Strictly Support Group – The Election (Day 7!) Polling Day is Here!

Earlier this morning, we revealed our final two candidates in our Strictly Support Group General Election! We love the Charleston and today’s two candidates were pure gold! One triumphed for having a cool, laid-back vibe and the other was quirky, cheeky and pure entertainment! They are Sophie and Brendan’s and Chris and Ola’s fab-u-lous Charlestons!

Watching these dances, it’s easy to see why they both deserve their places in the Election:

1) Every election needs a peoples’ champion, and this dance helped Chris and Ola win Strictly 2009. It was cheeky, quirky and captured Chris’s personality perfectly. Both he and Ola looked adorable, in fact more adorable than your favourite politician holding a baby or a puppy or a kitten or something cute!

2) Being a politician is all about remaining cool under pressure and Sophie and Brendan did this perfectly. There

were risky lifts, acrobatics and super fast choreography. All of these were performed perfectly in WEEK 2! The whole routine was brilliant and is deserving of a place in our election for being the leader of the pack. We loved both of them and hope you will too, so here are both dances we showed earlier:

Sophie and Brendan’s Charleston

Chris and Ola’s Charleston.

Now you’ve seen all our dances, here’s a reminder of the candidates (in video form):

You’ve watched and now all that needs to be done is to vote. We are pleased to reveal that voting is now OPEN! *Does a dance like our pros do on Claud 9* You have until 3pm tomorrow to cast your vote for our Strictly Support Group Prime Minister. Just choose your favourite from the poll below. We’ll reveal the result tomorrow evening from 7pm. Get voting people!

Strictly Support Group – The Election (Day 5!)

What do you get if you mix one of the most iconic ballrooms of the world with traditional music and choreography? *hears her brain cogs making a funny noise* Easy! The best ever Paso Doble to have ever been performed at Blackpool  on Strictly Come Dancing, ever!

We couldn’t run a Strictly Support Group General Election without a journalist, so the 5th Candidate in our Ballroom General Election is The Paso Doble from Susanna Reid and Kevin Clifton!

There are several reasons we have chosen this dance as one of our candidates in the election:

1) It was record-breaking – the applause from the crowd broke the loudest ever applause heard on British TV

2) It is, in our opinion the best ever Paso Doble to have been performed on Strictly – It had great music, choreography, drama, passion, story-telling, all the atmosphere of a Spanish bullfight and Kevin from Grimsby in very tight trousers 😍 What more could you ask for from a dance on Strictly?

3) It was our favourite routine of Strictly 2013 and showed how much Susanna had progressed from day 1. It also showed that Kevin is an awesome teacher and choreographer. It really deserved 4 10’s in our opinion (take note Mr Revel Horwood!)

We loved it and hope you will too! Here are Susanna Reid and Kevin from Grimsby with their wonderful Paso Doble:

We hope you enjoyed watching that dance and would love to hear what you thought of it. You can tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.

So Susanna and Kevin join Gethin and Camilla, Mark and Iveta, Alesha and Matthew and Chelsee and Pasha as candidates in our Strictly Support Group Election. Who will be the final two candidates? Join us tomorrow to find out.

Foxtrot Friday – A Dance That Is Too Good To Be True.

For the next few weeks in honour of Strictly Come Dancing Live, all our strictly fixes will be Strictly Tour moments. There have been lots of great foxtrots on the Strictly Tour, but today’s dance was full of traditional choreography and made us smile.

Today we’re watching the lovely foxtrot from Susanna Reid and Kevin Clifton. We were (and still are) huge Team Kevanna fans. Not only was this dance performed to one of our favourite songs, but Kevin choreographed a crowd-pleasing dance that was beautifully romantic. The foxtrot elements were fabulous and this couple floated across the dance floor. The dancing was impeccable too, we’re surprised Craig only gave them 1 10 on the tour.

We loved this dance and hope you will too. Here are Susanna and Kevin with their gorgeous Foxtrot. We hope you enjoy it:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance, tweet us @scd_support, or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Spooky Saturday – Our Top 10 Halloween Routines

This weekend, we’ve ditched the Samba and Salsa and turned it into *clenches teeth and grabs hold of teddy bear in fear* Spooky Saturday! In honour of Strictly’s Halloween special, we’ve dedicated a post to revealing our top 10 Halloween inspired dances.

10. Thriller Group Routine (2012)

No Halloween list would be complete without the obligatory Thriller performance! We love group routines and this one is one of our favourites (partly because we could dance along at home!) The pros and celebrities all looked fierce and we’d have been terrified if we’d saw them on Halloween!

9. Hairy Biker Dave and Karen’s Jive (2013)

Although he wasn’t technically the best dancer, this is a truly memorable routine in my household. My 4 year old loved it, as (in her words) “Dave looked like a Panda!” 🐼 Karen choreographed this to play to Dave’s strengths and his performance was brilliant. He truly did the Monster Mash and it was not just a Graveyard Smash, but a smash with the viewing public at home!

8. Holly and Artem’s American Smooth (2011)

This wasn’t very Halloween themed, but Artem’s balletic choreography was unique and fitted in perfectly with the Swan Lake theme. It was a truly memorable routine which we loved and it’ll certainly go down in history as one of our favourite ever Halloween routines.

7. Kimberley and Pasha’s Pasha Doble (2012)

As you know from last week, we love a good Pasha Doble! The red riding hood concept behind this dance was brilliant, and Pasha definitely made an adorable wolf! The choreography was challenging and Kimberley performed it brilliantly. It was powerful, passionate and perfect for the Halloween show.

6. Time Warp Routine (2013)

Let’s just embrace the madness that is Halloween for a moment and pay tribute to this fantastic dance! It was completely crazy, but Strictly does crazy in such a way it is brilliant and we love it. Combining all our celebrities, pro dancers and judges on the floor at the same time was a brilliant idea. The choreography once again could be followed along at home making us feel part of the show and extra special! What more could you ask for on a Saturday?

5. Susanna and Kevin’s Charleston (2013)

Kevin as a werewolf was worth paying the TV licence alone! Enough said. On a more serious note, this dance was pure brilliance. Kevin’s choreography was challenging and Susanna performed it amazingly. Even though she managed to get away with not wearing a Halloween disguise we loved it. It was so expressive, so much fun and pure exuberance which only Strictly can do.

4. Strictly Professionals Routine to Toxic (2012)

Imagine being transported to a Halloween Masquerade Ball and this is what you get, a powerful dance with amazing costumes! We love a good bit of Britney, so whoever choreographed this dance gets extra brownie points from us! We loved it and it features all our favourite professional dancers!

3. Harry and Aliona’s Tango (2011)

What do you get when you give a drummer a pair of fangs and some amazing choreography? A vampire tango! We loved this dance and Aliona’s choreography played to Harry’s strengths. The dance was rhythmical, sharp and expertly performed. We loved the maskography and for us it’s in our top 3 routines.

2. Patrick and Anya’s Quickstep (2013)

Being in the dance-off brought this celebrity to life and his Halloween quickstep opened up last year’s show with a bang. Anya’s choreography was intense and Patrick danced the steps perfectly. For us, it was our favourite dance of last year’s Halloween show, followed closely by the werewolf Charleston.

1. Louis and Flavia’s Zombie Tango (2012)

For us nothing says Halloween better than this dance. A graveyard Tango full of delights. Flavia choreographed an impressive Tango routine which Louis performed perfectly (whilst being a zombie!) The dance had plenty of attack and we loved it. It is our all-time favourite Halloween performance!

Now you’ve heard our top ten, we’d love to hear what your favourite routines are. Comment below or tweet us @scd_support. We look forward to hearing from you!

Wednesday Warm-Up – It may be Halloween soon, but there are no tricks here, only treats!

Halloween is creeping up on us and with the Strictly Halloween Special this weekend, we’re extra excited!

On Wednesdays, those of you who are new to our blog may not know, we like to show you a dance from the Strictly Archives which relieves your hump day blues.

Today, we thought we’d mix things up and treat you to not just one dance, but two dances. Yes, it’s time for our Halloween Dance Duel, where we show you two amazing Charlestons from Halloween which really captured what Strictly is all about, and then we’ll ask you to choose your ultimate favourite of the two dances.

For the first of our dances today, we’re taking you back to see a spellbinding dance from Lisa Riley and Robin Windsor. Although not technically perfect, the characterisation and entertainment value in this dance were infectious and we really loved it. Robin playing the geek perfectly and was truly under Lisa’s spell.

For the second of our dances we took you on a trip to the pictures to see a creepily captivating Charleston from Susanna Reid and Kevin (the werewolf from Grimsby) Clifton. This dance can only be described in several words, fab-u-lous, fun, a-may-zing, expressive and well words can’t describe Kevin dressed up as a werewolf. We loved this dance and it was one of our favourite ever Halloween performances.

Both these dances are truly amazing, but in true Strictly Support Group style, we know there’s only one way to pick the ultimate winner, and that’s with a poll! Just vote in this poll below to pick your favourite of the two dances and we’ll reveal it after 8pm tonight.

Get voting!

We’d love to hear what you thought of both these Charlestons. Comment in the box below to let us know.

Have a great day!

Monday Memories – A dance especially for the beautiful @serenepingu

Today, my beautiful best friend Serene starts a new job. She didn’t want any fuss to be made of her, but being her best friend I couldn’t resist, so have chosen to dedicate our Monday memory to her.

I did some sneaky detective work (well I asked her boyfriend) and found out that her favourite dance was Susanna and Kevin’s showdance from last year’s final. If you haven’t already seen it where have you been for the last year? it’ll make you smile, cry, need a hug and want to give this pair a standing ovation. The dance was beautifully choreographed by Kevin to suit Susanna’s strengths (she did look beautiful in ballroom.) The neck spin lift was out of this world and we were slightly relieved that Susanna didn’t hit Craig Revel Horwood. Susanna’s dress was beautiful too.

I know Serene loved this dance and it will help her relax on her first day at her new job. You will be a-may-zing Serene! Here is your favourite dance, Susanna and Kevin’s showdance. Hope it makes you smile (and not cry, because if it does, I’ll give you a paso face!)

If you have a big event coming up and would like us to dedicate a dance to you, DM us @scd_support. We’d love to hear from you. We’re off to a relaxing Spa break for a couple of days, but don’t panic! @strictlylucy2 has kindly agreed to cover our It Takes Two chats. I’ll be back on Thursday for an It Takes Two chat and quiz.

Have a wonderful day all!

Throwback Thursday – A Whimsical, Wonderful Waltz for you all

For today’s Throwback Thursday, we’re going back to Strictly 2013 to watch a whimsical, wonderful waltz with more pivot turns than a Waltzer Ride at the fairground. Yes, we’re off to see Susanna and Kevin’s amazing spinny Waltz.

You may need to close your eyes, as the section of pivot turns was so fast it made us dizzy. You may also need tissues as this dance comes with a warning; it may cause leaky eyes because of its beauty and emotion! This dance was beautifully choreographed, danced and performed, and in our opinion honestly deserved 4 10s from the judges (we’re not sure where their 10 paddles had got to that evening!) As it’s GCSE results day, if we were marking them we’d give them both an A*.

Susanna looked like a princess in her dress which glinted, swished and floated around the ballroom. Darcey and Craig both commented on the night how she brought the dress to life, and Len commented that as a couple they both lit up the ballroom. The dancing was spectacular and proved them as a force to be reckoned with!

We loved this dance and could watch it over and over again, keeping Kleenex in business. We hope you’ll enjoy watching it too. Here are Susanna and Kevin with their wonderfully gorgeous Waltz. Enjoy!

We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. Tweet us @scd_support or comment in the box below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Throwback Thursday – A Dance of Sentimental Value To Both Me and My Husband

I promise, although I’m pregnant right now, I’m going to hold back the tears and try to write this blog post without blubbing like a baby. This is a task in itself for me. If you follow me on my personal twitter (@cassiopoeia85,) you will have noticed I have a habit of reaching out for Kleenex frequently, especially when TV (including Strictly) makes my eyes go all leaky. *inserts example here*

Today’s dance was one of those moments.

On Saturday, it’ll be mine and my husband’s 6th Wedding Anniversary. We’ll be celebrating by renewing our vows at the very same place we got married in front of family and friends. You may be wondering, what does Strictly have to do with renewing your vows? Well, when we got married, our first dance together was to Annie’s Song, by John Denver. Last year when we saw Susanna and Kevin dance their Viennese Waltz to this song in Week 3, it not only made me weep, but made my alpha-male, sports-mad husband go teary-eyed too, bringing back many happy memories of that day.

In 2 days time, we’ll walk down the aisle again to this song, and it’ll no doubt remind us of our happy day 6 years ago. It will also remind us of this Strictly Routine, and the fabulous group routine we saw on the Tour in February.

We loved this dance, not just because of the music, but because Susanna looked graceful and elegant like a swan. The whole feel of the dance was understated and simple whilst being sophisticated and glamourous, just like an old Hollywood Movie. Although Viennese Waltzes can be quite boring, Kevin’s choreography was exciting and had lots of beautifully romantic moments which tugged at our heartstrings and made us get ever so slightly emotional and reach for the Kleenex. *sobs*

Overall it was an amazing performance, which we loved and voted for lots and lots. Here it is just for your Throwback Thursday fix, Susanna and Kevin’s sensational Viennese Waltz. We hope you enjoy it:

We’d love to hear what you thought of that dance. Tweet us @scd_support or comment below. We look forward to hearing from you. We’re off on the hunt for some Glow in the Dark balloons and to do some final ceremony preparations but will be here tonight from 7pm for a chat and quiz. Hope you can join us then.

Kevin and Karen From Grimsby – A Review by @chachadilton

We were a little gutted hearing that the phenomenal Flashmob tour had been cancelled, however when we heard Kevin and Karen from Grimsby were doing a one-off show in Grimsby it made us smile! Although we were unable to go, the lovely @chachadilton was there and agreed to review the show for us. Here are his thoughts:

An Evening with Karen and Kevin from Grimsby
12 July 2014
Grimsby Auditorium

After the excellent Flashmob run at the Peacock Theatre in London, it was a huge disappointment to receive the news of the cancellation of many of the UK tour dates.

This has enabled a spectacular one off show of talent to raise from its ashes. It has taken a fortnight to deliver a show of incredible quality with the very hard working Keith and Judy Clifton (Kevin’s parents) behind the scenes. An amazing feat may thought impossible with the challenging timescale.

The show started with a very funny exchange of words between Kevin and Karen before the curtain was raised. Pure genius as it had the audience engaged right from the start.

The stars of the show open with a very rhythmic samba, Karen’s yellow samba dress accentuating the fabulous movement characterised in this Brazilian dance. This was followed by an expertly performed Irish dance fusion from Brosena. Tom and Erin are always a delight to watch.

Strictly 2013 winning professional dancer Aljaz and his partner Janette performed a modern paso doble. This was a masterful performance and Janette danced in a spectacular dress (one of her mother’s creations). Following this was the first dance from contemporary dancers Alleviate. A fantastic story of role reversal to the song ‘If I was a boy’.

Now for something very different. A troupe of young freestyle dancers perform several routines during the show. They demonstrate admirably the high tempo dance style. Very impressive and as they are local had a fabulous amount of support from the audience.

Kevin and Karen do an incredible hip rotating smouldering cha cha cha routine, followed by Alleviate performing a very touching routine. Aljaz and Janette then demonstrate their mastery of the rumba, Janette’s favourite style.

One of the highlights of the show, Kevin dancing with his sister Joanne Clifton (new strictly pro dancer and world champion ballroom dancer) dancing a highly amusing quickstep. We are in for a spectacular Strictly 2014, Joanne was rather good at ballroom. This was followed by another special moment, Aljaz and Janette dancing an American Smooth to ‘Forever Young’, their first dance together on Strictly.

Another fabulous demonstration of freestyle was followed by my joint favourite choreography in the show, Smooth Criminal. Kevin starts the piece solo, soon to be joined by the sizzling Karen in a stunning green dress. This was one dance every Strictly fan needs to see, it was exceptional. Brosena follow with an Irish and classical fusion dance, very well performed.

Kevin wanders on stage adorned head to foot in that incredible matador outfit and announces the star guest, Susanna Reid. This was a huge surprise. They perform a very impressive Paso Doble straight from Strictly Blackpool. This deserved the standing ovation from the receptive Grimsby audience.

Interval, chance to grab a glass of bubbly.

Aljjaz and Janette start the second half with a sensational cha cha cha. This was my favourite performance from them. Top class.

A large focus of this show was Grimsby and given then chance to perform with Kevin, Joanne and Karen are Helen, Steve and Mark. These lucky people are winners from a local newspaper competition and all three perform the most fantastic routines for a couple hours of rehearsal. Susanna comperes this section of the show and judges Aljaz and Janette are very good, watch out Len! With a mix of judges scores and audience cheers Joanne and Steve from Grimsby are awarded the glitter fish. This presentation was incredibly funny but Steve and Joanne we seriously good in their tango.

Alleviate perform their excellent routine with a very touching story following a tragic death. Must admit it brings a tear to my eye. This was followed by Karen and Kevin’s Paso Doble. Now, this was my other joint favourite routine. Incredible routine performed to Roxanne. The best exhibition of this style I have witnessed. Outstanding.

Aljaz and Janette return for a stunning tango, followed by Karen and Kevin’s contemporary rumba. Another tear jerker. Brosena demonstrate another fabulous routine and then all dancers come back on stage for a very well deserved standing ovation. Very moving to see this talent being fully appreciated.

One very lovely touch was the opportunity to meet the stars, have a programme signed and photos taken with them. A great finish to a phenomenal show. This one off was a great concept and very well received. Kevin and Karen’s witty and emotive personalities shine throughout the show. It will be remembered for a very long time.

@chachadilton

Sounds like an unforgettable evening, just like Flashmob! It’s got us extremely excited about Strictly 2014. Thank you @chachadilton for reviewing the show!

Serene 😊
