Strictly 2016 – The Quotes Of The Series

We can always count on Strictly to give us some sparkly pearls of wisdom which we never forget. Nearly 3 weeks after the final, we are reminiscing about quotes that made the series for us!

Earlier today we asked you to tell us your quote of the series, after revealing ours:

We had some brilliant and very memorable suggestions. Here are our (and your) favourites:

So those were your quotes of the series. If you can think of any others, send them to us! You can either comment below or tweet @scd_support to tell us. We look forward to hearing from you.

Strictly – The Things That 2016 Taught us!

We are just hours away from the end of 2016. It’s been a year of shocks and surprises, on and off the ballroom floor, from Ed Balls and that Gangnam Salsa to early and shock eliminations! Here’s what 2016 has taught us:

1.  The Tango is a really tough dance:

This year saw more eliminations from the tango than ever before. Melvin was eliminated in week 2 after his Tango, Tameka in week 3 after her Tango, Lesley in week 5 after her Tango and it got us in a bit of a muddle (mango of a tango!) especially as the Tango is one of our favourite ballroom dances. These three couples had a lot more to give, especially Melvin and Janette, but Justice was restored when they lifted the Christmas Glitter(ball) star!

2. It is possible to do the Salsa to Gangnam Style and if you do it will be remembered forever.

When we heard some of the song choices this year they did make us wonder what dances we were going to see. One particular example was Gangnam Style, for the Salsa 🤔. We do have the best professional dances on planet earth (and planet strictly come to think of it) and Katya’s choreography (as well as Ed’s hard work and dancing) made this one of our favourite routines of the series. Here it is again in case you needed a reminder.

3. Dance-offs and Results shows can surprise and shock us.

Yes, here at Strictly Support Group HQ we had many tears during results show this year. It probably didn’t help that we loved absolutely every single couple on this year’s show and saying goodbye became very tough, week after week. The standard on this year’s strictly was higher than ever, so it made the competition even closer. It made us realise that our favourites really did need our votes to be saved week after week.

4. Kevin Clifton is a Choreography and Teaching Genius!

We can always rely on Kevin from Grimsby to treat us to some awesome choreography. His Paso Dobles have been legendary over the 4 years he has worked on Strictly. This year, we had more Kevin from Grimsby specials as he yet again got all the way to the final. That’s 4 years in a row. His choreography was inspired and really impressed us. Sadly he did not lift the glitterball (it went to his sister instead, but my 6 year old is hoping they’ll share it nicely.) 4 finals in a row! Surely that has to be a record deserving of a Glitterball!

5. 2016 was the year of daring lifts and tricks

We’d seen lifts and tricks but never lifts and tricks like these ever before. The professionals all pushed the bar really high with their choreography and challenged their celebrities to perform to their best. We did have an Olympic Gymnast in the cast which probably helped with the tricks part, but many of them surprised and amazed us. In case you hadn’t seen them before, have a look at our favourites, in this moment from our twitter feed:

6. It was time for Craig to have someone to answer back to!

Yes, Judge Rinder came, danced and conquered the Strictly dancefloor. His reaction to Craig Revel Horwood’s comments were worth the licence fee alongand really unmissable. It was good having a contestant who was willing to answer back especially when the judges were grumpy!

7. It may have been Len’s last series but that didn’t stop his magic!

The King of Strictly has officially left the Strictly ballroom. *sobs* We will really miss him, but even if it was his last year we did have many a “ten from Len” and threats of pickled walnuts throughout this series. We wish him good luck in his future ventures in the USofA and we wish whoever takes over from him a lot of sparkly good luck as they have Len-shaped shoes to fill!

8. A record-breaking year

2016 was a record breaking year for Strictly. Not only did it get the highest audience share and its highest viewing figures but we saw the highest scoring dances ever! We saw the first ever perfect scoring Samba from Danny and Oti and the highest scoring week 4 dance ever from Ore and Joanne (it scored 39.) Even Ed Balls achieved the highest lowest score in week 7 for his quickstep scoring 27 points!

9. It was the year of dance crazes!

We had Ed doing Gangnam Style and Strictly attempting this mannequin challenge on the Christmas Special! Pure television magic again from the wonderful Strictly team!

10. It is perfectly possible to get a perfect score for the Samba

Until this year, we thought it was impossible to get a perfect score for the samba. Then along came Danny and Oti who wowed us and the Judges with a truly brilliant routine, that got 10s across the board. (It also saved us from eating one of our hats) We have to credit Oti this year for bringing some truly incredible choreography to the show. She deserves a glitterball in her own right. We hope she comes back next year.

11. Bruno can stay on his chair for the whole series (well almost)

Yes this year, Mr Tonioli remained firmly seated in his chair *wonders if he got given a seatbelt or a harness* right up until the final when he fell off his chair! We are quite glad of this as we’d hate for him to hurt himself.

12. Never trust Claudia to hold onto something you give her.

Claudia and Tess and their antics always brighten up our Saturday nights during Strictly season. This year, a common theme emerged. Claudia seemed to drop every prop she was asked to hold onto!  We loved these comedy sketches which always made us laugh!

13. Strictly is the best show on TV ever!

Nothing will ever come between us and Strictly. There may have been shocks and surprises this year, but we have to say 2016 has been the best year ever! Thank you for all the memories Strictly and  here’s to many more in 2017!

So, what has 2016 taught you about Strictly? Tell us by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below. We look forward to hearing from you.

We’ll be on twitter (@scd_support)  from 7pm tonight for our first Strictly Support Group post-strictly. Yes, it’s going to be a new year themed chat!

Hope to see you then.

Strictly 2016 – A Christmas Special Round-Up

We’re not sure about you, but Santa has been very generous to us this year. Not only were we treated to some marvellous Strictly gifts in our stocking, but this evening we sat down to watch three of our favourite things combined:

Christmas Movies and

Yes, the wonderful folk at Strictly  treated us to a Christmas Movie themed Christmas Special. Not only was there amazing dancing, we also saw Len give every couple a 10, Craig dressed as the most adorable lion you’d ever seen and we saw Len dance for the last time on the Strictly dancefloor *sobs*

We always love the Christmas specials, especially when they bring back celebrities from past series of the show and tonight was no exception.

We saw Denise Lewis (Series 2,) Gethin Jones (Series 5,) Pamela Stephenson (Series 8,) Frankie Bridge (Series 12,) Ainsley Harriott (Series 13) and Melvin Odoom (Series 14) take to the floor with 6 of our fab-u-lous professionals for a true Christmas Cracker of a show.

We were treated to a Home Alone Jive from Ainsley and Karen which reminded us how much joy Ainsley’s performances brought us and also took us back to the Strictly tour earlier this year.

We were also treated to a Polar Express Quickstep from Chloe and Gethin, which not only showed us what an amazing dancer Gethin us but has also started a campaign for next series #GetChloeaCelebrityPartner.

Pamela and Pasha performed a cheeky Love Actually themed Christmas Cha Cha Cha. It reminded us how much we loved watching Pamela, a natural performer and dancer.

Melvin and Janette then proved they are the cutest Elfs this side of Planet Strictly, with an Elf-themed Charleston. It was full of character and personality and showed Melvin’s full potential. It also proved that they are completely fearless with a lift that became our Christmas GIF:

Finally Gorka and Frankie treated us to a Frozen themed American Smooth. Frankie was always graceful and a beautiful ballroom dancer and this performance showed off her skill as a performer and dancer. It was truly stunning and the icing on a Christmas cake of a wonderful night of dancing.

It was a very close call, but in the end Melvin and Janette triumphed and lifted the Strictly Christmas Mirrorball trophy.

It was Len’s last show too which lead to an impressive tribute and final routine to send him off in style.

We’ll leave you with this thought:

That moment you lose a bet and have to go out dressed like this!

Strictly 2016 – 3 Words!

Three words have filled our Saturday nights for the last few months:

and we can hardly believe that tomorrow night will be the Strictly 2016 Final!

Earlier today we asked you to tell us the three words that have summed up Strictly 2016 for you! For us it has to be these three words:

Here are your fab-u-lous suggestions:

So those are the three words which sum up Strictly for you! We can honestly say that this series of Strictly has been the most epic series ever. Whatever happens tomorrow, we want to say Thank You Strictly for all the memories.

It has been emotional, but I’ll leave you with three words from my little girl, Bella, earlier when I asked her to tell me which words have summed up Strictly for her:

Cassie 🙂

Good Luck Ore and Joanne #TeamOjo 💃🏼

Saturday night looks set to be a truly spectacular night of Strictly when the Clifton siblings will go head to head to fight for the Glitterball!

It’s not just about the professional dancers, but also about their celebrity partners. One couple have capture our hearts with their dances week after week, and that couple is Ore and Joanne!

As an untrained dancer, Ore has shown his ability as a natural performer. He has performed every dance he has been given with style and flair and has a natural knack for picking up the feeling of every dance! Who could forget his American Smooth which not just impressed us here in the UK, but also impressed the late Gene Kelly’s wife? Who could also forget that wonderful Jive of theirs which was not just memorable but legendary!

Whatever happens on Saturday, Ore and Joanne are our peoples’ champions and we are sure they will remain the best of friends.

We’d like this post to become a good luck post for Ore and Joanne. Send us your good luck messages for them and we’ll make sure they see them.

Cassie 🙂

Good Luck Louise & Kevin #TeamLouvin 💃🏻

Saturday will mark a momentous moment on Strictly. It’ll be Len’s last ever Strictly and Kevin’s 4th final in as many years! Now there’s an achievement deserving of a glitterball!

A popular couple, these two have never been in the dance-off. From week one, Louise’s musicality has shone in every performance. Kevin’s choreography has been outstanding and his teaching has helped her transform into a natural performer and dancer. Louise’s confidence has grown in bucketloads and we’ve seen her progress on the biggest journey ever.

Whatever happens on Saturday we will be truly proud of this couple and their achievements!

Send us your good luck messages for Louise & Kevin & we’ll make sure they see them!

Cassie 🙂

Good Luck Danny & Oti #TeamDoti 💃🏻

We’re fast approaching the final and the three final couples are rearing up to go to a dance battle to be crowned the Strictly Champion 2016!

The past 12 weeks have shown us that anything can happen and we’re pretty sure that this weekend’s final will be unpredictable to say the least!

We know that you, our lovely followers, have been brilliant supporting all the couples this year but we’d like to wish all the couples a final good luck wish in advance of the final!

Our first good luck wish is for Danny and Oti!

Every week Danny has amazed us showing us his dancing skill. From week 1 he has been a force to be reckoned with. Together with Oti’s imaginative and creative choreography they have created moments of Strictly magic and moments that will go down in history for ever take for instance that wonderful Samba which scored the first 40 for a Samba ever!

Whatever happens on Saturday, we’re pretty sure Danny will be remembered as one of the greatest Male celebrities of all time!

Send us your good luck messages below for Danny & Oti and we’ll make sure they see them!

Cassie 🙂

Strictly 2016 – A Review of the Strictly Year!

2016 has been a year filled with shocks and surprises both on and away from the Strictly Dancefloor. We are just days away from finding out this year’s champion, and to end what has been a truly epic series, we thought we’d share what we thought have been the defining moments of Strictly 2016!

Ed Balls

Every year has its underdog and this year that title fell to Ed Balls. Yes, week after week we voted to save him after the judges seemed less than impressed by his dancing. He came, he entertained and he summed up what Strictly is all about. I don’t think we’ll ever forget his Gangnam Style Salsa and who else could have landed on the Blackpool Floor whilst sat at a piano which had flames on it? Ed, you may have left Strictly, but you won our hearts and will be remembered for a very very long time!

Len’s Last Series

Early on this series, we learnt that Mr Sev-errrn, Len would be hanging up his judging shoes (or should that be paddles) at the end of this series and would be retiring from the show. We have enjoyed many fantastic Len-isms including him declaring he was a fan of One Direction (until Zayn left) and him telling Ed his Cha Cha Cha was supernatural! We’re pretty sure that this Saturday’s show will be emotional as Len waves goodbye to the Strictly Ballroom. He has always been one for constructive criticism and standing up for the celebrities. We’re pretty sure his replacement will do just the same, but he will be sadly missed.

The most epic theme weeks ever

Theme weeks normally amaze us but this year they were completely epic! We had a wonderful Movies themed week, followed by Blackpool week and then had the most epic one of them all, Musicals Week. All three were novel and went above and beyond what we expected. Strictly does keep getting better and better, and we must congratulate all those involved on a brilliant series (including the theme weeks.)

Pro dances

This year we have been treated to having 17 professional dancers. That has meant that there have been some huge and truly amazing professional dances. One of our favourites has to be this one which really moved us to tears *provides you all with some tissues incase you are prone to emotional outbursts:

Shock exits

There were some very early shock exits! Take for instance, Melvin, Tameka and also Laura who all left the competition with so much more to give. The lovely Will had to quit too, due to personal reasons and results shows became a very tense and emotional time for us all. We’ve never had a series like this series. We loved every single contestant and partnership, which made saying goodbye that little bit emotional.

The Rinder!

If there ever was a contestant who summed up how great it was to learn to dance, it is this guy. His expressive nature and his genuine love of dancing captured the nation’s (and our) hearts. His smile and joy at dancing every week really did make us smile and want to join in along at home too! He has possibly been one of the most expressive contestants and is a man of many expressions! 😀😬☺️🤓 (They should give him his own Emoji keyboard!)

The Terms and Conditions

The antics in the Clauditorium have made our saturdays. The Terms and Conditions, which in many TV shows would be the most boring part of the show, have become so entertaining they have never failed to make us smile!

The glitter, sparkle and magical costumes

Strictly wouldn’t be Strictly without the brilliant costumes, the glitter and all the sparkle! This year’s costumes have been more sparkly than ever before. They have lit up our TV screens and have made the dances look truly beautiful. The Make-up and hair has been off-the-scale uh-may-zing too (we think even Craig would give it a 10!) Combined with the brilliant choreography and music they have made the performances and Saturday night and Sunday night shows fab-u-lous to watch.

The standard of dancing!

We say it every year, but this year’s Standard Of Dancing has been higher than its ever been before. We’ve had celebrities who’ve been good enough to be professionals from week one (take for instance Danny who we found looked like a pro dancer in week 1)  we had the first perfect scoring Samba ever and we’ve had couples testing their limits (Jo and Ore with that longest fleckerl in the history of Strictly ever!)  We’ve also had injuries as a result (Laura’s ankle) from celebrities pushing themselves to produce such high standards of dancing. Credit has to also go to the professional dancers who have choreographed some challenging routines for all their celebrities to perform and impress us!

So those are the moments that sum up Strictly for us this year. What has summed up Strictly for you? Tell us by tweeting @scd_support or commenting below to let us know. We look forward to hearing from you.

Strictly 2016 – Who we think will lift the Glitterball this weekend!

This Saturday Danny and Oti, Louise and Kevin and Ore and Joanne will take to the floor to be crowned the Strictly Come Dancing Champion 2016!

This series has been truly phenomenal and all three couples have impressed us on the dance floor! Here are our verdicts on each of the couples and their chances of winning the Glitterball!

Danny and Oti

Danny has been Mr Consistent. Week after week he has impressed us with his ability. From the start of the competition he looked like a professional and it has become increasingly difficult to tell him apart from the professional dancers in group routines as the show has progressed.

Otis choreography this year has really excited us and having such a talented partner as Danny she has been able to give us some truly magical moments! He has moved with style, flair and panache and week after week he has looked just like Fred Astaire!

We have loved watching him perform on the show and think that he is a deserving winner of the glitter ball for his ability, hard work and the magic he has produced on the dance floor with Oti!

Louise and Kevin

From the start, we knew that Louise would go far as she was in the very safe hands of Kevin! This will be his fourth final in a row, surely that in itself is deserving of a glitter ball?

Louise’s musicality has been amazing. Yes, she is a musician and a singer but learning a new skill cannot be easy.

On another note, Louise has transformed as a performer. From a shy performer in the first group dance to a dancer capable of performing that incredible quickstep in the musicals week special. The growth in her confidence and her development as a performer has been truly incredible. It’s testament to Kevin’s wonderful teaching and being such an encouraging professional.

For growth as a performer and musicality, we think Louise could lift the Glitterball!

Ore and Joanne

Unlike the other two finalists, Ore has never had any dance training. He has proven his ability as a dancer through his ability to connect with the style of the dance and produce a convincing performance week after week.

His friendship with Joanne has shown through in every performance and it even led them to get a brilliant tribute from Gene Kelly’s wife after their American Smooth. We have loved watching Ore develop as a dancer and week after week he has surprised and amazed us!

For natural performance ability Ore could lift the Glitterball!

So, who do we think will lift the Glitterball? Well, we would love to see Danny and Oti lift the Glitterball as they have been the frontrunners for us from the very beginning. All we can say is whoever wins or lifts the glitter ball on Saturday they will truly deserve it and we’d be happy with the glitter ball making its way to Grimsby too!

Who would you like to see lift the Glitterball? Just vote in this poll below to tell us. We look forward to hearing from you:

Cassie 🙂
