Strictly News at Ten(ish) – Let the sparkly madness begin! πŸŽ‰

There are now only 10 more days until Strictly Sambas back onto our screens. To say we’re excited would be the understatement of the year!

Today our celebrities, professionals and hosts met up for the very first time this year. It was the first day at Strictly School. There was much excitement all around and we learnt that the boys know how to shake what their mamma gave them:

It’d seem it was a very fun day! We also had some exciting news that Strictly will launch on our screens on Sparkle-day – Saturday 5th September 2015 at 7pm on BBC One! We cannot wait!

There was also some fab-u-lous It Takes Two News. Zoe, Ian and Karen will be back and Zoe will have two sidekicks. Robin Windsor and Joanne “from Grimsby” Clifton will be joining the It Takes Two team. This does mean that Joanne won’t be competing on the show, but will be presenting, becoming a dance expert and taking part in the pro dances. It Takes Two will also be on for an hour every Friday, which will make us even more excited for the weekend, and there’ll be a live audience too! (OMG – Oh My Glitterballs!) Congratulations to these two on their new roles. Their excitement makes us sure they’ll be fab-u-lous:

Onto our final news tonight. Tinkerbell has officially joined the Strictly Ballroom. Yes, actress Helen George was revealed as the 13th Contestant on Strictly 2015. Having seen her dancing on Call The Midwife we think she’ll be fab-u-lous, and can’t wait to see who she’s paired with. The final two celebrities will be revealed tomorrow night from 7pm on The One Show. Who do you think Helen will be paired with and who else would you like to see fill the final two places on Strictly 2015? Comment below or tweet @scd_support to let us know.

All this talk has got us super excited and we can now officially say Let the Sparkly Madness Begin! Strictly is nearly here.

We’re back tomorrow night from 7pm to reveal the winners of our back to school giveaway as well as the reveal of the final 2 members of the cast of Strictly 2015.

Puttin’ On The Ritz (@theritztour) a review by @janelottering

When we heard there was a new Strictly inspired show coming to the New Wimbledon Theatre, we were keen to go, but were gutted when we found out we couldn’t make the dates (#sadface 😞.) The lovely Jane went along and agreed to review the show for us.

Puttin on the Ritz New Wimbledon Theatre

Starring Robin Windsor Kristina Rihanoff Trent Whiddon Gordanna Whiddon and Pixie Lott

Puttin on the Ritz, is a mixture of music dance and song, covering the 1930’s 40s and 50’s. With music and songs from the amazing George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin.

A group of dancers take us through the above decades with toe tapping hand clapping songs. With wonderful performances from Strictly’s Robin Windsor, Kristina Rihanoff, Trent and Gordana Whiddon and Strictly contender Pixie Lott. There’s not just one highlight, but a series of fab-u-lous routines throughout the whole show.

This makes for an enjoyable and fun evening for all lovers of good music and dance, of all ages.

The whole show sounds amazing & being a huge fan of the 1940s and 1950s we want to go now! Putting on the RItz is now embarking on a Tour around the Uk. For full dates and information, please visit http://www.puttinontheritztour.com

If you’re going to the show or have been, we’d love to hear what you think/thought of it. Just tweet @scd_support or comment below to let us know.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

The People’s Strictly – A Q&A with the wonderful Anna Kennedy (@annakennedy1)

It’s Mother’s Day tomorrow and as a daughter I can honestly say that mothers are amazing and inspirational. They do so much for their children and one of The People’s Strictly contestants was no exception. Anna Kennedy is in fact a supermum and we’re sure that her two sons Angelo and Patrick will be extremely proud of her.

Anna and her professional partner Robin. Pic credit to BBC

Before last night’s Comic Relief and the People’s Strictly results, we asked Anna some questions. We started by asking her this “Over the last few weeks we’ve seen you fall in love with dancing and become truly strictlified. What’s been the best part of being involved in the show?”

Anna – For me, the best part about being involved was the training and the awareness raising for autism. This was a fantastic platform to raise more awareness. So much so, after I danced the Charleston with Robin and my story was shared my retweet reach went to 5.2 million!!!

Wow! That’s incredible. You were paired with the lovely Robin Windsor and had the fantastic Jake Wood as your mentor. What was it like learning to dance with Robin and having Jake as your mentor?

Anna – I love dancing with Robin Windsor. I feel like that we have always danced together. We work well as a team and are soo in sync with each other when dancing. Jake Wood is so lovely and was very supportive and great with my sons. Making tea for Jake in my kitchen was surreal!

It’s not every day that Max Branning comes into your kitchen. We saw you perform a perfect (and extremely fast) Charleston on the People’s Strictly, earning you a well-deserved 40/40. You looked a natural. What was the most challenging part of the dance for you?

The most challenging part of performing the Charleston was definitely the facial expressions and being lifted, We had such fun with a lesson specifically on facial expressions. Receiving 4 x 10s was mind blowing!!

As a mum myself, I know that sometimes you find yourself juggling lots of things at once. How did find fitting Strictly rehearsals into your very busy and hectic schedule?
Anna – To be honest it was difficult to make time some weeks we had 3 sessions, others only 2 and one week we only had one session. I am a quick learner; in fact I almost learnt the whole dance in the first lesson (held together with safety pins) πŸ˜†. I am very hard on myself and Robin kept saying “Don’t be so hard on yourself Anna! It’s only our first lesson!”
You were a natural dancer and did brilliantly. If you could perform on Strictly again, which dance style would you want to perform and why?

Anna – If I was to perform on Strictly and would love to dance on the series of Strictly hint hint lol I would like the samba Since I love the music and am a good hip wiggler lol I wanted to thank everyone for their support it has been HUGE and I have had the best time ever!!!

Finally, you are a true inspiration to many and have had lots of support from all the fans. What advice would you give anyone hesitant to take up dancing?
Dancing gives you the best feeling ever. It also helps you with posture , increases flexibility and is soo much FUN! The world would be a better place if everyone learnt to dance.

If I was to perform on Strictly and would love to dance on the series of Strictly hint hint lol I would like the samba Since I love the music and am a good hip wiggler lol I wanted to thank everyone for their support it has been HUGE and I have had the best time ever!!!

Samba Saturday – We’re Off To The Car Wash!

*Beep beep* Our car is meant to look sparkly and shiny, just like the glitterball, but it’s been a little bit neglected over the last few weeks (Sorry Tigger the Tiguan!) To help inspire us today, we decided to show you this dance earlier, and it really worked. We’re pretty sure that the sight of some gorgeous male dancers wearing dungarees helped, but think the whole feel-good spirit of the dance made us take our car to the car wash straight away.

Today we’re watching the wonderful Team RIro (Lisa Riley and Robin Windsor) with their high-energy, bouncy, bubbly, colourful, split-filled, fab-u-lous Samba. It was a dance that made us smile and want to get up and dance, as well as go along to the car wash.

We clicked our heels together, but sadly it wasn’t to be. We didn’t get a recreation of this samba. (#sadface.) A girl can only dream. Next time we go to the Car Wash we’ll close our eyes and hope this happens. Here are Lisa and Robin with their wonderful Samba. We hope you enjoy it:

The People’s Strictly – Show 2 Recap

Earlier this evening we sat down, girded our loins and prepared ourselves to watch the wonderful programme that is the People’s Strictly. Following last week’s show, we ensured we had enough glittery tissues for ourselves and you lovely people along with Strictly Snacks to share out.

On tonight’s show we saw the inspirational Anna Kennedy, Trishna Bharadia and Phil Barnett get the surprise of their lives as they found out they were on The People’s Strictly and take their first steps in the Ballroom.

Once again, we found the stories truly touching and became emotional blubbering messes only 5 minutes into the show. We think our mascara may have run, just a little bit:

Artist’s impression of how we looked (We’re not that fluffy, honest!)

The show didn’t disappoint and showed us how truly amazing and selfless the 6 contestants of the People’s Strictly are. They are all well-deserving of their place on the show and in our eyes are all winners.ο»Ώ

So, what did we learn tonight?

1. We learnt that the Strictly ballroom is the place where dreams come true and to never to be too trusting of any friends or family who invite you to go to watch the Strictly live show show. As Anna Kennedy found out the Strictly Ballroom truly is a place where dreams can come true and where you can have the shock and surprise of your life.

2. Never trust Brian the Zumba instructor. When you’re invited to a Zumba DVD recording, always be suspicious, especially if you’re surrounded by dancing couples. Be even more suspicious if some of our professional dancers appear. Poor Trishna looked like she needed a hug dancing all alone in the zumba studio, but to make up for it, she was lucky enough to get to have a boogie with Louis Smith 😍

3. Singing children are adorable and will move you to tears (need more mascara 🐼.) ABBA’s Thank You for the Music also works surprisingly well as a Samba Track.

4. You should embrace and run towards the sequins and anyone associated with the world of Strictly. This is exactly what Phil Barnett did and he looked fab-u-lous running towards Lisa Riley and Kevin Clifton.

5. To quote Anna, we also learnt that Robin Windsor looks even better in the flesh than he does on TV! We also saw that Anna is a natural performer and picked up dancing the Charleston in seconds. Wow!

6. We learnt that housework can be fab-u-lous! We will now mop our floors in style, just like Aljaz Skoranjec did. We may need the “banana band” to help. We saw that Trishna and Aljaz take their first Jive steps. Their energy looks great and together they look an amazing and very strong couple.

7. Phil also showed just what a joy it is to dance and to be on Strictly. His joy at learning he was paired with Janette was priceless and their American Smooth looks set to be super suave, smiley and sophisticated. In fact, all our couples showed enthusiasm, passion and sheer sparkly joy.

8. When dancing wear shoes that make you look fab-u-lous. Don’t worry if you fall out of them, as you will look gaw-jus dahling!

9. Swing Patrol looks fun, as did Trishna’s 50s style evening. *nudges husband to take her out* It gave both Anna and Trishna a taste of what Strictly is like and has encouraged us to take a trip back to the 1950s and try Rock and Roll and Swing dancing.

On a more serious note, we saw another wonderful and inspiring programme. It has made us realise that all 6 contestants are truly deserving of their place on the show and are all winners in our eyes. They are true everyday heroes who deserve to be treated to a little bit of sparkle. We know they will all be fab-u-lous and cannot wait to see their performances.

We’d love to hear what you thought of tonight’s show. Tweet @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

We’ll be back tomorrow night from 9pm as our super six get more treats and surprises from the world of Strictly. Follow us @scd_support on twitter to join in our chat.

Wednesday Warm-Up – It may be Halloween soon, but there are no tricks here, only treats!

Halloween is creeping up on us and with the Strictly Halloween Special this weekend, we’re extra excited!

On Wednesdays, those of you who are new to our blog may not know, we like to show you a dance from the Strictly Archives which relieves your hump day blues.

Today, we thought we’d mix things up and treat you to not just one dance, but two dances. Yes, it’s time for our Halloween Dance Duel, where we show you two amazing Charlestons from Halloween which really captured what Strictly is all about, and then we’ll ask you to choose your ultimate favourite of the two dances.

For the first of our dances today, we’re taking you back to see a spellbinding dance from Lisa Riley and Robin Windsor. Although not technically perfect, the characterisation and entertainment value in this dance were infectious and we really loved it. Robin playing the geek perfectly and was truly under Lisa’s spell.

For the second of our dances we took you on a trip to the pictures to see a creepily captivating Charleston from Susanna Reid and Kevin (the werewolf from Grimsby) Clifton. This dance can only be described in several words, fab-u-lous, fun, a-may-zing, expressive and well words can’t describe Kevin dressed up as a werewolf. We loved this dance and it was one of our favourite ever Halloween performances.

Both these dances are truly amazing, but in true Strictly Support Group style, we know there’s only one way to pick the ultimate winner, and that’s with a poll! Just vote in this poll below to pick your favourite of the two dances and we’ll reveal it after 8pm tonight.

Get voting!

We’d love to hear what you thought of both these Charlestons. Comment in the box below to let us know.

Have a great day!

Favourite First Dance – The Results

So you may remember, the other day we held a poll to choose what you thought was the Ultimate Favourite First Dance you’d ever seen on Strictly.

The unanimous winner was Lisa Riley and Robin Windsor with their Cheeky Cha Cha Cha.

We have to agree these two made a great first impression and soon became Dark Horses of the competition.

We loved the choreography and how well it suited Lisa’s strengths and showed off her bubbly personality, strength and love of dance, so full marks to Robin for that one!

Thank you to all who voted in our poll. We’ll be hosting polls throughout the series, so keep an eye on here to take part.

Tango Tuesday but not as we know it!

As you know, this week we’re showing you some of our favourite ever first dances. Today has traditionally been Tango Tuesday, but today we’re also throwing a Cha Cha into the mix. No, we’re not reliving Kimberley and Pasha’s Fusion Ta-Chango, but today we’ve chosen to show you Mark Ramprakash and Karen Hardy’s Cha cha. I’ve let my mum choose our Tango from (her favourites) Deborah Meaden and Robin Windsor.

Mark Ramprakash and Karen Hardy’s Cha Cha
Given this was performed in week 1, Mark came out of his shell and performed this dance with conviction, confidence and lots of cheekiness. He had great natural rhythm, a gorgeous smile (which melted the hearts of many, including Arlene!) and was a born-dancer. Karen’s choreography was brilliant and suited his strengths. We loved the dance and for us it is still one of our favourite first dances. Here are Mark and Karen with their Cha Cha Cha:

Deborah Meaden and Robin Windsor’s Tango
It’s Tango Tuesday so we couldn’t leave you without a Tango, as that would just be cruel. This dance has been chosen by my mum. She is a huge Dragon’s Den and Deborah Meaden fan, which is why this is her favourite first dance of all time. It showed Deborah off in a completely new light. Robin truly tamed a dragon and she performed a credible transfer from the boardroom to the ballroom. She captured the dramatic nature of the dance and showed her true passion for dancing. For my mum, the best part was seeing Deborah out of her comfort zone and performing so well under pressure. It’s clear to say she loved it, so here it is from my lovely mum to you lovely people.

Those are our favourite first dances for today. We’ll be back with more tomorrow. At the end of the week we’ll be giving you another poll to decide your ultimate favourite first dance from the dances we’ve shown you! We’d love to hear what you thought of these two dances. Tweet us @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Monday Memories – Two of our favourite ever first dances

As we write this post, there are only 4 days until Strictly shuffles its way back into our lives. Yes! Our weekends are planned right up until Christmas, and they look glittery, sparkly and a-may-zing!

This week, we’re sharing some of our #favefirstdances with you. Everyday we’ll show you two routines where our celebrities have made a good impression, have entertained or just danced their hearts out!

Today we’ve chosen to show you two dances from the glittery archives. The first, first dance we chose is Abbey and Aljaz’s tearjerkingly beautiful waltz. This dance was simple, understated and captured the true emotion of the waltz. Abbey looked gorgeous (as ever) and performed the dance beautifully. We were left desperately seeking kleenex and feeling a little teary-eyed. We loved it and thought for a first dance it was just gorgeous! It landed them an amazing 32 points too. Here it is along with a pack of kleenex just for you, Abbey and Aljaz’s Waltz:

For our second dance today we felt that we’d got a little too emotional this morning, so we needed a lift! For us, no first dance cheered us up more than Lisa Riley and Robin Windsor’s cheeky Cha-Cha. Here Lisa made a great first impression and proved she was the dark horse of series 10. She had natural rhythm, charisma, bags of enthusiasm, a true love of all things dance and a great friendship with Robin. The Cha-Cha sections were brilliant too and Robin’s choreography was imaginative. Craig even stated “dahling! you can dance!” One of our favourite ever quotes from the book of Revel Horwood. It is one of our favourite ever First Dances and we hope you enjoy watching it. Here are Lisa and Robin with their Cha-Cha:

Those are today’s #favefirstdances. We’ll have two more every day until on Friday when we’ll launch a poll to help you decide the ultimate First dance.

Have a wonderful day.

Foxtrot Friday – A Dance You’ll Fall in love with

Earlier today we brought you the 2nd of our Q&As from the lovely Lisa Riley, so when choosing today’s dance, it only seemed right to pick her lovely Foxtrot with Robin Windsor.

For us, this dance (like all their dances) showed their friendship perfectly. The photobooth at the top of the routine reminded us of Saturday afternoons as teenagers taking embarrassing but funny pictures with friends. Robin’s choreography suited them down to a tee and they both performed it brilliantly.

The music and costumes were fantastic and we loved the dance overall. It’s the sort of dance which can make even the grumpiest person smile, so if you know someone in a bad mood today, show them this! We guarantee it’ll turn their frowns upside down and they’ll genuinely fall in love with it! Here are Lisa and Robin with their lovely, friendly Foxtrot:

We hope you enjoyed watching that dance. Tweet us what you thought of it @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
