I like unicorns a lot! They’re better than horses because they fly and they look really pretty and fluffy. They’re magical too and I’m going to ask Santa for one this year.
On Strictly, there have been lots of magical moments and the American Smooth is a really magical dance, because there are lots of lifts which make us girls look like we’re flying (like a unicorn.)
Over the last 2 series that I’ve watched Strictly, I think there are lots of magical American Smooths, just like these in the video playlist below. Sometimes, it’s not just the best American Smooths which are the most magical, but the ones which are most fun to watch:
Now you’ve watched all those dances, I’d like you to let me know which is your favourite. Tweet me @scd_support or comment below to let me know.
I’m off to the farm to see some horses unicorns without horns. Have a great day!
Today, my lovely friend Serene turns 30 (even though she only looks about 12 – lucky thing) & as a special Birthday treat, I did some undercover detective work earlier on this week, looking a little like this guy (but less fluffy) to find out what her favourite American Smooth was.
She (being an indecisive lady) picked Louis and Flavia’s fabulous dance. She loved this dance for several reasons:
1) She likes the quickstep and quickstep based American Smooths
2) It showcased Louis’s strength (and muscles) 😍
3) The staging and music were great, along with Flavia’s choreography and Louis’s breakdancing/gymnastics section in the middle.
4) It was a perfect fusion between 1940s and modern-day dance and was an amazing performance overall.
I think it’s a great choice and really enjoyed watching it. I hope you will too:
*Checks the Strictly Support Group rule book* Sundays are normally Smooth Sundays where you show an American Smooth. *rips up said rule book*
This week, I’ve decided to change the rules and show a Showdance in honour of last night’s fab-u-lous final! I’ve chosen Natalie and Artem’s showdance from last year’s final.
This dance was not only technically perfect but featured every dance style imaginable as well as lots of jumps tricks and poles. Natalie looked stunning in green which is an achievement in itself. On a more slightly serious note, it left us grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
So, here it is, just for you Natalie and Artem’s fab-u-lous showdance. We hope you enjoy it:
We’d love to hear what you thought of this dance. Tweet @scd_support or comment below. We’re also hosting a poll to find your favourite showdance. Just vote below and we’ll reveal the results on Tuesday after 7.30pm:
For today’s Smooth Sunday we’re taking you somewhere over the rainbow to watch a magical American Smooth from the archives.
Today it’s Remembrance Sunday and we’re going back to 2009 to see this beautiful dance from Natalie Lowe and Ricky Whittle. This dance brings back lots of memories for us so seemed a appropriate for Remembrance Sunday.
When we first saw this dance we did get a little emotional and thought it was soft, floaty, romantic and everything an American Smooth should be.
The song choice brought a tear to our eye and Hayley and the band performed it brilliantly. Natalie’s dress was stunning, the choreography and lifts were beautiful and it made our eyes very leaky.
We loved this dance and from us they deserved a 10. We hope you enjoy watching it.
We’d love to hear what you thought of it. Tweet us @scd_support, comment on our new facebook page (Strictly Support Group) or below. We’d love to hear from you.
Last night, some couples wowed us with their dancing and some let nerves get the better of them. Today, we’re watching Gethin and Camilla’s fabulous American Smooth.
Camilla’s choreography on Strictly was creative, inventive and original. We do miss seeing her on the show, but this dance highlighted all these elements and Gethin performed it beautifully. Camilla’s yellow dress was beautiful too.
This dance was super smooth and relaxed and is guaranteed to get rid of any pre-results show nerves you may have. We know that last night you’d have been feeling extra tense voting for your favourites, so really hope this helps and would love to hear what you thought of it. Here are Gethin and Camilla with their American Smooth.
We’ll be here tonight for the results show with a chat. Hope you can join us then.
We have to admit, today we are slightly disappointed by the weather, as it’s looking distinctly dull and dreary.
When looking for a dance, we thought, what better an idea than to show a dance that will not only make you sing, but dance in the rain. Today we’ve chosen to show you Kristina Rihanoff and Jason Donovan’s fabulous Singing in the Rain inspired American Smooth.
We loved this dance for several reasons:
1) The Music – As ever, the band surpassed themselves and provided the perfect accompaniment to this brilliant dance.
2) The Choreography – Kristina’s choreography is always inventive, and this dance was no exception to the rule. The lifts were creative (fancy using an umbrella to help in one of them too!)
3) The Dancing – Was beautiful and words cannot describe it!
4) They used an umbrella indoors and proved that umbrellas are not bad luck!
We loved this dance and hope you will too. Here are Jason and Kristina with their magnificent, American Smooth. Hope it brightens up your day:
We have to admit despite a mini heatwave this week, the weather has been pretty miserable this weekend, so for today’s Smooth Sunday fix, we needed a dance to make us smile.
Lots of American Smooths have made us smile, but the quickstep based ones normally leave us grinning just like the Cheshire Cat. They are quick, bright and full of flair, sophistication and style.
For today’s Strictly fix, we’re taking you back to 2008 and Rachel Stevens and Vincent Simone’s wonderful 1st American Smooth. Although they performed another dance in the semi-final, their first American Smooth still remains our favourite.
Rachel dazzled in a sunshine yellow dress. The music (as always) was brilliant. The choreography was amazing, and the dancing pure perfection. The lifts suited the dance perfectly and in our opinion it should have been awarded 10s across the board!
We loved it and hope you enjoy it too. Here is today’s Smooth Sunday fix courtesy of Rachel and Vincent:
We really want to know what you thought of that dance. Tweet us @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
Today we’ve blended up a fruit Strictly smoothie for you with not 1, but 2 American Smooths from the archives.
Our first dance is dedicated to ”My Girl,” my 4 year old Bella, who’s been so grown-up, brave and just adorable over the last few weeks, I couldn’t resist dedicating a dance especially to her. If you follow my personal twitter account, you will see some of her very funny comments, which always make me laugh no matter what mood I’m in. We’re showing you Zoe Lucker and James Jordan’s American Smooth which was elegant, beautiful and left us beaming from ear to ear. Here it is just for you:
We love spoiling you here at the Strictly Support Group, so when we heard it was one of the professional dancer’s birthdays, we dedicated a whole American Smooth to them. It’s the amazing and inspirational Iveta Lukosiute’s birthday today. It’s also Camera Day, so her American Smooth with Mark Benton seemed an appropriate way to celebrate her special day. Iveta, we hope you enjoyed your birthday wish from us and have a wonderful day too. Here it is, incase you missed it earlier:
We hope you loved your double Strictly Fix. In honour of it being Camera Day, we’ve launched our Instagram page a day early! Follow us @scd_support to be reminded of some of the fabulous glittery memories from the Strictly Archives! We’re also asking you to let us know your favourite ever Strictly pics especially for Camera Day. Tweet us @scd_support and we’ll give as many of you as we can a shoutout!
As you know, apart from the odd marathon training session, Sundays are chill-out days in our household, a time for reflection and a chance to watch one of our favourite dances, the American Smooth.
For us, this is one of our favourite ballroom dances, edged very closely into second place by the athletic and energetic quickstep. We love the soft, smooth elegant foxtrot with the added flair of lifts, spins and freedom to have fun. We can only compare it to the things we love and it is like a hug in a mug.
For today’s dance we’re watching some of our pros perform a perfect specimen of an American Smooth. This was from the Halloween special in 2011, in case you’re wondering why they are wearing masks, but just shows how amazing they all are. We hope you enjoy watching this dance:
We’d love to hear what you thought of this dance. Do you have a favourite American Smooth you’ve seen on strictly. If so, tweet @scd_support or comment below. We’d love to hear from you.
Over the last few months, our Sundays have been anything but smooth as we’re training and dreading looking forward to running the London Marathon.
If there’s one dance that brings us back down to normality and makes us feel relaxed on a Sunday, it’s the American Smooth. It’s warm, floaty and when danced well leaves you feeling all fuzzy inside. It’s a little like your mum’s Sunday Roast, the dance equivalent of comfort food, although with the lifts, we doubt that the couples would have eaten too many roast potatoes or Yorkshire puddings before dancing these beautiful routines.
As we’re away for the day, we thought you deserve not one, but two American Smooths today. After last night’s chat, you’ve really inspired us again with your enthusiasm, and for that we’re grateful.
Today we’re going back to 2008 and 2011 to see the wonderful Rachel and Vincent and Harry and Aliona’s American Smooths. Both these dances were sublimely choreographed, beautifully danced and performed. The music, costumes and dances were tear-jerkingly beautiful too.
Here they are, again with a side order of glittery tissues, just for you all. We hope you enjoy watching them:
