to say Zoe Ball is possibly the loveliest lady you will ever meet and took time to speak to each and every one of us as we entered and before the show. Strictly is such a wonderful show and everyone involved in it makes it a truly memorable experience.

Our first thoughts were that the studio looks a lot larger than on TV which was good, as there were a good number of us in the audience. It also looked so sparkly that we knew we were in the right place! We want some of those cushions on our sofa at home and those sequins gave us interior design envy.

The show itself was hilarious and being with other Strictly fans certainly added to the atmosphere. The Celebs (Alex, Gemma and Susan) and Pros (Aljaz, Gorka and Kevin) are truly lovely and all will get our votes this week. The Friday panel were uh-may-zing and Tom Allen (comedian extraordinaire) made us laugh so hard my cheeks were hurting by the end of the show. My mum did tell me that laughter is the best botox and she’s right!

If you are lucky enough to get tickets to the It Takes Two, don’t miss it! The Friday show is magical. Here are my top tips from the day:

  1. Wear comfy but smart shoes – There is a lot of standing and wearing high heels is not a good idea.
  2. Wear sparkly smart clothes and a touch of glitter.
  3. Get there early to avoid disappointment.
  4. Don’t be frightened, Zoe is lovely as are all the crew & the cast of Strictly 2017.

After being lucky enough to watching It Takes Two, we now want tickets to the Live Show. *Makes a wish that next year she gets Live Show tickets*

If you’ve been to see It Takes Two, and would like to let us know what you thought, comment down below. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Strictly 2017 – The Launch Show!

Today in our house wasn’t Saturday… It was Strictly Day. The day started early in our house… at 5am when my little Strictly superfan woke me up asking to make some score paddles.

With our score paddles made, copious amounts of coffee drunk and our Strictly snacks prepared we sat down tonight to watch the Strictly Launch Show.

For us Strictly fans, this is the time of year when staying in is the new going out on Saturday nights. It was a long awaited show for us and it did not disappoint.

The show began with a brilliant Fred Astaire tribute which had all the glamour of old hollywood. The Strictly Pros always amaze us and this dance was, to quote my 7 year old, totally epic!

It truly set the tone and we got to see new Judge Shirley Ballas show off her dancing moves. 😍 We did have several comments that she could be Arlene Phillip’s Stunt Double, and the similarity was uncanny!

We learnt that the Glitterball Trophy is really a Unicorn in Glitterball form, from Claudia. This was something that amazed my 7 year old, she’s convinced there is a unicorn inside ever glitterball.

After this it was time to meet the celebrities and start a game of Strictly Matchmaking!

First up were the girls! If you didn’t watch the show there are some spoilers ahead..

Gemma was paired with Aljaz 🚨 * awesome partnership alert* 🚨

Chizzy was paired with Pasha 🚨 * fun partnership alert* 🚨

Debbie was paired with Giovanni 🚨 *surprise partnership alert* 🚨

Ruth was paired with Anton

Charlotte was paired with Brendan

Mollie was paired with AJ 🚨*adorable humans alert* 🚨

Susan was paired with Kevin *inserts the cutest clip ever*

Alexandra was paired with Gorka *😍 partnership alert*

We then had the most beautiful and emotional tribute to Brucie. Brucie you were and always will be our favourite. If you didn’t cry, there’s something seriously wrong with you (even my 7 year old got ever so slightly emotional and wanted a cuddle!)

It was then time for the boys to be paired together

Aston was paired with Janette *🚨cute partnership alert 🚨*

Simon was paired with Karen *🚨exciting partnership alert🚨*

The Rev was paired with Dianne *🚨favourite partnership alert🚨*

Davood was paired with Nadiya *🚨hottest partnership in Strictly history ever alert 🚨 *

Joe was paired with Katya*🚨exciting partnership alert🚨*

Jonnie was paired with Oti *🚨exciting partnership alert🚨*

Brian was paired with Amy *🚨fun partnership alert🚨*

We then got to see our new pros dance in what has become one of our favourite Charleston routines ever. Jo and Ore returned to the dancefloor for one last time which caused much excitement in our household.  The celebrities then danced for the first time. It was possibly one of the best first dances ever and has set the standard for this year’s show as higher than ever.

The couples now have 2 weeks to train before the live shows start on the 23rd September. We honestly cannot wait. In our eyes it’s going to be the best series ever.

What did you think of tonight’s launch show? Who is your favourite so far? Cast your votes in this poll below which will remain open until the final:

We’ll have another post coming tomorrow from little miss unicorn Bella *gulps* and will be back on Wednesday from 8pm for our weekly quiz. We hope to see you then.

Strictly Cruise – A Review by @Team_Clifton

Ever wanted to go on a Strictly Cruise? The lovely Marisa (@TeamClifton) on twitter recently returned feeling sparkly and reinvigorated following a Strictly Cruise. She kindly agreed to review her experience for you all. Here is what she thought of the whole cruise in her own words:

Going on a Strictly themed cruise was something I had wanted to do since I had become Strictly mad. The only problem was that I had to convince my mum it was a good thing to do. Unfortunately, my mum didn’t have the same desire to go on a cruise. After two years of persuasion, my work finally paid off and the cruise was booked. Nothing like the excitement of seeing Jo and Giovanni in a showcase. The thought of going to places we had never been to in Spain, France and Italy was the final point of persuasion. So we arrived and, after gasps of “that ship is huge”, we boarded the ship and bumped into Joanne Clifton who had the same thought as me – get the Wi-Fi sorted – not cheap though.

Then it was time to explore the ship. It soon got a bit awkward as we kept bumping into Jo everywhere we went. Maybe the ship wasn’t as big as we thought! 🙈

Our cruise got off to a bit if a rocky start as the Bay of Biscay was particularly choppy but that didn’t stop us working out what we could do. As well as the Strictly Q&A, photo sessions, dance lessons and showcases there was also the usual cruise entertainment. I needed a PA (my mum!) to plan it all out. Of course, we treated ourselves to a spa treatment and found the gym – needed to work off the good food and, as we headed south the weather improved and got warmer, the sunbathing started. Then the dolphins came, at first we weren’t sure, but there was no mistaking the second time as there were about 10 in a pod.

After three days we started to look out for our first port, Alicante. Everyone seemed to be surprised at how nice it was as it was mostly known for Alicante airport. Apart from the occasional plane taking off you would not have known that there was an airport at all. What we did see was a beach, a Marina, a castle, pretty promenades and lots of coffee shops.

Back on board, we got ready to see the first Strictly showcase starring Jo and Giovanni. It was amazing and a good chance to see them show off their skills and to see that amazing Jive again. Sadly this time it was performed without Ore but we did have the world record holder for number of Jive steps in a minute to replace him. Giovanni was keen to remind us of that achievement!

Next Stop Barcelona. We had an excursion booked so had to be up and ready to go by 9.30am. But it was a good way to see a lot in a short time. Sadly this was where we said goodbye to Jo and Giovanni but where we said hello to Neil and Katya, AJ and Chloe who kicked off their cruise with a Q&A.

Sadly due to the choppy sea, we next stopped at Marseille instead of Cannes where it rained. A lot. We tried to see as much as we could but as I was wearing flip flops the squelching eventually got too much so we went back to the ship for lunch. It was then off to Italy, Pisa and Florence first and then Rome, where we had booked excursions as we wanted to see a lot. Tip if you want to go to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel book an excursion that has a fast track as the queues are can take more than two hours to get in. The other advantage to booking an excursion is that the ship will not go without you and at the port for Rome we needed lots of time so this was useful for us. Leaving this port meant that we started the journey home heading back towards Spain. So we had to make the most of our time left on board. Evening Entertainment included Lance Ellington known for being a Strictly singer, notably singing in Korean for Gangnam Style when Ed and Katya danced their salsa. Other singers included really good tribute acts for the Beatles and Michael Buble. The cruise has its own company Headliners which did a really good tribute to the musicals so it’s worth checking it out. This is in addition to the Strictly entertainment which at this stage of the cruise included AJ, Chloe, Katya and Neil. This was a nice opportunity to see more of what the professional couples could do and we were given the opportunity to see the dance that AJ and Chloe performed for BGT and one of Neil and Katya’s amazing showdance. One more stop at Cartegena in Spain and then onto Gibraltar our final stop.

As we leave each port, the entertainment team hold a sail away party. The Ventura put on really good sail aways with, in my opinion, a really good James Corden lookalike leading it. Even Craig Revel Horwood, who joined us at Gibraltar, joined in! Another Q&A session, this time, with Craig who was brutally honest about his past and made sure the audience was kept up to date with the recent announcements that Natalie was leaving and that the new judge, to replace Len, had been announced. Then we started getting ready to watch the final showcase, the Passengers Strictly Competition! With Craig, AJ and Richard, one of the ship’s crew, judging and Chloe presenting it was a lot of fun. Another Q&A with the Strictly production team which was very interesting and revealed a side to Strictly you don’t get to know about.

Now nearing Southampton, suitcases were packed up again and put out for collection leaving us an opportunity to fully enjoy our final night on board. One last quiz, we never did win one, a last evening meal and then it was soon time to say goodbye to the amazing staff on the Ventura as we arrived at Southampton. It was an amazing experience with memories I’ll never forget. P and O’s motto is: ‘This is the Life’. And it certainly was for us. Don’t be surprised if you see us on another Strictly cruise next year!

Thank you Marisa for reviewing your cruise experience. *persuades her husband to book a cruise next year* If you’ve been on a Strictly Cruise we’d love to hear what you thought of it. You can either tweet @scd_support or comment below this post to let us know. We look forward to hearing from you.

DWTS Ireland – The Final! A Review by @ByrneSarahNow

Over the past 11 weeks, our wonderful Irish reporter, Sarah (@byrneSarahNow) has guided us through the fab-u-lous first series of the Irish version of Strictly Come Dancing, DWTS Ireland. There have been many an embellished jacket (which puts Craig Revel Horwood’s costume’s to shame) and some epic dances. Here is what she thought of the final. If you haven’t watched it yet, look away now, as there are spoilers!

Welcome back everyone to my final review of what I have to say may of had a bit of a shaky start but has ended up being a brilliant series.

Right from the start of the Final show we were given an amazing pro dance which included our judges strutting their stuff and showing us that not only can they talk the talk but dance the dance. So sitting there watching the dance to see who is who and up next pop Nicky and Amanda giving it loads and it just set the tone for what was to come.

We also have our last instalment of Julian’s jacket watch who worn a glittery number this week. We have a photo of Julian with the creative mind behind his jackets, Claire Garvey @cgraveydesigner.

With everyone doing three dances it was time to get going.
First up

Aidan & Valeria

Judges Choice – American Smooth – 25 (Week 5 -21)

Favourite – Salsa – 25 (Week 1 – 19)

Freestyle – 30

Last week I commented on the power of the vote & this week Aidan wanted to prove to everyone that he had as much right to be in the Final as anyone else. And did he ever. with an increase of 4 points for his classy American Smooth & an increase of 6 points for his Salsa, he showed he has come a long way.

The Freestyle that Valeria came up with was nothing short of amazing. She used his strength and with the lifts that she put into it showed an unbelievable level of trust in him. I thought it was amazing & just right that he got a perfect score for it. Well done Aidan.

Aoibhin & Vitali

Judges Choice – Jive – 29 (Week 8 – 28)

Favourite – Rumba – 29 ( Week 6 – 26)

Freestyle – 30

Maybe it’s just me but I prefer when they go back a good few weeks & pick a dance so we can see the level of improvement. Aoibhin’s dances were all pretty good the first time around with only Brian with holding his 10 paddle.
Aoibhin’s Freestyle was a dramatic contemporary with some amazing lifts & moves. Vitali has showed he has a flare for the dramatic & Aoibhin proved that she was up for the challenge.

A great night for Aoibhin.

Denise & Ryan

Judges Choice – Tango – 30 (Week 3 – 26)

Favourite – Salsa – 30 (Week 8 – 27)

Freestyle – 30

Sheer perfection from Denise. She also showed improvement in her previous dances & I had serious concerns for Ryan who looked like his heart was about to burst he was so proud of Denise.

We have learnt over the course of the season that Ryan is a very talented choreographer so when he was able to let loose with the Freestyle he was fantastic. Their Freestyle was a soft & emotional contemporary dance, with more fabulous lifts. With 3 perfect scores Denise could do no more – well done.

So there you have it. We started with 11 and now our final 3 can do no more, 12 long intense weeks and it’s time for the public to vote and choose our winner as the judges scores are only a guide.

All of our previous Stars are back for one night only and we see poor Hughie hasn’t toned down the tan, Dayl is still feeling devastated that he is not in the final and I think Katherine and Teresa started the wrap party early. They took part in a group number which allowed them to take part one last time.

We also had live music from The Vamps who had support from our Wonderful Pro Dancers.
With the voting closed and counting done it was up to Amanda and Nicky (who took so long I thought they had left) to announce our winners…. Aidan & Valeria.

Congratulations to Aidan & Valeria, I for one am delighted with the result. Was he the best dancer – No, did he entertain – Yes.

Some people seem to forget that whilst it is a dancing show it is also an entertainment show and Aidan showed us all that you can go from zero to hero. If he can do it anyone can and even if you don’t feel confident enough to do a Tango up the aisles of Super Value you may be able to give your significant other a twirl around the kitchen.
The country went into such a state over this result I think the only thing I can compare it to was when Chris Hollins beat Ricky Whittle. (I was delighted with that result too). We will leave you as a divided country with half delighted for Aidan and the other half thinking it’s a scandal like no other and the girls were robbed.

This has concluded a fabulous first season which is sure to return as it has given us all something to talk about other than sport and politics. I would like to thank @scd_support for allowing me to do this review and to all of you, who had read, commented and messaged me, I really appreciate it.

Till next year, KEEP DANCING

Thank you for another brilliant review Sarah! You really do deserve a chocolate glitterball for all your efforts. We’d love to hear what you thought of the series, if you’ve been lucky enough to watch it. Did it amaze you? What did you think of the result too? Tell us by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you.

DWTS Ireland – The Semi Final Review by our Irish Reporter @byrnesarahnow 💃🏻🇮🇪🍀🇮🇪💃🏻

If you’ve been following our blog, you’ll know we’ve been following events in Ireland on their version of our favourite show. We can hardly believe it but it’s the semi-final. In this post, our Irish reporter Sarah, gives her take on the semifinals.

Failte romhat mo chara, this weekend we celebrated St Patrick. So as the Irish luck would have it, there was Irish music to be danced to and so much green it made you feel all patriotic.
When Amanda and Nicky came on stage Amanda had on a black dress, with a bejewelled green belt and green earrings which while lovely was very subtle considering we were celebrating St Patrick.

Once the judges came out I understood why. Brian had on a green suit (sadly not the ones they were selling for the Euros), Loraine had a lovely green dress but looked like she was ready to step into a marching band with those French plaits and Julian was well Julian.

This week our Stars had to learn two dances and the first round of dances were all to be danced to Irish Music, think they could of carried this off for both rounds but sadly not.

Denise & Ryan

– Contemporary Ballroom -28 – Hozier

– Cha Cha – 27

Two very different dances for Denise who was injured before the show but she pulled it off brilliantly. She was able to showcase her fluidity of movement in one while showing her cheeky sassy side in the other.

Aidan & Valeria

– Jive – 20 – Sing Street

– Waltz – 24

Poor Aidan, he may be a new dad but he has dad dancing down to a fine art. His long legs may have served Kerry well but they did nothing for him in his Jive. The Jive showed the massive divide between him & the rest of the semi finalists but then he came back with the Waltz. This dance saw him back in his comfort zone & I thought he was under marked as he showed real improvement compared to his Jive.

Dayl & Ksenia

 – Rumba – 28 – Westlife

– Quickstep – 26

Dayl loves dancing, it is clear to see on his wee face so it was no surprise when he was able to execute two amazing dances. The rumba which is very hard for male celebrities to do seemed like a walk in the park for Dayl & he looked as comfortable with the Quickstep. Job well done.

Aoibhin & Vitali

– Contemporary Ballroom – 30 – Sinead O’Connor

– Charleston – 30

Aoibhin was very lucky in her dances the weekend, as she had two very expressive & free moving ones which in turn allowed her to have a prefect score. I’m not saying she didn’t deserve the scores but she makes it seem like she woke up being able to do the dances whereas the rest seem to struggle.
Aoibhin also paid a very respective tribute to four heroic members of the Irish Coast Guard Rescue 116, Captain Dara Fitzpatrick has been laid to rest, however the search continues for Paul Ormsby, Mark Duffy & Ciaran Smith. Di bheith in eineacht leat.
With all the dances done its time to let our pros do their thing while the rest of us do our voting.

Since 1995 this next dance has stirred our passions & refuelled the images of what might have been if I only stuck with Irish Dancing, I could of been the next Jean Butler or Michael Flatly but sadly no those dreams were not for me. Those were the dreams of the people who graced the dance floor to give us Riverdance. That music always makes my heart speed up & you can see some behind the scene footage of our pros getting a lesson in Irish Dance on their twitter or Instagram accounts.

During the show we get to see our eliminated pros in Nicky’s area and this week they looked mighty strange. Our pro routine was set to that fabulous Donegal singer Enya’s Orinoco Flow.

Curtis channelled his inner batman while Emily brought him into the light all very romantic.

As we had only four couples left the results looked to be a very tense affair.

The first couple saved is Aidan & Valeria. While some of us where cheering for the underdog the realisation appeared that someone other than Aidan was going home.

The twitterverse was not amused.
Next to be saved was Aoibhin & Vitali.

Which left Dayl & Denise in the dance off. Dayl looked like he could cry & Ryan looked like he wanted to punch something or someone!!! If the judges thought picking Aoibhin over Dessie last week was hard imagine the pressure this week.

Denise preformed her Contemporary routine while Dayl did the Quickstep. Now I thought that you had to perform your highest scored dance? Feel free to correct me.
Julian saved Denise while Brian saved Dayl. Deciding vote was Loraine’s and she chose to save Denise.

It is with a sad heart that we say goodbye to Dayl who I think had a shot at winning and the poor thing couldn’t hold back the tears. So is the bromance between Dayl & Aidan over, only time will tell but if we have to take one lesson from this week it is to never ever underestimate the power of the Kerry vote, the GAA vote & the Gardai vote.

Next week is our finals week & I’d love to hear who you thing might win, standout dances, who was voted out before they had a chance to shine because dreams can become a reality and miracles can happen which means Aidan could win this thing.

DWTS Ireland – Icons Week – A review by our Irish reporter @ByrneSarahNow

Over the past 10 weeks, we’ve been following Dancing with the Stars Ireland. We may not be able to watch it due to geoblocking, here in the UK, but have an expert Irish reporter (the lovely Sarah) who has been following it for us. Sunday just gone was Icons week. Here’s what she thought of the show:

This week was all about ICONS and I am pleased to say that our very own style Icon Judge Jules is back with his own tribute to David Bowie. Sad to see Darren go but nice to see Julian back.

We are down to six and soon to be five but who will survive the Dance Off???

First up we have –

Katherine & Kai – Jive – 19

Tina Turner

I don’t think Katherine could have done this dance in week 1, & even though it wasn’t her best she through the kitchen sink at it. She looked like she had a great time performing it but I think they might of had a bit of a practice back stage. Fingers crossed its not them.

Denise & Ryan – Quick Step – 22

Amy Winehouse

These two are starting to annoy me. They are so good when it comes to dancing but Ryan feels like he should just ignore everything & do his own thing. Ryan added Foxtrot to his Quickstep which did them no favours as they only got a 22 and even though the dance was very good they had to rely on public votes. I like Ryan, I really do but some times he just has to Nod, Smile & Agree because he might be hurting Denise’s chances – I hope not.

Dayl & Ksenia – Cha Cha – 25

Justin Bieber

Yes folks you read that right, Dayl chose Bieber as his Icon!!! We can weep for the generation later. They did a really good, cheeky Cha Cha which I enjoyed & so did the judges.

Aidan & Valeria – Charleston – 28

Ray Charles

It is hard for a Donegal person to say anything nice about a Kerry footballer but I have been waiting for this to happen since week 1, such was his breakthrough. This dance had everything from Aidan & got him a 10. It showed a different side to him & I hope he can keep it going in the coming weeks. Absolutely delighted with his performance.

Aoibhin & Vitali – Salsa – 29

Another confident performance from Aoibhin who seems to blooming under Vitali’s teachings. She looked like a professional she was that confident, fantastic performance.

Des & Karen – American Smooth – 17

Billy Joel

While Dancing Dessie may be back he is the Ed Balls of DWTS Irl. He managed the lifts better than Ed but sadly I think even he realises his time might be up.

Everyone has danced and we’ve had hits, misses & jaw dropping surprises so voting lines are open. Whilst we are waiting on the results of the voting we have the usual chit chat to everyone and then we are treated to two amazing Pro Dances.

The first dance is to Man in the Mirror from Thriller Live which will be at The Gaiety Theatre. It was danced with junior dancers and looked so good. The second Pro Dance was just as good and I am really enjoying the live performances.

With the voting closed and those progressing to next week we are down to our bottom three.

Aidan, Katherine & Dayl – notice no Des – twitter was not happy😒

Well now no matter who is in the dance off it is not going to be a happy ending for me and I knew it, Katherine was there with Dayl of all people.

There was really no need for a vote as the nation knew the result – it was with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to Katherine & Kai. Ragin, that my favourites are gone but I will continue to cheer on the rest of the stars.

I know RTE could of pick a better photo of Kai, I mean there must be loads to choose from.

Before I got and weep into a hanky, is Brian getting on anyone else’s nerves when he says “From Brian a….8, 9” I mean come on, save that for a 10 surely. Also the judges seem to have taken a real dislike to Ryan and God love him, he is not helping matters. Anyone else think this or am I imagining it?

Chat to you next week when five become four.

Thank you Sarah. If you were lucky enough to watch the show we’d love to hear what you thought of it. We’d also like to hear who your icons of Strictly have been. Tell us by commenting below or tweeting @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you.

DWTS Ireland – A Week 8 review from @ByrneSarahNow

Unless you’ve been hiding under a sparkly rock for the past few weeks, you’ll know we’ve been following the DWTS Ireland series from the comfort of our own home. We may not be able to watch the series from here in the UK due to geoblocking, however our lovely Irish reporter Sarah has been covering the series for us and reporting on the goings on each and every week. Here’s what she thought of this week’s show:

Before we kick off on this week’s show just a little bit of an update on Judge Jules as some of you have been asking …..well he will be back next week.😊 No word yet on how outrageous the jacket will be but with four weeks to make up for I can only imagine, there is also no word on whether Darren will stay on as a four judge?

We are down to the Magnificent Seven which allowed Amanda & Nicky to cram some about of puns in – now I like these two but they are no Claudia and Tess.

Everyone was reunited and it was back to work as we have elimination this week with the dreaded DANCE OFF, I can hardly wait.

First up

Dayl & Ksenia – Contemporary Ballroom – 28

After the high of last weeks perfect score that Dayl got with Valeria, I think Ksenia was on a mission to do a good job this week. They did a lovely number in bare feet, which involved a very tricky Dirty Dancing lift & it suited Dayl so much so that Darren came them a 10.

Teresa & John – Paso -16

This Paso had very little fire & passion & was more like a gentle stroll in the park I’m afraid. It’s a shame as John is so good I feel he is the Anton of DWTS Irl but hopefully next year he will be able to showcase his talents. Teresa had a great time & her two teenage boys in the audience looked absolutely mortified.

Denise & Ryan – Salsa – 27

It was mentioned a time or fifty that that Ryan was UK & British Pro Latin & Show dance Champion & we can see why but a quick question to all you people on the other side of the water – What’s the difference between UK & British?? I thought it was all the same!!! (can anyone enlighten us? – *scratches her head*)

They did a fabulous number with lots of tricks & content & I thought it would score higher.

Des C & Karen – Viennese Waltz – 19

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Not only were they waltzing to the tune of the Marino Waltz by the Dubliners but Karen had surprised Des by having Dubliner John Sheahan show up & preform the tune for them in rehearsals. Everyone was overcome with emotion & Des did a fantastic job.

Katherine & Kai – Charleston – 23

My favourite couple back together again. This was Katherine’s dance, cheeky & flirty but sadly she was concerned about the lifts & if Kai would be able to lift her. Many of you may not know that Katherine took part in Operation Transformation before this show & she lost 13.5lbs on it & has lost a further stone & a half since. She looks amazing & it’s a hard mind set to overcome but Katherine you are doing great & the envy of the female population.

So send some positive feedback her way @katherinelyncho

Aidan & Valeria – Waltz – 22

Poor Aidan after last weeks pounding I was hiding behind the cushion & hoping for the best & it was like Aidan from week 1. I will admit that I did a little clap I was so pleased for him. His waltz was lovely & lyrical.

Aoibhin & Vitali – Paso – 26

Another good performance from Aoibhin but this Paso had a bit of a contemporary feel to it compared to Vitali’s dark & dangerous one which he performed with Katherine. Sadly no hat trick of 10s but still a very good score.

The Leaderboard

So there you have it all seven have dance, voting lines are open & we have the chit chat with the judges and Stars. We also have a very colourful Pro dance and again some live music, this time from the wonderful Roisin O. Kai & Guilia performed a brilliant Argentine Tango to her music.

So who is through to next weeks Icons week – Katherine, Aidan, Dayl & Des Cahill. Which means Teresa, Aoibhin & Denise are in the bottom three.

Three become two with Aoibhin through to next week. It’s an easy decision for the judges who all opt to keep Denise in the competition.

Teresa showed that she is indeed a classy lady and didn’t “storm” off on what was in no way an Unnecessary Journey for her as it allowed us to see a different side to the wind battered reporter who became an internet sensation.

As I mentioned it’s Icons week next week so we will have to wait & see what they have in store for us. Let me know what you thought @byrnesarahnow or @scd_support

Bye for now

Thank you Sarah! If you know the difference between UK and British or watched the show and would like to let us know what you thought of it, you can comment below or tweet @scd_support. If you’re also up to anything Strictlified soon and would like to blog it for us, send us an email to strictlysupportgroup@aol.co.uk to let us know! We look forward to hearing from you.

DWTS Ireland – Week 7 Review by @ByrneSarahNow (Our Irish Reporter)

If you’ve been following our blog over the past few weeks, you’ll know that Ireland now have their very own version of Strictly. We have a Strictly Superfan as our reporter, Sarah who has been letting us know what happened each week. Here’s her review of week 7!

Hi all,
Well what a treat we had on Sunday night. It was Switch Up Week and we were spoiled.
The show kicked off with a fabulous group number where the couples started in their original pairings and then throughout the dance the switch up couples were revealed. It really was a nice touch because unless you watched Can’t Stop Dancing on Friday you may not have known the new pairs which were picked by the judges. Think next year they should let the public vote.
Good news, Bad news – We still have Darren as a judge which means Julian is still sick but Nicky says he is on the mend. you never know we may end up with four judges before the end of the season.
Des C & Ksenia – Samba – 17

Dancing Dessie was back looking a bit like Hugh Hefner. He gave it his all & the judges were very happy with him despite being sick all week.
Denise & John – Viennese Waltz – 26

Here I don’t know who had more pressure on them Denise or John? John had to live up to Ryan’s brilliant choreography & he stepped up like the pro he is. Their V. Waltz was very dark & dramatic & Denise coped very well.

Katherine & Vitali – Paso – 21

Katherine took a step to the dark side with this dance & I’m glad as again it is showing another side to her. She embraced it & looked like she was having fun. Katherine is firmly in the middle of the pack & needs to take a few risks to catch up on the top three.

Dayl & Valeria – Salsa – 30

A lot of emphasis was put on this dance to be hip hop, I might have missed the bit where it was a fusion dance like the Disco Salsa we had a few weeks back but who better than Dayl to pull it off. It was like a show dance & rave all rolled into one. If you remember Dayl has already had two strikes against him from Brian for his Hip Hop antics but Brian declare this a Home run & Dayl & Valeria gets a PERFECT SCORE -30

In here we get live music – yipee – it’s from The Kinks Muscial coming to Dublin next month – Sunny Afternoon.

Aoibhin & Kai – Foxtrot – 28

Aoibhin has become a great dancer & is handling any dance that comes her way. Kai gave her great choreography & it earned her another 10.

Teresa & Ryan – Jive – 18

Based on resent weeks I think the country as a whole feared for poor Teresa when we found out she had Ryan. How would our nervous reporter cope with no filter Ryan? With no trouble at all. Ryan encouraged her more & Teresa seemed to soften his edges. She improved her score but I think she will be happy to have John back next week.

Aidan & Karen – Samba – 15

It is not often that the Kerry & Dublin are on the same side but that’s what we got with this pairing. Karen’s no holds barred approach to liven Aidan up worked to a certain extent. The fun element was there but he again failed to deliver on technique. The judges were very critical & for another week running Karen was in the firing line. Aidan said he would prefer more constructive criticism & offered to take Brian out to a GAA pitch to see how he would fare.

With no eliminations this week all votes are carried over till next week so we had the usual filler time of chatting with the Stars & Judges. We had another colourful Pro dance & we even spotted Strictly’s AJ & Chloe in the audience and I do believe Neil & Katya are coming over soon.

There was also a hint dropped during the show about a possible Oscars week????
So with everything returning to normal again what will they have in store of us? Oh wait – The Dance Off is coming & they have finally listened to the nation. Happy days.
Bye for now

On the subject of this review, would you like to see a switch-up week on Strictly 2017? (Where couples are switched around.) Tell us by voting in this poll below:

Thank you once again to Sarah for another fab-u-lous review *grants you a glitterball*

DWTS Ireland – A Week 6 Review from our Irish reporter @byrnesarahnow

It’s time for us to venture over to the Emerald Isle for our weekly look at what happened in the world of Dancing with the Stars Ireland.

The lovely Sarah Byrne, our Irish Reporter, has written this wonderful piece for you all. Here’s what happened in Week 6 (the Valentine’s Special!)

Last night saw our Stars get their romance on and get in touch with their softer side, but don’t worry there was also some tough love from the judges. We had Darren Bennett again last night as Julian is still unwell, so Get Well soon Julian.

There was so many talking points of the night that it seemed to start with a slow boil only finishing off with a huge explosion. So to start a massive shout out to the wardrobe department for some stunning costumes so far this season including Amanda’s outfit which set the tone for the night.

So hold on to the one you love, it’s going to be a bit emotional…

Teresa & John – Foxtrot – 15

An improvement on last week but still she seems to be in a marching band at times compared to gliding around the floor. John has been doing a great job and even gave the impression that he Lobbed the Gob on Teresa.

Aoibhin & Vitali – Jive – 28

As you can tell from the score  – We got our first 10 from Loraine & it was for dark horse Aoibhin. She said she wanted to have the Craic & that is exactly what she did. Vitali’s choreography has been amazing & so well suited to his partner.

Aidan & Valeria – Tango – 19

No as a member of An Garda Siochana Aidan should be afraid of nothing but he looked terrified of this Tango which seemed to be a combination of traditional & Argentine. It put in a decent performance but he seems to be holding back.

Katherine & Kai – Quickstep – 21

I will admit that I don’t get Katherine’s brand of humour in her shows but this is a different side to her & I really like these two as a couple. A few mistakes but Katherine made herself the envy of the country when she actually did get to steal a kiss from Kai.😍

 Dayl & Ksenia – Foxtrot – 22

A disappointing dance from Dayl who slipped down the leader board but no doubt will be back up around the top next week just needs to work on his consistency.

DesB & Guilia – Paso – 24

Finally Des upped his game, he embraced all the trademarks – tan, chest out, cape work & knee drags. Did a great job was so pleased for him, he was very comfortable & confident.

DesC & Karen – Cha Cha – 12

Now we all love Des but I think the judges have had enough, so if you scare easily skip forward cause this ain’t pretty. Due to the age difference they decided to do a fun Cha Cha & the judges were not impressed. Not only did Des get scolded for messing up & ditching serious Dessie but Karen got well & truly roasted by Loraine for lack of content & always going for the gimmick. So safe to say Des will have a dance loaded with content next week.

Denise & Ryan – American Smooth – 25

The judges were on roll now & forgot that love was in the air. Ryan introduced a balloon to the dance & while the judges felt the risk did pay off it went on a bit too long. Darren wanted more lifts, Brian only spoke about the balloon really which lead Ryan to ask if they had anything to say about the dancing, which Loraine gave him plenty on. Still a good score but Ryan didn’t appear happy.

Lots of ups and downs there but hang on to your hats there is more to come…

Going to put this out early but there was problems with the graphics for voting, just bear that in mind.

Voting opened & Nicky spoke to our Stars who had been on an emotional roller coaster and while that was great and all we all knew that the Pro Dance was coming up and we couldn’t wait. Fifty Shades hit DWTS and it was all kinds of hot 🔥I will put it up on twitter for you all to watch as no words do it justice.

We also got word that next week is Switch Up week, now we haven’t seen this on Strictly but it has been on DWTS USA. The results will be announced on Can’t Stop Dancing on Friday @ 8.30pm RTE ONE. Looking forward to this.

Voting closed and there was tension in the air.

Down to our bottom three Des B & Des C & Denise. Two looked surprised to be there and one not so much. The couple leaving this week is Des B & Guilia.

Nicky you said the wrong Des, come on make it right. No it’s true folks and Twitter went into meltdown as you can imagine and no one was more surprised than Des Cahill since Hughie was when he left. Remember I said there was  problem with the voting graphics, well I’m not saying this is why DesB was voted out but it is defiantly one theory out there.

Well there you have it, while we brace ourselves for the fall out from DESBISXIT it just shows the course of True Love certainly didn’t run smooth last night and there really was a Murder on the Dance-floor.

Any ideas on who you would like to see as new couples for the switch up next week let me know @byrnesarahnow or @scd_support

Take care

Strictly Come Dancing Live – 2017! – A Review

Friday night was an extra special night in our household. Not only was it time for us to head off to Wembley to see the Strictly tour, but it was the youngest member of the Strictly Support Group’s first outing to a tour. Yes, little Elodie (aged 2) went to Wembley.

As we arrived and prepared ourselves for what was set to be an uh-may-zing night, we were greeted by the sparkliest and largest Glitterball we had ever seen. It was so fab-u-lous, both our girls wanted to take it home with them. *gives the Strictly Tour team an idea for merchandise next year.*

Before we knew it it was time for the show to start. We had been excited about this tour for many months. Not only was it the tenth anniversary of the Strictly Tour, but it was also a bit emotional as it’s Len’s last outing as judge on the tour. We were also over the moon that 6 of our favourite members of the Class of 2016 were performing Ore, Danny, Louise, Daisy, Lesley and Ed. It looked set to be an amazing night.

The show did not disappoint. With more professional dancers on tour than ever before, we were treated to some of our all-time favourite Strictly Routines.

The “pillowtalk/cell-block tango” routine wowed us and had us on the edge of our seats (especially as there was an aerial performer thrown into the mix too.

The West-Side Story routine captivated us with the romantic love story between Janette and Aljaz followed by Karen Clifton portraying Anita from West Side story perfectly!

The show kicked off with the energetic Hairspray group number from Blackpool. We felt it appropriate they danced to the song “nicest kids in town.” This year’s cast came across as the nicest and loveliest cast on Strictly ever. We had not one, but 15 favourites, and they truly were the Nicest Kids in Town. Little Bella loved it so much she did not stop dancing throughout the routine.

We were also treated to some of our favourite routines from each of the couples.

Daisy and Aljaz performed their groovy Salsa and their unforgettable waltz, which moved us to tears it was so beautiful.

Ed and Katya performed their American Smooth and their Gangnam Style Salsa. There was a roar of applause when Ed performed the lift that almost became a disaster perfectly and we were also happy to have seen the routine that became one of our highlights of 2016, Ed doing Gangnam!

Louise and Kevin performed that perfect Paso for which we have one word, #slay, and their hoedown of a quickstep which brought us joy and made us smile from start to finish.

Ore and Karen performed the Jive and Showdance. Both these routines were two of our favourites from the live shows, and their energy as well as their passion for dancing shone through in each performance. They really did do Joanne proud!

Lesley and Gorka performed the quickstep and charleston. We can honestly say Lesley’s energy is admirable. She’s in her 70s yet kept up with people half her age. It led to my 6 year old telling me that she wants to be able to dance like that when she’s 70!

The winners on the night were Danny and Oti who performed their perfect Charleston and THAT Samba. Both dances were even more impressive seeing them in the arena. We’re sure that Danny has a career ahead of him in the West End. What was more touching was that he could not believe he received a Standing Ovation for that Samba.

As well as the dancing, we also had some comedy moments including Craig attempting the Gangnam Style (after a challenge from Ed,) Len letting us know he still sleeps with his Ninja Turtles (glad we’re not alone!,)  Kevin’s pleas for votes (and a tantrum at the end when they didn’t win 😂 – he is the king of comedy!) Gorka’s attempt at Cockney Rhyming Slang and Katya showing off the knowledge she has gained from dancing with Ed Balls.

All those performing shone bright like stars on the Dancefloor and we must also give credit to Anita Rani (last year’s tour runner up and Strictly 2015 contestant) who did a brilliant job hosting the tour. Credit also has to go to Karen Hardy who turned judge on our couples. Her knowledge and her comments made us realise that she could easily step into Len’s shoes. We also loved that she gave Ed a 10 for his Gangnam Style routine!

We say this every year and will say it again, this year’s tour was better than ever. Yes, it was the tour’s 10th anniversary, but it wowed and amazed us even more than we thought it would. From the production to the costumes, to the music, to the dancing, everything was pure class! Strictly just keeps getting better and better. We cannot wait to see what the team have up their sleeves for 2017.

Strictly, Thank you for an amazing night. From us, you score a 10/10 with a sparkly Glitterball on top!

If you’ve been to see the tour, we’d love to hear what you thought of it! Tell us by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below to let us know. We look forward to hearing from you.
